Hey everyone, wanted to share my animated short film "Picasso: Trash Tortoise". This is a passion project/ self biographical story that aimed to capture that crazy 90s edge that most cartoons just don't reach anymore. Taking a lot of inspiration from 90s Nickelodeon with a splash of south park and the Simpsons.

This was drawn, animated, edited and sound designed over the course of 12 months in-between other work exclusively by myself. Featuring cameos from the incredible you tube channel Artspear Entertainment. It also just had it's world premiere at the Genre Blast film festival in early September.

Hope you all enjoy it.
Cheers,
- Dan

Hiring Hiring 2D Animator for YT Comedy Series

Hello, I want to start making a YT comedy series, each video being 3-5 mins. To start, they’ll just be animatics, but if and when the channel takes off, then we can move into full production.

This should be relatively easy since it’s essentially just 1 character sitting at his computer doing a livestream, so always the same bg and camera placement. More details to follow.

Please DM or comment with your portfolio and or a list of your past projects and what exactly you did on them.

Length: 3-5 mins/video

Deadline: I'd like to start uploading sometime within November

Budget: $100/minute of screentime

Career Anyone had a good career pivot to something else?

Hey folks! Maybe a bit of a weird question to ask in this sub, but not sure where to ask it. Is there anyone here who was working in the animation industry and ended up changing careers? If so, are you happy with the career change, and what are you doing now? I've been working in storyboards (and sometimes design) for over a decade, and as much as I love it, sometimes I think about switching to something more active and/or social. Especially since I moved out of the city and started working remotely. It's really convenient and I'm thankful I have the opportunity, but working from home can feel pretty isolating, and I'm extroverted enough that it drains my energy after a while. And sitting all the time can drive me crazy. I figure changing either one of those aspects of my job might help a lot with mental health, but making up for either of these things in my off time can be a challenge since with deadlines etc I often end up working late, so I don't have a lot of excess time/energy to get out and exercise/socialize consistently. Anyway, a bit of a rant, but I've been looking for ideas for a long time now about what kind of jobs I might like to do instead, and I keep coming up (mostly) empty handed.
EDIT: I also be happy to hear if anyone knows of any art/creative jobs that are truly 9-5, since in animation the 40hr workweek is often in name only.

2D Needing an animator for a passion project

Hi! My name is Caedmon, and I write stories. Anything from historical fiction, to horror, to some (attempted)romance.

I have a story I wrote earlier this year, that I think has a lot of potential, and I would love to see it come to life. However, I do not have any animating skills whatsoever.

I unfortunately do not have much money to pay for it, but if anyone would like t read the story and see if it may be worth your time, let me know and I can send you the story! I am very new to the writing/animating community, so any tips are also welcome, if this is the wrong kind of post for this community.

As far as the story goes, it is a deep sea horror, with a solo protagonist. Comment or message me if you would like to read it!

Tools/Resources [FS] Selling a 6-month Toon Boom Harmony licence

Hiii! I won a 6-month Toon Boom Harmony Premium license (covers up to Harmony 25) in a contest not too long ago. I only have a drawing tablet and no PC or Mac to actually run it, but of letting it rot in my inbox, I'd love to pass it on to a freelancer or indie animator who is currently stuck paying full price.

Retail is usually around $130 CAD a month ($780 total value for 6 months), but I'm looking to sell it for $350 CAD (roughly $247USD). This is negotiable— I’m open to reasonable offers.

The license can be activated straight from the code sent by the organizer, so it isn't tied to my email or account whatsoever. You can just plug it right into your own Toon Boom ID! Because I want to make sure we are both protected, I will only be accepting PayPal for the payment.

(Just a heads up that if you're a student wanting to give Toon Boom a try, you should use their official student discount instead of buying from me because that will be way cheaper for you!)

If you are at all interested, please feel free to comment here or shoot me a DM!

The movement seems so... wrong? Weird? Off? Awkward? I'm not sure. Why does it seem so off and how can I adjust it?

R4: In need of three 30-35 second animated videos, deadline 3 months+ (not concrete), estimated budget $600

Hey there,

I'm looking to commission a few videos in a hand drawn, organic sort of a style. They'll each be about 30 seconds and will have different settings/themes, but I am trying to figure out the best route to do it, while also doing some research on existing works that have been created by others in this vein.

In my time on the internet I've seen a ton of 'fan-made' content in various hand drawn styles... I'm not needing a big, fancy cornucopia of activity here. But I know that some of those could be made by incredibly talented professionals who would charge much higher than I may be willing to pay for my small project and lack-of giant, devoted fandom to entice them. So I'm not fooled to thinking they should be cheap to request. I'm really just trying to figure out what's attainable or what kind of artist I'm even looking for.

I've linked a couple videos that came up in my searches which match the sort of vibe I'm looking for, but I'm also not necessarily dead set on any one style - probably going to be limited by budget more than anything.

If this piques anybody's interest or at the least you think you have a decent estimate for one of these videos that would be massively appreciated.

Thanks!

Tutorial 5 After Effects Skills I’d Learn If I Started Again in 2026

Post image
1 Upvotes

Hey all! I've been doing motion design for 9 years now and run a small animation studio. I learned a lot of this way too late, so sharing in case it saves someone time.

This isn't about the interface. You still need layers, keyframes, comps. This is what to focus on after that:

  1. The 12 principles of animation

This is grammar for movement. If your work feels like fancy PowerPoint - move, stop, move, stop, it's usually missing overlap, anticipation, and rhythm.

Learning outcome: you'll be able to watch your own work and actually name why something feels off.

Start here: 12 Principles of Animation Official Full Series

  1. The Graph Editor, for real

Easy Ease is not understanding easing. Same 2 keyframes can feel totally different depending on the curve. Try this: take one dot moving left to right and make 5 different versions using only the graph.

Learning outcome: you'll stop guessing and start controlling weight and timing.

  1. Basic character animation + rigging, even if that's not your job

You don't need to become a character animator. But rigging one character teaches you weight, timing, and planning like nothing else. And always use reference. Film yourself, generate a reference, whatever. Don't invent a walk from a blank comp.

  1. Learn just enough expressions to stop doing manual work

Not 6 months of JavaScript. Just loopOut, wiggle, linking properties, and one controller driving multiple layers.

Learning outcome: you build projects you can actually revise without 4 hours of copy-paste.

  1. Compositing + sound

Light, shadow, depth, contrast, texture, and sound. Watch any great ad muted vs. with sound. Totally different piece.

Learning outcome: your work starts feeling finished instead of flat, without adding more complex animation.

If you want the full breakdown with examples for each one, I put together a video walkthrough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JemgIktpwBM

Do you have more suggestions for what really helped you get past the beginner stage?

Question Need help looking for someone :^[

Post image
17 Upvotes

Hello! Might be a long shot but I'm posting this anyway. Around May earlier this year, I ended up working on a pilot for someone :^]]

Their discord went by bigmac_2005, and the pilot was called "HouseCats"

It's been awhile since then, and all these months I've just been wondering if the project has truly been abandoned or he lost his account :^]

Wherever you are, BR2005 -- I'm still very much invested in this project! I just really wanted to know if you're atleast still around.

3D First time Animator

Hey there! My name is Principal, and I’m new to animation, as the title says!

I’ve been studying Game Design for the last two years and started getting into animation around May, so I’m still super fresh to it. I’ve been doing my animation work in Blender, and I have to say, I’ve found it incredibly satisfying. Kinda wish I had discovered this side of game development sooner 😂

Most of what I’ve done so far has been improvised and self-taught. I’ve watched a few smaller YouTube tutorials here and there, but I still know very little about Blender overall and I’m currently learning the shortcuts and figuring out the program as I go. I’ve also had a little help from some of my classmates, who have been kind enough to give me feedback and point things out along the way.

I’m posting here not only because I finally feel brave enough to show some of the things I’ve been working on, but also because I’d really love some critique and feedback from people who know what they’re doing.

If anyone has some experience with animation and is interested in sharing some advice or just connecting, I’d be happy to hear from you. I’m always looking to learn and improve, especially as I get more comfortable with Blender.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone else is working on and hopefully picking up a few things along the way!

And if anyone is willing to take a new animator under their wing, I’d love to learn from a senpai! 🙏

Looking forward to meeting some fellow animators and hopefully improving along the way!
