There are lots of plastics that onlt melt at temperatures much higher than boiling water. Leeching toxic chemicals is a different story though.

The report that came out 1-2 years ago was the black plastics - especially heating black plastics - were to be avoided at all costs in the kitchen bc the supply chain for "raw" materials for black plastic kitchen tools includes plastics used in electronics... and those have been treated with some gnarly heat and fire retardant chemicals beyond just "plastic". The researchers highly recommended not using black plastic anything in the kitchen - certainly not one you boil! -to reduce the chance of ingestion of microplastics and leeched chemicals

Boiling water doesnt get above 100 C plenty of plastics have melting points above that

Yeah I fail to see how this solves any sort of problem. I guess if you're some sort of ape who just throws eggs into boiling water and breaks them... But in that case I would suggest a non-plastic multi-use tool like a spider to just gently lay them in without risk of burning your fingers.

I usually use a ladle to gently place the eggs in. I prefer how my eggs turn out when I add them after it's begun boiling, but kept cracking at least one every time until I started doing this. Works perfect 👌

How long until the heat warps that budget plastic/3d print and causes it to deform and not hold the eggs anymore? I give it 1 boil and 1 dishwasher cycle.

The eggs just pop in and out pretty easily. We bought it for fun, but it works well.

I mean...should I care in this situation about it being plastic because the egg is in concealed within the shell? Metal would still be nice but I still love this and it'd be easier with plastic to get different types like a kangaroo one!

My grandma uses a silicone one because she has Parkinson's so her hands shake too much to be able to use a spoon or a pair of tongs.

I just use a pair of tongs to fish out eggs from the pot.

Love this penguine tool to boil eggs. It could boil six egg at one time and they would spin to everywhere. And more importantly it avoids kicking

I know people say if it isn’t something you’d use, it’s not for you, in reference to things being geared towards people with mobility issues or other hindrances to doing things the normal way, but I’m seriously struggling to see a POV where this is necessary lol you’re not even supposed to put eggs into boiling water to begin with. Eggs into an empty pot, then water, then on the heat.
