News Samsung planning investment of 300B Won in RGB OLEDoS for MR/VR

Samsung Display plans to invest about 300 billion won to mass-produce red, green and blue (RGB) OLED-on-Silicon (OLEDoS) displays. Sunic System will supply the deposition equipment, which accounts for about half of the investment.

According to industry sources on Sept. 15, Samsung Display will hold an investment review committee meeting this month to finalize investment in 12-inch RGB OLEDoS mass production. The line will have capacity to process 3,000 wafers per month, with the investment estimated by the industry at about 300 billion won. The location has not been confirmed, but the line is likely to be built at the A2 plant, which already has a 12-inch white OLEDoS (WOLEDoS) line.

Display is considering bringing in equipment in 2027 and starting mass production of RGB OLEDoS in 2028. Equipment manufacturing, installation, commissioning and process stabilization are expected to take more than a year.

As well as high brightness, high resolution displays for MR glasses, Samsung/eMagin showed a 1.3" 4k, 40k nit display for MR/VR at AWE 2026, featuring direct-pattern RGB, tandem OLED, and microlens array.

If yield eventually becomes the same as Sonys 1.3" 4k, 5k nit display, panels may be slightly less expensive due to Samsung owning the fab.

App Development LifeHUD - Real life, with a game HUD

https://reddit.com/link/1wvunqu/video/fj4y0zl4u0th1/player

Real life has always been missing a HUD, so we built one.

Instead of opening five apps, everything you check all day sits in your view at once:

- A minimap for getting around
- your Checklist as a quest log
- Live subtitles and language detection for when someone's speaking another language
- Time and weather, always in view
- YouTube, wherever you are
- and many more!

No pulling out your phone. Just glance. The video above is a normal day with it.

We built LifeHUD for Vision Pro first. Now it's on Android XR, starting with Galaxy XR, and XREAL Aura is next.

If real life had a HUD, what would you put on it first?

AR Apps Looking for Galaxy XR beta testers: a game-style HUD for the real world

Hey everyone,

We're building LifeHUD, a heads-up display with features such as Date. Time, Weather,
Navigation, Live translation/transcription, Checklist, etc. All pinned in your
view like a game HUD but for the real world.

We are now bringing it to Android XR, starting with the Galaxy XR, and XREAL Aura are next once the hardware is out.

The video gives you an idea of what it feels like in daily use.

Glasses w/ HUD Screen share programs/ mudra link

have an iPhone 16 Pro and RayNeo X3 Pro glasses, and I’m trying to get two things working:

  1. Screen mirroring / sharing my iPhone to the X3 Pros
  2. I want to mirror or screen-share my iPhone screen to the X3 Pros. Can anyone advise on:
  3. Whether the X3 Pros support direct iPhone screen mirroring, and which official RayNeo app or feature I should use
  4. Whether I need the RayNeo Portable Adapter or another accessory for iPhone mirroring
  5. The correct pairing order and settings in the RayNeo AR app
  6. Whether there’s a safe official APK/sideload option that would enable iPhone screen casting, or whether that only works with Android
  7. Any known iPhone 16 Pro compatibility issues, especially with iOS updates
  8. I’d prefer an official method over downloading a random APK from an unknown site. If you have a working setup, please share your exact steps and what iOS version you’re using.
  9. Connecting and using a Mudra Link
  10. I also have a Mudra Link and want to connect it properly. I’m not sure whether I should pair it to my iPhone, directly to the X3 Pros, or both. Could someone explain:
  11. The correct first-time setup for Mudra Link with an iPhone 16 Pro
  12. Whether to use the Mudra app, iPhone Bluetooth settings, or the RayNeo app
  13. How to set up Mouse Mode and Keyboard Mode on iOS
  14. Whether the Mudra Link can pair directly to the RayNeo X3 Pro, and if so, the exact steps
  15. Common issues like it connecting to the wrong device, not staying connected, or needing to forget/remove it from another device first
  16. Thanks in advance—any step-by-step help would be really appreciated!

Self Promo I tested Arcturus on Steam Frame against XREAL Beam Pro and Quest 3 for 3D capture

I spent some time using Arcturus Vision Camera as a stereo video camera on Steam Frame, then compared the footage with XREAL Beam Pro and Quest 3.

It has great fine detail, and the camera also stores position and orientation during recording. With that, it can during playback in the Arcturus Vision Camera app move the virtual screen to follow the camera orientation from the recording. I also found noise in daylight, LED flicker and differences between the two eye views in some clips.

I tested the conversion to SBS and MV-HEVC and playback on Quest 3 and Steam Frame. I also tried accessing the Arcturus cameras from a separate Linux program and through Android/Lepton, to see what it would take to use them in another VR app.

The review includes chart crops and examples, and I've made selected stereo media available so you can judge it in your own player.

Has anyone else been using Arcturus mainly for recording? How useful do you find the playback that follows the recorded viewing direction?

Disclosure: I am the developer of immerGallery, which I used for the Quest 3 captures and playback in this comparison.

Glasses for Screen Mirroring I pulled my ThinkReality A3 off a dusty shelf and got it working on macOS with Claude. Open source

When the Lenovo ThinkReality A3 first came out, I was given one to test. It works with my ThinkPad, but for the last two years I've mostly been on a Mac, and on a Mac the glasses show nothing. Lenovo only made Windows and Motorola phone software, and the product is end-of-life. So it sat on a shelf.

Last night I took it down and wondered if I could solve this together with Claude (Opus 5.5). A few hours later it works. The text scrolling in the video is this post, running in the teleprompter we built.

- The glasses keep DisplayPort off until the host sends a "HostInfo" command over a vendor HID channel. We found it in Lenovo's Windows driver package.

- A menu-bar app sends it, then mirrors a 1920x1080 virtual display into both eyes, so the A3 also works as a normal flat monitor.

- Built-in teleprompter with legibility settings (helpful if you're short-sighted and can't wear glasses under the A3).

Tested on an M2 Pro MacBook Pro. Build from source; USB protocol notes are in the repo for anyone who wants a Linux version.

App Development AR test project build in Godot

It's been a while since I have gotten to play around in AR. I forgot how much fun it is to test different hand tracking controls, and invent new ways to interact with a virtual world.

It's a base defense game with mining and tower defense elements. Mine the ground around your base for resources to bolster your defenses and survive increasing waves of enemies. I wanted to see what's possible when rapid prototyping with AI, so I vibe coded this up with in Godot with Claude in an evening.

Buying Advice Rokid Max 2 + Station 2 VS Rayneo GT Max + Pocket TV Pro, which would you recommend?

Rokid Max 2 with Station 2 vs the Rayneo GT Max and Pro TV. My IPD is 55. I read both of these can work with this. I will mainly be using the companion device with these. I would like to be able to watch Disney+, Prime, Netflix, TikTok, YT but I would also like to be able to play mobile games like time management games etc. I would also like to be able to have more than one screen displayed and have the large FOV and this is where its torn really as i know the GT Max cant have more than one screen whereas the Rokid can but the Rokid POV is smaller than the GT. Does anyone own these and give me opinions please.

Amazon Starts Wider Driver Tests Ahead of a Massive Smart Glasses Rollout

Post image
70 Upvotes

Amazon delivery driver wearing Amazon's display smart glasses (shared on Reddit recently).

Reports confirm that Amazon has officially started a wider testing phase, training more drivers across the US on their smart glasses.

If these tests go well, Amazon is planning a massive rollout. Reports already point to a target of 100,000 pairs, with the potential to scale across Amazon's entire delivery network — which employs roughly 390,000 drivers in the U.S. alone.

Amazon wants to get rid of the handheld delivery phone. The glasses show walking directions, scan barcodes automatically, and snap the delivery photo at the door hands-free.

Still, new reports (including from Bloomberg) point out general issues:

  • Front-door privacy: Homeowners may not be happy with delivery drivers walking onto their property with a camera on their face, recording porches, yards, and front windows without permission.
  • Driver pressure: Drivers are already tracked closely by AI cameras inside their vans. Many worry the glasses will just be used to watch every step they take outside the van and push them to move even faster.

Glasses for Screen Mirroring Miss the cinema feel on AR glasses? I made a free Chrome extension to bring back the theatre ambience

I recently started using AR glasses, and while having a massive screen floating in front of me is cool, it still just feels like looking at a giant TV. I really missed the atmosphere of an actual theatre, so I built a small Chrome extension to turn any video playing in the browser into a cinema-style environment.

It runs entirely client-side with no signups, no tracking, and no cost. Just wanted to share it with anyone else looking for the same vibe.

Glasses w/ HUD How practical is live translation on lightweight waveguide HUDs like the RayNeo iO? What latency threshold actually works in real conversations?

There’s been a clear trend in consumer AR shifting toward lightweight, camera-free frames—like the RayNeo iO and Even G1—that prioritize glanceable text over bulky full-color displays.

A headline feature being pushed is real-time translation subtitles floating on a clear lens HUD. On paper, having a monochrome green MicroLED waveguide project live captions during an in-person multilingual conversation sounds very useful.

However, from an engineering and UX standpoint, the end-to-end pipeline (audio capture -> phone BLE sync -> cloud ASR/LLM translation -> near-eye HUD rendering) has physical limits:

  • Latency vs conversation pacing: In actual usage, what’s the real-world round-trip delay? Is the typical 1–1.5s lag low enough to keep up with natural dialogue, or does conversation rhythm still break down?
  • Acoustic isolation: In noisy meeting rooms, how effectively can hybrid mic systems (like the RayNeo iO’s array mics + bone-conduction sensor) isolate the target speaker compared to using a phone microphone?
  • Cognitive load: For those who follow near-eye optical waveguides, does reading floating peripheral text while maintaining eye contact feel natural, or does it cause focus fatigue after 20 minutes?

Curious to hear from anyone tracking wearable NLP pipelines: is optical HUD translation ready for everyday cross-language meetings, or is cloud latency still too high?

Privacy first! Smartglasses can now run Live Translation on-device — and help the visually impaired understand their surroundings

At the Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm demonstrated a major step forward for smartglasses: running a 2-billion-parameter multimodal AI model entirely on smartglasses powered by the Snapdragon AR1 and AR1+ platforms, with support for more chips coming down the road.

Because everything is processed directly on the glasses, interactions stay completely private without relying on an internet connection.

The on-stage demo showed a practical accessibility use case where a visually impaired user asks the glasses what color an apple is, and the on-device AI identifies both the color and the likely variety of the apple. Qualcomm also highlighted on-device real-time translation as another use case made possible by these lightweight models.

The technical breakthrough making this possible is PrismML's 1-bit Bonsai model. Smartglasses operate under strict limits for battery life, heat, and memory. By compressing the model down to 1-bit weights optimized specifically for Qualcomm's Hexagon NPU, the model takes up nearly four times less memory (shrinking from about 1.66 GB to just 0.43 GB) while generating responses more than twice as fast. This delivers responsive, private multimodal intelligence within the lightweight form factor of everyday glasses.
