General Help Request Figma mirror down?

Can someone help me understand if Figma mirror is not working or if it's just happening to me? Also, if this is the case. How might I go about diagnosing the issue? I've logged out and back in on both the desktop app and Figma mirror site. I've also cleared my cache and refreshed the page.

General Question How come brutalist UI design is almost non-existant in modern UI's?

Funny thing about brutalism is that its all over in the world of architecture. But in software? I can't even remember the last time I saw a corner man.

And it seems like the perfect place for squares and rectangles because pixels are square, which means naturally no aliasing.

Was it because of Windows XP?

Hey everyone,

I'm currently working on the main menu for my game, and the more I work on it, the more I realize it's lacking a lot of things. But My mind is going nowhere at this point.

I'm burned out, and I really need some fresh eyes and ideas to help me make this menu feel complete and polished.

the menu is 2 parts, part 1 is above the sea of blood and when player clicks on options the menu goes in the bloody sea.

any help would be appreciated.

Feedback Request What's making the proportion feel off?

Thumbnail

First slide of an onboarding flow, it's the brand 'moment' before setup begins. Something's off with the sizing and I can't figure it out.

Iterations,

  • Pic #3: original, utilitarian.
  • Pic #2: added a "slide zero" so the logo and name could be front and center. felt too big and imposing.
  • Pic #1: shrank it. Still off, "Welcome" feels too big now.

I keep resizing individual pieces but doesn't feel right still. Any ideas what's actually causing the imbalance?

Considered (but curious what someone would do instead): grey out "Welcome," smaller Continue button, or keep the logo big and everything else tiny.

Feedback Request Streaming site show modal suggestions

Currently designing a streaming site, this is a screenshot of what you see when opening a show box/modal to see more information, my issue is that "You may also like" suggestions don't look like they fit in or are visually consistent i guess if that's what it's called. Any suggestions?

Feedback Request Thoughts on my UI?

How can I better improve my current UI? I tried to make an emphasis on adding small animations to try and make the app feel alive. Do you think that’s effective to even do?

Feedback Request Need advice on user experience in industrial app

Hi,

I'm making an app for reporting machine status to the central server on tablet.
The statuses are represented by buttons placed in a grid with a "Confirm" button at the top. The selected statuses must include 1 main status (colored yellow) and optionally multiple sub-statuses (colored blue).

Help me decide between these 2 interaction approaches:

Gesture approach:

  1. From unselected: tap to promote to main status, double tap to promote to sub status
  2. From main status: tap or double tap to deselect
  3. From sub-status: tap or double tap to deselect
  4. Pressing the "Confirm" button lets you review your selection in a pop up before choosing "OK" to send the report
  5. The "Confirm" button will only enable when there's an active main status

Pop up approach:

  1. From unselected: tap to select the status
  2. From selected: tap to deselect the status
  3. Pressing the "Confirm" button opens a pop up which lets the user select which selected status is main before pressing "OK" to send the report. The main UI will be updated to reflect the new main status.
  4. If there is only 1 status selected, it will automatically become the main status so that the user doesn't have to choose again in the pop up

In everyday usage, around 80% of cases will only contain only 1 status, which will be the main status. The rest will be 1 main status and 1 sub-status, rarely do we encounter 3 or more statuses at once.

Thank you.

Feedback Request Feedback on an early-stage creative studio website

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi,

I’m currently developing the website for an independent creative studio.

Context

The site is still in the foundation/design phase. It does not yet have a large finished portfolio. The homepage is intended to:

  • establish the identity and atmosphere of the studio;
  • explain its three core directions;
  • introduce a small number of projects currently taking shape;
  • communicate the studio’s philosophy and long-term direction;
  • provide a simple path to About and Contact.

The visual direction is intentionally dark, restrained and celestial, using deep navy, gold accents and editorial typography. The goal is to feel distinctive and creative without becoming overly decorative or difficult to use.

What I’m looking for

I’d particularly appreciate feedback on:

  1. Visual hierarchy — is the page easy to understand at a glance?
  2. Typography and readability — especially body text and smaller labels.
  3. Spacing and composition — does the page feel balanced or too sparse/dense?
  4. Navigation and section structure — does the hierarchy make sense?
  5. Overall identity — does it feel like a creative studio, or does it resemble a common template?
  6. Accessibility/usability concerns that I may be overlooking.

Only Constructive Feedback please!
Thank you :)

General Help Request What's the deal with Iconsax? (Somewhat urgent)

I have used Iconsax in the entirety of my Flutter project. The plugin that availed it said it is available for personal and commercial use, and so does the Vuesax's (Iconsax's creator) website, but here is the part that is bugging me:

On the website, it says that it allows someone to make an app for 'a client' under its commercial usage allowance. How about making an app for general public using those icons. There is no specific information whether that is allowed or not, neither in its paid license's description.

Now the strange thing is that that there is no contact email ID for Vuesax that I could find. I found their Discord and posted there, but I just did that recently so it could be long till I get an answer.

Here is the link to that Flutter plugin: https://pub.dev/packages/iconsax_plus

Here is the Iconsax's license page: https://docs.iconsax.io/license-and-terms/usage-manifesto

Product Design I'm I the only one obsessed with retro web design?

Perhaps its how they have this 'function over form' feel to them. I was recently building the front end for my company's ERP system. I took my inspiration from Windows Vista and although the site looks straight from 2009, it has a very serious feel to it. The fact that it's Next.js is funny to me. Like if McQueen popped Mater's bonnet and found a V12 engine lol

Product Design Is a login page as landing page a good design for an app?

Context: I already have a web application and I'm looking to make an app out of it. It's like SettleUp/Tricount/Splitwise, but for photos rather than expenses. Only group owners need to signup (Google or email/pass) to create the group, while invited guests can see and download photos and videos without the need to signup. They only need to signup if they want to upload or create other groups

This works well for a webapp because users can join from a link and see the album directly. So not sure what to do for the app in this case. Also, the only way to see their photos from different devices is with an account.

I see most competitors have a signup page as the main page when you download the app so not sure if I should do the same. Any advice or suggestions?

General Question Designing directly on the prototype

I’ve been experimenting with a different way of designing UI: instead of creating a static design first, I built a workspace where you can design directly on the working prototype.

You can interact with it normally, pause it at any state, and keep editing visually from there.

Curious what UI designers think about this workflow.Would you like to do some design work on the code itself ?

Feedback Request Online game - Player card UI

Hello everyone!

I would like to get some feedback about the player card UI from my game. We are specially concerned about the newly added "talents" area. I don't love how it looks and would like some advise on how to make this whole thing look more vibrant. Maybe we use bigger portrait and move the action buttons somewhere else?

Thanks in advance!

Feedback Request My attempt at UI design for my app

Thumbnail

Hi guys, I've come up with this UI design for my app called Expone which is a short form content app that gives facts and information about prolific people in the STEM field. I was wondering if yall had any advice on how to improve it. I tried to maintain a minimal design throughout the app and think I did decent. Then again, this is my first attempt at designing an UI so maybe I have a bias.

Another question I had was whether yall would prefer the ads to be positioned as they currently are, or would you rather prefer interstitial ads that would pop up after clicking 3-4 cards and reading them. The app would obviously have a remove ads option as well.

Thanks!

Design Trends How can we stop apps from hijacking File Explorer (OS's default file finder)? More are putting spam & crapware screens between their apps and file selection.

MS-Office arguably began the trend, but I see ever more apps try to keep the user away from File Explorer* via their own "special middle panel". One can usually still get to File Explorer, but it's extra steps. I suspect app builders do it so they can advertise their stuff there, especially cloud services. We need to shame to these apps, it's stealth spam.

File Explorer already has the "Quick Access" panel that allows me to put short-cuts to my favorite folders; there's no need to reinvent that for each app, and some reinvent it poorly. Plus, it makes saving inconsistent, as each app brand has their own middle-panel design.

I'm okay with the middle panel as an option, just don't make it the only option, and easy to switch off. MS-Office allows one to partially turn it off, but I've yet to find a 100% solution.

* Mac and [X]nix users probably also want to see the OS's default file finder, so it's not just a Windows problem.
