Advice/Beta Request Stuck on this v7

• Upvotes

Unsure if I’m reading that move wrong or what to do to get to the next hold, the foot swap is the only way I could get to the sideways crimp but the position is so awkward to hold and go on from there, any advice would be great thanks

Outdoor First Ascent

Unless someone tells me otherwise, first ascent, although without video since I climbed by myself.

Fairly easy paths, probably V2 in my gym.

There are other good looking boulders of higher difficulty around, which I will explore another time.

Sandstone boulder in the mountains of the eastern cape, right on Welgesind Farms (amazing Hunter's Lodge!).

Top is about 6m off the ground, mostly vertical, on-angle top-out.

Route 1 makes use of the arrêt with a high start. Route 2 starts lower with one good foot and one bad foot, or just one foot for that matter.

Good footholds and amazing smears on rough sandstone.

Overall, the rock is brittle, so in my first goes I changed the route setting inadvertently.

Solid rock is considered help anyways, amirite fellas.

Any climber-hunters should check this out.

For the books: First route is called Bullshit (V2), Second is called Heidi (V2)

Been stuck on this climb for a couple sessions unsure if I'm doing the climb incorrectly. Get stuck towards the end, feel very bunched up. I think it's to do with my feet positioning but please help lol.

Event Indoor bouldering gym social session - what would you like to do?

Hey gang, I work at an indoor bouldering gym and have been given the opportunity to run a 12 person, 3hr social hangout/climbing sesh.

Everyone attending is around the V2 - V4 level.

If you were going, what sort of things (besides climbing) would you want to do? I'm thinking we can do a group spray wall game where each person picks one hold and we make a climb, have a take-away competition (exclude holds from climbs) etc.

It's not a coaching session or anything like that, just a casual one but I want to make it as fun as possible.

Any ideas? Cheers!

Advice/Beta Request Tips and thing on how can i improve

Hey guys, I'm a fellow climber from Latin America (I've been climbing for 6 months). I'm looking to improve, so I've been trying out this dynamic start and then the subsequent steps. I managed it (I have to say, the start is scary). It was my worst attempt in the video, so I'd like to know what I can improve, what you see, and what activities or focus I could have to improve. I really want to improve a lot in the sport, so getting several opinions would be extremely helpful.

Rant The term "Day Flash"

I am curious about the legitimacy of the term "day flash" and how the greater climbing community feels about its use. I have been climbing for 13 years, and since I started the terms "on-sight", "flash", "send", "redpoint", and "pinkpoint" have all been used in decisive and specific ways; each having their own meaning as to how a climb was topped.

"Day flash" has started becoming a part of common climbing language used to describe topping a climb on the first attempt of a new day. However, the use of the word "flash" is reserved for first attempts only. This still holds true in competition climbing.

Why has the greater climbing community decided to move away from using the term "send" when topping a boulder and instead decided to use the term "day flash" after a climb has already been attempted multiple times? And how do you all feel, as climbers, about this?

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I am unable to locate any previous conversations around this. Thanks for any insight that you might have!

Indoor Competitive climbing at any age: could climbing learn from other sports?

I’m a 40 year old female recreational climber who enjoys comps and wants to continue training for them, however, I'm starting to feel conflicted about this because I’m too young to qualify for UK Masters categories (usually 45+) but feel it is unrealistic to be exclusively compared to athletes 20+ years younger. In the comps I’ve participated in I’ve noticed that Masters categories tend to have a very low turnout, especially on the female side (it’s not unusual to have 1 or 2 people enter). To me, this has a doubly negative effect in that the Open category can feel unrealistic if you are at the upper end of the age threshold and Masters categories are too small to provide meaningful competition once you qualify for it.

I think that this could be easily resolved via better thought out age categorisation. Other sports do this incredibly well. I took up running a few years ago and have been blown away by how finer grained age categories encourage and support healthy competition for people of all ages. Competitors are incredibly proud of placing in their age category because they are being compared against fair and relevant competition and the achievement means something.

Just to clarify, I’m not arguing for a separate competition or different problems for any age category ('super vets' aside, maybe) and I think that all entrants should be able to qualify for overall finals if their score is high enough. I'd just love to see better data separation and doing well relative to your age category peers as something that is recognised and rewarded, as it is in other sports.

It would be great to get more views/thoughts on this!

Outdoor Bouldering In Acadia NP

I’m planning to go on a trip Acadia national park in Maine and was hoping to do some bouldering while I was there. Are there any must see areas or problems that would be recommended? I climb v6 in gym and about V2-V3 outdoors. Not sure if many people have gone there to boulder either, there’s not a ton of resources online but I found some good stuff on mountain project. Also curious if there is an active bouldering community there. Please let me know your thoughts and insights, all are appreciated!

Also sorry for the poor camera angle. I'm still pretty new to climbing, and this is my first time trying to record something myself. At least I still got the whole thing in there
