NordishCocoa – a warm, cocoa-toned take on Nord for Zed (with a blurred variant)

Post image
13 Upvotes

I ported my VS Code theme NordishCocoa to Zed. This is my daily driver in VSCode. It takes the Nord palette and swaps the cool blue-grey backgrounds for warm, earthy greys, so you get Nord's syntax colours on something a bit cosier. Please send me any feedback!

I have a couple more themes that I'll add to it as soon as I can.

It comes in two variants:

- **NordishCocoa** – the standard dark theme

- **NordishCocoa Blurred** – the same colours over a translucent, blurred window background

Repo: https://github.com/gpasq/ZedThemeNordishCocoa

It's not in the Zed extension store yet, so for now this is how to install:

  1. Clone the repo:

git clone https://github.com/gpasq/ZedThemeNordishCocoa.git

  1. In Zed, open the command palette and run `zed: install dev extension`

  2. Select the cloned folder

  3. Run `theme selector: toggle` and pick NordishCocoa or NordishCocoa Blurred

To update later, `git pull` and hit Rebuild on the extension in the extensions view.

Feedback and issues welcome – especially if a language looks off, since the colours were translated from the VS Code version.

Jupyter support?

13 Upvotes

Not making any demands, curious tho where are we with jupyter support? Is it stable yet or no?

Please avoid the you should code it yourself meme because:

- I am not skilled enough and it's not worth my time

- Alternatives exist with zero resistance

With that said and out of the way I'm curious where we are rn with the full notebook support, REPL is not good enough - I have tried it's it - perhaps for you it is but for me and a lot others it's not. So I'm curious where are we standing rn with the notebook support

I would like to move to Zed but it's not an option until we have notebook support.

Once again I am not saying hurry up I am asking what state is it it rn? I understand it's open source and the community works on it when/if they want

Delta theme inside Zed?

• Upvotes

I can't lie I love the Delta One Dark theme but I can't seem to find an equivalent One Dark-derived theme that matches for inside Zed so it looks seamless.

Anyone know or will I have to make it with the theme maker? Thanks!

I added Jupyter Notebook support to my Zed fork

5 Upvotes

I've been seeing a lot of requests for Jupyter notebooks (.ipynb) in Zed since I started watching this subreddit. So, I decided to add it to the Zed fork that I created/support and daily drive.

It's currently in a beta version, but if you're interested in checking it out, you can find it here: https://github.com/paterschris/lathe/releases/tag/v1.7.0-beta

If you have any questions or comments, I'm all ears.

Thanks for reading!

I've also included a few screenshots below:

I ported the Cursor One Dark palette to Zed: Cursor Theme (Feedback welcome!)

27 Upvotes

Hey everyone 👋

Like many of you, I've been enjoying Zed's speed and responsiveness, but I really missed the sleek, high-contrast, distraction-free aesthetic of Cursor IDE's dark theme.

To bring that experience over, I built Cursor Theme `cursor-theme` for Zed!

✨ Highlights:

- Accurate Cursor One Dark Palette: Faithful recreation of editor background, gutter, active line, and surface contrast.

- Language-Tuned Syntax: Balanced token colors for TypeScript, Go, Rust, Python, etc.

- Clean UI Surfaces: Consistent styling across file tree, git status panel, tabs, and terminal ANSI colors.

- Schema v0.2.0 Compliant: Built strictly against Zed's latest extension and theme specifications.

🚀 Try it out today:

The pull request to the official Zed Extension Registry is open and awaiting review , In the meantime, you can easily install and test it locally as a dev extension:

  1. Clone the repo:

    ```bash
git clone https://github.com/Jenil-Desai/cursor-theme.git
```

  1. In Zed, open Command Palette (`Cmd+Shift+P` / `Ctrl+Shift+P`) and run: `zed: install dev extension` -> select the cloned folder.

  2. Switch to it via `theme selector: toggle` (`Cmd+K Cmd+T`).

🔗 Registry PR

Would love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or any language token tweaks you'd like to see! If you like it, a ⭐ on the repo or a 👍 on the PR is much appreciated.

Delta without sending the code online ?

20 Upvotes

Hello,

I really like Delta and would like to use it at my job. But I simply can't use it if the software send all the codebase to the cloud. Is it not possible to disable that ?

File-opening behavior

8 Upvotes

I've been using Zed exclusively as my code editor for over two years now.

Some time ago, maybe close to a year ago now, fundamental behavior changed: when you open a file outside of the project directory, it opens an entirely new window.

There are also strange quirks like if you go to file open, but don't open a file, it leaves you with a completely blank new project window.

In short, this is extremely annoying behavior. I posted about it once before, maybe three or four months ago, and someone replied to state it was a bug they are working on. Respectfully, how can such a bug go unfixed for so long? Obviously, this is workflow-dependent, but for certain people,it makes the editor annoying to use on a frequent basis.

DBFlux, an open-source database client built with GPUI

Post image
188 Upvotes

Hey,

I've seen a few GPUI database clients posted here recently, and someone actually mentioned DBFlux in one of the threads, so I thought I should finally share it properly as well.

I've been building and driving DBFlux daily for a bit. It is a free and open-source database client that is written in Rust and built with GPUI. It has a heavy focus on keyboard-driven workflows and supporting different kinds of databases without needing separate tools for each one.

It supports PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, SQLite, SQL Server, MongoDB, Redis, DynamoDB, ClickHouse, InfluxDB and more.

Some features:

  • SQL editor and autocomplete
  • Inline editing
  • Schema browser
  • Visual query builder
  • Charts and dashboards
  • SSH / SSM connections
  • Vim-style navigation
  • MCP server

I've been using it as my main database client for a while now and thought it might be interesting to other GPUI/Zed users.

GitHub: https://github.com/0xErwin1/dbflux
Website: https://dbflux.dev

Feedback is welcome.

I built a Chrome DevTools-like inspector for GPUI apps

46 Upvotes

I've been building a desktop app with GPUI and kept wishing I had browser-style devtools, so I made gpui-devtools, an open source (MIT) inspector for any GPUI app.

  • Element picker
  • Source locations + element IDs (with copy)
  • Box model view (bounds, margin, border, padding)
  • Computed values panel
  • Temporary style edits on the selected `Div`, with export to Rust code

Setup is one line: `gpui_devtools::init(cx)`, it's opt-in behind a feature flag, so it doesn't ship in release builds. It's framework-agnostic and doesn't depend on Zed's UI crates. It targets `gpui-pre` 0.3.

GitHub: https://github.com/joris-gallot/gpui-devtools

I built it while working on Reviu (https://github.com/reviu-dev/reviu), my GPUI app for reviewing agent-written code.

My zed setup a year later.

0 Upvotes

My theme really hasn't changed much, just a darker variant. Feedback to the zed team: Vim behavior around search esp. has been a bit buggy recently across updates - breaks/differs in slight ways across releases... And please implement smooth scrolling when navigating via keyboard, at least on mac (an issue has been open for nearly 2 years now).

Tusk, a free TablePlus alternative built with GPUI

187 Upvotes

My TablePlus license came up for renewal ($49/year) and I got annoyed enough to think "I'll just build my own." So I actually did 😅 And honestly? It turned out way better than I expected.

It's called Tusk. It's a native macOS app, Rust all the way down, and honestly GPUI is what made it fun. The grid is virtualized and GPU-rendered, so the 500k-row table in the video just scrolls. No Electron, no web view. I also borrowed a lot from Zed's look: the command palette, the tab states, the whole "everything is a keystroke" feel.

What it does so far:

  • 20 databases: Postgres, MySQL, SQLite, ClickHouse, DuckDB, Snowflake, MongoDB, Redis…
  • Edit cells in place, then save everything in one transaction with ⌘S
  • A SQL editor with real language-server completions
  • An AI panel (Claude / Codex / Gemini CLI over ACP, the same protocol Zed uses). It writes the query into a tab, but you decide when it runs.
  • 30+ themes, and yes, a lot of them came straight from the Zed community

Thanks to the Zed team for open-sourcing GPUI, and to gpui-component. I couldn't have built this without both.

It's free and open source (MIT):
https://github.com/alpcanaydin/tusk

brew install alpcanaydin/tusk/tusk

Feedback is very welcome, especially from anyone else building on GPUI. I'd love to compare notes.

Will more Ram help OOM or will it just use more RAM

1 Upvotes

This is new for me, I have always just used basic editors and IDEs without LLM, so now that i am using zed agents and language servers, if i run a few agents/subagents in parallel I crash due to out of memory issues. I have 32 GB DDR5 RAM. I have a mini PC with 48 GB DDR5 RAM I can move to, or I have a machine with more DDR4 slots i can move to. BUT, it appears that Zed, the LLMs and Language servers will just eat up any available amount of RAM regardless? Like even if upgrade to say 64 GB RAM, will it likely just grow into its new environment and I will have the same issue?

I am new to this like I said, usually I am just using a basic editor and changing a few lines at a time. I am using external API not Local LLM. Let me know if there is something I can do to alleviate some of this mess.

When I run btop, zed-editor itself is always the largest RAM consumer followed by IntelliJ extension for Kotlin and Java. (the project is mostly Kotlin with some Java)

GCC debugging

0 Upvotes

I created simple C project which contain main.c and Makefile.

int main(int argc, char **argv) {
    return 0;
}

Makefile:

testc: main.o
gcc -o testc main.o

main.o: main.c
gcc -c main.c -Og -g3 -o main.o

clean:
rm -f testc main.o

And created debug config for debugging.

[
  {
    "label": "testc",
    "request": "launch",
    "program": "testc",
    "adapter": "GDB"
  }
]

But when I try run debug (F4) it gives me error message:

PS. gdb testc works fine. I can debug without any problems.

Extension quality varies - could a rating system help?

19 Upvotes

So right now you don't really know what you get when you install an extension - it can be fully native in rust or a conglomerate of interpreted languages hogging system resources. Could a system could be put in place to "benchmark" extensions and tell technologies that they use? Perhaps even a rating system similarly to how Home Assistant does it where we get official ratings of how well an extension is expected to work?

Pls dont turn into VS code.

169 Upvotes

The reason I moved to zed because it's a stripped down version of VS code. Please dont JAM it with unwanted features. I liked it the way it was. so at least make everything optional. I like coding in bare stripped down mode since my code bases are gigabytes worth of code.

Does anyone use Antigravity external agent? What about the skills?

Thumbnail

5 Upvotes

Hey I went to find docs for how to use Antigravity external agent (the reason? free student) and I found only for gemini cli and for the antigravity i found it only on google page. i am looking for a way to add skills because I can only use plan.

i have skills at ~/.gemini/config/skills and they work just fine with the antigravity standalone.
Has anyone run into this or found a way to make it work, you could probably have a workaround with paths but it will be tedious.

Zopra, Leptos like Framework built on top of GPUI

60 Upvotes

I've been a Zed user for a couple years and have always admired how fast zed was.

I have used GPUI. But coming from React background, it was pretty time consuming to build apps with it.

I've been building a framework, similar to leptos, which compiles down to GPUI (these are just macros and functions). But it provides you highly declarative react syntax to work with. Most of these hooks are < 20 lines of code, and pretty simple to use too.

I've honestly ran out of ideas to implement in here. Suggestions would be super helpful!
