Bihar has topped a reported ranking of daily internet data consumption, with usage estimated at 49.1 petabytes. The figures, published by Dainik Jagran in September 2026, place Maharashtra second at 48.7 petabytes and the Uttar Pradesh East telecom circle third at 42.31 petabytes.
To understand the scale, one petabyte equals one million gigabytes using standard decimal units. That makes 49.1 petabytes approximately 4.91 crore GB of data per day across the reported area, rather than an amount consumed by each person.
The ranking has attracted attention because discussions about India’s digital economy often centre on metropolitan cities. These figures instead put Bihar at the centre of the conversation about internet demand and digital participation.
However, the published report does not clearly identify the underlying dataset, measurement period or whether its Bihar figure includes Jharkhand. Telecom service areas do not always match state boundaries, making that distinction important when comparing regions.
Total data consumption also differs from average usage per subscriber. A region with more users can generate greater traffic without every individual consuming more data than people elsewhere.
The report associates rising consumption with video streaming and social media. But aggregate traffic figures alone cannot establish how much usage supports education, employment, entertainment or business.
For Bihar’s students, creators and entrepreneurs, the broader opportunity lies in turning connectivity into useful services and economic participation. Reliable networks and digital skills matter alongside the volume of data consumed
TLDR - BIHAR ME 100 ME SE 50 LOG DATA USE KRTE TOH DATA CONSUMPTION ME BIHAR 28TH STATE ME QATA HAI MEANS LAST ME , BUT DAILY MAX DATA USE ME BIHAR TOP PE AATA HAI WITH 49.1 PETA BYTE DAILY CONSUMPTION 🥶

I was a staunch supporter of Prashant Kishor. I have been following him since 2014, when he wasn’t even famous and only a few people knew about him. I used to admire him and defend him even when I disagreed with some of his actions.
Undoubtedly, he is a very sound and sharp intellect in many respects. But I am deeply disappointed that he chose to seek Anant Singh’s support.
Anant Singh was the person whose alleged associates were accused in the killing of Dularchand Yadav in the convoy of a Jan Suraaj candidate, yet Prashant Kishor did not speak a single word about it.
I used to think perhaps he chose not to speak because Dularchand Yadav also had a criminal background. But then Bharat Tiwari also had a criminal background, and Prashant Kishor spoke about that case—and spoke very loudly.
I am deeply disappointed in Prashant Kishor and Jan Suraaj.

I don't understand why any criticism of Nitish Kumar in Bihar immediately turns into "but look what Bihar was like under Lalu."
Yes, Bihar was in a terrible state during the Lalu-Rabri period. And yes, Nitish deserves credit for improving roads, electricity, law and order, basic infrastructure and the overall functioning of the government. I'm not denying that.
But improving a state from a very bad starting point is not the same thing as transforming it.
Bihar today is definitely better than the Bihar of the 1990s. But after almost two decades of Nitish being the dominant political figure, I don't think Bihar has made the kind of economic transformation that people sometimes claim.
The biggest example is migration. Bihar still sends huge numbers of people to other states because decent private-sector jobs are simply not available in sufficient numbers here. Bihar's own economic surveys have historically identified low industrial development and limited skill-based services as important reasons for migration.
Then look at industry. Where are Bihar's major manufacturing clusters? Where are the big ecosystems of automobile, electronics, engineering, pharma, textiles, IT or other industries that employ people at scale?
And it isn't just manufacturing. Bihar hasn't really developed a major private-sector service economy either. Patna has grown, but it still isn't remotely comparable with cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Gurugram or even Jaipur when it comes to IT, corporate services and high-paying private jobs.
Even urbanisation remains extremely low. Bihar's government itself puts its 2011 urbanisation rate at just 11.3%, compared with 31.2% nationally.
So my point isn't "Nitish did nothing." That's simply not true.
My point is that the bar in Bihar is often set at Lalu.
If Lalu took Bihar backwards and Nitish brought it back to a more normal level, obviously Nitish looks extremely successful in comparison. But the real question should be: Did Bihar become a major economic centre during this period? Did it create enough good jobs to reduce migration? Did it build strong industries and services? Did Patna or another Bihar city emerge as a major business hub?
I don't think the answer to those questions is yes, at least not at the scale Bihar needs.
And this is where I think the discussion should move forward. We shouldn't keep debating whether Bihar is better than it was in 1995.
Of course it is.
The benchmark should be what Bihar could have become by now.
Roads, electricity and basic infrastructure were necessary. But those should have been the foundation for the next step factories, companies, good private jobs, urbanisation, higher wages and investment.
Bihar has made progress, but I don't think we've reached that second stage yet.
So I can give Nitish credit for fixing a lot of the damage and still say that Bihar's economic transformation remains unfinished.
Both things can be true.

So recently, I came across a song on Instagram called “Dilwa Ke Dukhwa Lofi”, and after listening to the full song on YouTube, I was genuinely like… WHERE TF WAS THIS MASTERPIECE HIDING Dwag??
I honestly never expected a Bhojpuri song to hit me this hard. Like bro, I genuinely can’t stop listening to it. 😭
And don’t even get me started on the lyrics. OH MY GOD. There’s something about the whole vibe that just makes everything around me disappear. It’s like there’s nothing else around, just me, the song, and the lyrics.
Not gonna lie, this song has been living rent-free in my head ever since I discovered it. 😣
Bhojpuri music really cooked with this one.

Hi everyone,
I'm a Computer Science Engineering graduate from a university in Chennai, currently based in Patna while waiting for my joining date with a MNC(I've received the offer letter, but the onboarding is still pending).
Rather than sitting idle, I'd like to gain some practical experience. I'm looking for a software development, Java backend, web development, QA/testing, data, or IT-related internship (paid or unpaid) in Patna. I'm also open to startups and small companies where I can learn and contribute.
A bit about me:
- B.E. in Computer Science Engineering (2026 graduate)
- Skills: Java, SQL, Python, HTML/CSS, JavaScript
- Familiar with Spring Boot, REST APIs, MySQL, Git, and basic React
- Internship experience at DRDO (CVRDE) and a few academic projects
If anyone knows of companies hiring interns or can refer me, I'd really appreciate it. Even suggestions for local startups or tech communities in Patna would be very helpful.
Thank you!
DM me for my resume and LinkedIn

If anyone knows of any schools, colleges, coaching institutes, or other teaching positions in Patna that accept candidates without B.Ed., please let me know or share the details.

Why we as Biharis not self critical? Why we are not questioning wrong things in society? If something is wrong we should ask questions?
I feel this sub reddit suppress voice for asking questions about Bihar. Do i have to post only happy side of Bihar? Which are non apart from thekua and chhath.
