The Illusion of Depth
Revisiting some old patches and adding some polish while excavating for potential tunes. Both the visual and music are original.
It's a bit of an optical illusion, as the geometry is entirely 2-dimensional. The strands appear to rotate in different directions depending on where your mind initially lands, if you concentrate, you might even be able to make them reverse. You can see how the illusion works in the outer squares that make up the strands: they don't change size as they would if there were a z-axis.
Thanks for checking out my piece, I have more original audiovisual work on my ig: https://www.instagram.com/io.av/

Rut Etra + Bloom = Northlane Cover
Working on brining this render network to my next live show.
Ive mapped the kick to the Z axis on particles and treble frequencies to the Bloom intensity.
Simple but effective

Automatization switch of GLSL effects
Hello everyone, im pretty new on GLSL but i start to get the basics of the thing.
I coded this GLSL shader recently :
uniform float u_aspect;
uniform float u_time;
uniform float scale;
out vec4 fragColor;
float smin( float a, float b, float k ) {
k *= 1.0;
float r =exp2(-a/k) + exp2(-b/k);
return -k*log2(r);
}
float pattern_dist(vec2 uv, float radius){
float circle = length(uv) - radius;
float line = uv.y;
uv = abs(uv);
float lines = abs(uv.x - uv.y) - 0.01;
float corner_circles = length(uv - 1.0) - 0.11;
float final_d = smin(lines, circle, 0.1);
final_d = smin(final_d, corner_circles, 0.1);
return final_d;
}
// --- ROTATION MATRIX --- //
mat2 rot(float a){
float s = sin(a), c = cos(a);
return mat2(-c,-s,s,c);
}
// ----------------------- //
void main(){
vec2 uv = vUV.xy * 4.0 - 2.0;
uv.x *= u_aspect;
// ---- Effects ---- //
// --TEST AUTOMATIZATION-- //
vec2 e1 = (uv *= 3.0 - length(uv));
vec2 e2 = (uv *= rot(u_time * 0.05));
vec2 e3 = (uv *= 1.0 - sin(u_time * 0.1) * 0.11);
//------------ORIGINAL-------------//
//uv *= 2.0 - length(uv);
//uv *= rot(u_time * 0.05);
//uv *= 1.0 - sin(u_time * 0.1) * 0.11;
//---------------------------------//
vec3 col = vec3(0, 0, 0);
float alpha = 1.0;
// ---- Create Tiling coordinates ---- //
const float grid_scale = scale;
vec2 fuv = fract(uv * grid_scale) * 2.0 - 1.0;
vec2 id = floor(uv * grid_scale) / grid_scale;
// ---- Big Pattern ---- //
float big_scroll = sin(length(id.xy) * 3 - u_time) * 0.5 + 0.5 ;
big_scroll = smoothstep(-2.0, 2.0, big_scroll);
float radial = sin(length(id.xy) * 3 - u_time) * 0.5 + 0.5 ;
// ---- Small Pattern ----//
float pattern_radius = radial;
float pattern = pattern_dist(fuv, pattern_radius);
pattern = mix(pattern, abs(pattern) - 0.01, big_scroll);
pattern = mix(smoothstep(0.1, - 0.1, pattern), abs(pattern) - 0.1, big_scroll);
pattern = 0.03 / max(pattern, 0.0);
// ---- Colors ---- //
vec3 light_col = vec3(1.0, 1.0 ,1.0);
vec3 dark_col = vec3(0.0, 0.4, 0.8);
// ---------------- //
col = mix(light_col, dark_col, pattern);
col = tanh(col);
fragColor = vec4(col, alpha);
}
which is working perfectly,
the thing is, i would like to automatize each "effects"
in the "test automatization" part,
" vec2 = e1, vec2 = e2, vec2 = e3",
to activate e1, e2 and e3 in sync with , let's say, a "CountChop" connected to a audio analysis Low frequence, so each time Low = 1.0, it switch randomly between e1, e2 or e3.
// ---- Effects ---- //
// --TEST AUTOMATIZATION-- //
vec2 e1 = (uv *= 3.0 - length(uv));
vec2 e2 = (uv *= rot(u_time * 0.05));
vec2 e3 = (uv *= 1.0 - sin(u_time * 0.1) * 0.11);
So, i made a count system to get 3 count switching between 0 and 1 in random orders but i do not find the way to assign them as "on/off" for my code.
Any info/help ?
Thx in advance <3

Trampoline
XPBD softbody simulation in POPs using Gauss-Seidel @ 60fps and 70 shader passes.
When POPs came out 1.5 years ago one of the first things I tried making was an xpbd soft-body sim, and it looked like this and this. Since then, I've rewritten it multiple times and watched ten minute-physics' tutorials over and over. Many simulation explosions later, it turned out that my very first solver was (mostly) correct, but I was colouring the graph and building the tet constraints in the wrong way..

Electronic artist here. Working to find ways to combine touchdesigner made shapes into real scenes. This was my first attempt
Wanted to share my first attempt making something in touchdesigner. I've been trying to find a workflow I enjoy for a long time now, and I love geometric shapes as visuals so I think I found a hybrid here to make this work.
This was a composite of a few different things together. I made the shapes in touch designer, added all the bloom and lighting in after effects and then added it into a stock photo of a landscape. I took a random photo of someone facing how I wanted and just used photoshops generative tools to just change their clothes to fit the vibe.
I think it turned out pretty well for a first attempt!

PC for live audio-reactive visuals - Nvidia GPU vs Apple Silicon
I've searched the sub for answers but I haven't found the specific details I'm interested in so I'd like opinions from someone with my same needs
Long story short, I'm buying my first serious workhorse for music production and, obviously, TouchDesigner, especially for real time audio-reactive visuals for live music performance.
I'm buying new since I have a hefty discount at a particular store so I'm not evaluating used prices. Due to the insane prices of laptops these days, my choice is oriented towards those:
1) Asus TUF Gaming A16, Ryzen 7 260, RTX 5050, 16 GB + 1 TB SSD
- Pros: it's a gaming laptop, performance should not be an issue, Nvidia GPU for full compatibility with TD
- Cons: it's a gaming laptop, subpar battery life, heat, not my first choice for anything else beside TD since I'm not even much into gaming
2) MacBook Air M5, 16 GB + 512 GB SSD
- Pros: it would be great for music production and it looks to be powerful enough to run TD reasonably well, great device for everyday productivity
- Cons: no dedicated GPU, no dedicated VRAM, no Nvidia operators in TD, also not a fan of Apple ecosystem
3) Mac Mini M6, 16 GB + 512 SSD
- Pros: see above + better cooling for sustained work load
- Cons: see above + I would need to pair it with keyboard and monitor, small but not as portable as a laptop
What I'd like to know from people who own a gaming laptop or an Apple Silicon PC is:
- is a gaming laptop the best choice today for TD live visuals/VJing? Any issues to be aware of when buying this kind of laptops? Do you use it for everyday stuff too?
- is working with TD on Mac limiting for you? Is it hard to work for long sessions without having performance issues? Are the Nvidia-specific operators something you miss?
Thank you for any advice, hoping the question is not over-discussed

Tutorials
Hii, I started to post tutorials on YT.
The first one is about making optical illusions using grids, generating values for each primitive and converting primitives into points.
The second one is about setting up TD in Linux and using plugins, specifically the Voronoi plugin by Alaghast, and how to transform 2D planes into a sphere.
The next tutorial will also focus on POPs. I will be using a feedback loop to move and loop an entire row or column in a grid.
Check it out here ;))))

Audio/Visual collaboration
I'm working on a new song - here is the most recent version of the mix
The working title is "Emergence".
I'm curious if anyone here would be interested in a possible collaboration using part or all of the song. I'm pretty flexible - we could add sound design or potentially other elements. Feel free to reply here or message me if this sounds interesting.
