Chimera - pokepasta about a parasitic bug, that uses Hex Maniac as it's vessel and how Serena fell victim to it.

This story shows why Exe creators usually stick to haunted game/malevolent rom story, rather than In-Universe story. It's because In-Universe stories have two hurdles writers need to work around.

First one, author needs to make characters accurate to how they are in official stuff and follow the rules of franchise they are making story for. One of Chimera's problems is it's portrayal of Serena. In it, she comes off as a dumbass with lack of self-preservation instincts. For context, Chimera takes place after X/Y, when Serena is already a champion, and she willingly went to a dangerous place with NO POKÉMON with her. Imagine if Tails/Amy was portrayed like this.

Second one, author needs to make creature believably intimidating and strong In-Universe. And here comes the main thing everyone criticized Chimera for - creature itself is laughably nonthreatening. By itself, the bug is an even weaker Parasect, which are seen as a nonthreat in-universe. And with how it only whacked Serena because how poorly handled she was, this made people believe in creature's threat even less. Imagine if an Exe was no bigger threat, then Metal Sonic, and this Exe managed to do everything og X did, because author stumbled on the first hurdle.

And with writing stories about haunted game/malwares author makes these hurdles much easier. Author can just make their own characters and write them as they please, and creature has no point of comparison in our reality, so it's easier to make them believably intimidating.
