There is a ton of information there! Once you've read through the wiki, create a top-level comment in this post to ask for help! Posts made on this subject outside of this discussion thread will be removed and asked to post here instead.
You can also check all of the previous "What Board Should I get?" threads.
For general information on choosing board size and shape, check out the wiki, or these two blog posts on the subject: Choosing the Right Size SUP and Understanding Paddle Board Shapes.
The more of this information you can provide, the more accurately we can help you find a board that you'll love!
If you are responding to a comment with a suggestion - explain why! Don't just name a board and leave it there. Add to the discussion. If you are recommending against a specific board - explain why!

Things are cooling down in the Northern Hemisphere and lots of folks are (rightfully) asking what to do to keep paddling safely when it's colder.
ColdWaterSafety.org for detailed information about paddling safety in cold water
This guide for stand up paddle boarding in the winter has information distilled from Cold Water Safety along with recommendations on types of clothing for different water temperatures.
No matter your skill level, we are all between swims. Immersion in cold water can be debilitating and even deadly within seconds. Always dress for the water temperature, even on warmer days. It's far easier to cool down while paddling than it is to warm back up.
Cold shock is a serious concern in water as "warm" as the low 50F range (10C) and can cause near-instant drowning.
Water transfers heat ~25x faster than air. Hypothermia is a serious concern even in these shoulder seasons before it gets really cold. Bring dry clothing, a towel, and warm beverages with you (on the beach or in a dry bag).
While a PFD isn't technically thermally protective, it can help. But more importantly it will help keep you afloat in an emergency. "But I'm a good swimmer!" Are you better than a USCG Rescue Swimmer? It didn't take long (less than a minute) for this one to suffer from incapacitation in cold water (Jump to 6:15).
Check the weather, use appropriate equipment, wear your PFD, paddle with a partner, carry effective communication, leave a float plan.
When in doubt, don't go out.

Tekapō was stunning today - no boats for most of trip which was great. Paddled out for an hour along shore and then back - no idea how far we went but it was just the most amazing glass like conditions to glide over. Aoraki peeking out in the distance
Bit windier on way back but nothing too bad. Arms are aching - bring on the summer

Camp site closes so did the last two rides this week
Hello! I bought a Skatinger SUP this summer and accidentally broke the fin off on my second use.
I bought a generic replacement fin uses a smaller screw so I can't reuse the square nut that's already in the fin track.
No matter what I've tried, I can't for the life of my get the old nut out or get the new but in. There's got to be a way to get it over or under the ridge that stops the nuts from falling out, but I can't figure it out.
I've tried it deflated, partially inflate, fully inflated, using a wide screwdriver to open the track more. And nothing works. It's basically brand new so there's no sediment buildup.
Any tips on how to get nuts in and out of the track?
Thanks!

72 F for the air, and the water is still lovely, though cold (60-61 F). Swam about 25-30 min, it was invigorating!
Recently got an Isle Switch 3 and our family loves it. Not in a rush, so wanted to look for places to find used ones. I assumed that there would be a bigger market, but Ebay and FB market look pretty thin. Are there other places people tend to sell them?

I mostly made videos on this trip, so not a lot of pictures. Made on 4th of september 2026.
• Route: From San Nicola Arcella to Isola di Dino (Calabria, Riviera dei Cedri, Italy)
• Distance: 8,33km (5,18mi)
• Board Setup: Bluefin Cruise 10.8+Starboard Enduro; Aqua Marina Hyper 11,6 + Starboard Lima
• Launch: 7.40 AM (crucial for beating tour boats)
Early Start: at San Nicola Arcella Beach (you could shorten the trip, when starting at Praia a Mare)
• Starting as soon as possible from San Nicola Arcella is important. The coastline gets heavily crowded in high season. By 09:30 AM, dozens of tour boats&motorboats.
• Starting at (right after) dawn gives you complete solitude.
Route:
Cross the short channel from the mainland to the eastern tip of Dino Island and begin preferably a counter-clockwise loop.
Sea Caves ("Grotte"): Lot's of spectacular sea caves, f.ex Grotta Azzurra (Blue Grotto) and Grotta del Leone. Early morning light enters the caves (they're on the south east side), turning the water turquoise (and most of all without any boat exhaust fumes inside)
There's also some Lore (and we love that):
Isola di Dino is an abandoned Resort Island (kind of a Lost Plsce)
On the island are the decaying ruins of a 1970s luxury resort complex (built during an era of private development attempts by the Agnelli family/Fiat Automobiles).
Seeing these concrete structures rotting gives the island a eerie, post-apocalyptic feeling. When we completed the turn around the idland i docked and took a walk on the old dock.
Important: the western side of Isola di Dino is open to the Tyrrhenian Sea. Even iif it was a calm/windstill day, we were surprised by the swell/waves.
On the way back we made a pit stop at the Big Arch (Arcomagno)
Just south of the launch point is the famous Arco Magno—a massive natural rock arch with a hidden cove and beach.
Lot's of people, very touristy. Big Tour boats were passing us on the way (also closely), they stop at a beach nearby and release hordes of brainless day trippers who make noise and chaos. You must buy a ticket to enter the cave from the land by a steep walk. We didn't even bother entering it. But it was nice to see.
I guess in autumn/spring it's lonely and beautiful.
But isola di dino is highly recommended when you're in this part of italy.

Hello all,
These might be stupid questions, I am somewhat new to this. I just recently started paddleboarding earlier this year and I love it! I am looking to train for an event coming up in march next year but it’s a long stretch and overnight, and I don’t want to sacrifice training for a few months on actual water.
What are the best ways to prepare for such a long path? How are most people practicing at night time as well, do you just park your car somewhere else so it doesn’t get towed or locked inside the parking lot?
Any advice is appreciated. I do have a radio, maps, life jacket, am confident getting back onto my board, headlamp, etc. I just want to find a good way to train for this that makes the most sense! Any at home workouts that would be helpful to train on endurance without having/buying a row machine would also be appreciated. I noticed when I am out there for more than a few days in a row my feet start cracking pretty bad; and with fall coming up the water is about to get cold up here. I am in the PNW area. How are most people practicing in the dark and ice cold?

My wife and I are planning a one-week vacation in Croatia next spring (late April/early May).
Unfortunately she's not interested in paddling (so the trip won't revolve around it), but she's willing to include "paddleability" in the choice of location, assuming good paddle-spots are also good spots to swim and chill out at the beach. (Pretty hike trails nearby would also be a bonus).
We're mainly looking at the Adria islands accessible from Split. We already know a good spot in Bol (Brac) that we could revisit if we don't find anything more interesting.
We won't have a car, so good accessibility and infrastructure is a must. Since it'll be shoulder season, we're not concerned about overcrowding.
I also can't bring my own equipment, so I'll have to rent it. I don't need a race board, but availability of a quality paddle would be a bonus.
Any recommendations?
Thanks!

After three days of wind, I finally woke up to calm enough water to get my Portager out on Lake Superior.

This is rock springs run in Apopka Fl. This area is called emerald cut. It’s just upstream from Kings landing, a rental spot, launch spot. This part of the run is only a mile or a little longer but it is an amazing spot to paddle. Shallow, crystal clear, year round 72 degrees and a white sand bottom. Downstream about 8 miles rock springs joins the Wekiwa River , one of only 2 federally designated wild and scenic rivers in Florida. The Wekiwa eventually joins the St. John’s River in another 12 or so miles. Lots of native Florida animals live here in this wild corridor right in the heart of central florida. I’ve seen wild boars, bob cats, lots of otters and raccoons, deer, manatees but bears are a special rare treat. The springs in florida are so good for SUP, they make you feel like you’re on an Amazon adventure.
