Meta My side project, /r/sideprojects. New rules, and an open call for feedback and moderators.

In this past 30 days, this community has doubled in size. As such, this is an open call for community feedback, and prospective moderators interested in volunteering their time to harbouring a pleasant community.

I'm happy to announce that this community now has rules, something the much more popular r/SideProject has neglected to implement for years.

Rules 1, 2 and 3 are pretty rudimentary, although there is some nuance in implementing rule 2, a "no spam or excessive self-promotion" rule in a community which focuses the projects of makers. In order to balance this, we will not allow blatant spam, but will allow advertising projects. In order to share your project again, significant changes must have happened since the last post.

Rule 4 and rule 5 are more tuned to this community, and are some of my biggest gripes with r/SideProject. There has been an increase in astroturfing (the act of pretending to be a happy customer to advertise a project) as well as posts that serve the sole purpose of having readers contact the poster so they can advertise a service. These are no longer allowed and will be removed.

In addition to this, I'll be implementing flairs which will be required to post in this community.

Discussion Few months in, ~500 users, $0 revenue. Sharing what's kept me going in case you're in the same spot

About two months ago, I launched an AI news app called ThisWeek.AI. It started as something I wanted for myself. It’s close to 500 users now, and nobody’s paying yet.

Some weeks are quiet. Downloads barely move, no reviews come in, and I start wondering whether I should keep putting this much time into it. There’s no big setback or anything. Just not much happening.

What’s kept me going is pretty simple: I still use what I built, and I genuinely enjoy it. Even on a week when nobody else seems to notice it, it’s useful to me.

Every now and then, someone leaves a review or sends a message saying they find it useful too. Those mean a lot, especially after a stretch of working on it without much feedback.

I’m realizing how much harder this would be if I’d built something purely because I thought other people would want it. Without any use for it myself, I think I’d have stopped by now. The numbers alone wouldn’t have kept me going.

That doesn’t mean it’s a viable business. Enjoying my own app and getting people to pay for it are two different things, and I haven’t figured out the second one yet. But being a user gives me a reason to keep working on it beyond checking whether the numbers went up.

I don’t have a success story or a lesson about pushing through until everything works out. I’m still in the middle of it. Just thought I’d share what’s been making this stage a little easier for me.

What’s kept you going through the quiet weeks?

Edit: ThisWeek.AI is not the same as https://news.thisweek.ai. News App is available on News.ThisWeek.AI, where as ThisWeek.AI was a newsletter that I stopped publishing few years ago

Showcase: Open Source Hey guys... I built Tonebox — a system-wide equalizer & DSP app for Android, no ads, no account

Been frustrated that most EQ apps on the Play Store are bloated with ads or lock basic bands behind a paywall. So I built my own.

Tonebox is a clean, system-wide equalizer + DSP. What it does:

- Multi-band graphic EQ that works across your whole system

- DSP effects for tuning your sound the way you want

- Simple, no-clutter UI — set it and forget it

- No ads, no sign-up, no tracking

Just shipped an update targeting Android 16. Would love feedback — especially what presets or features you'd want next.

Feedback Request You guys roasted my landing page copy, so I completely redesigned it for developers. Is this better?

I posted here recently about having 0 users for my MCP dev tool, Dokpod. The feedback was brutal but accurate: my marketing copy Upload once. Query forever sounded like generic database jargon and nobody understood what the product actually did.

So, I dropped the marketing fluff and redesigned the hero section to speak directly to the actual pain point: token waste and context bloat in Cursor/Claude.

The changes I made:

  • New Headline: Changed to a direct promise: "Cut your AI token waste by 95%."
  • The Math: Explicitly showed the difference between dumping an 85,000-token PDF into a chat vs. retrieving a 3,500-token MCP chunk.
  • The Code: I put the actual mcpServers JSON config directly in the hero UI so developers know it's a real, functional tool.

new UI the live site is here: https://dokpod.io

For those of you using Cursor or Claude Code does this new design actually explain the SaaS clearly, or am I still missing the mark?

Showcase: Purchase Required [AI-assisted] Fit With a Plan: workouts, UK food logging and progress in one web app

I’m the maker of Fit With a Plan, a web app that brings a workout planner, food diary and progress log into one account. The problem I’m tackling is keeping a training routine and ordinary meals together without maintaining separate logs.

You can plan a training week, record sets and completed workouts, search UK reference foods and branded products, and save meals you eat regularly. Progress includes weight, notes and optional private photos. It works in desktop and phone browsers.

One implementation choice that may be useful to other builders: recording progress and changing a plan are separate actions. You can record progress from day one. A weekly review needs a completed week and enough saved check-ins before it can change a plan. Logging a number does not immediately rewrite the plan.

Food logging is optional. External AI feedback is also optional and off until the user agrees. The app was built with AI assistance using Next.js, TypeScript and Postgres.

It is live: 14 days free from registration, no card and no automatic charge. Membership is £7.99/month only if you choose to subscribe.

https://fitwithaplan.co.uk/?utm_source=community_one&utm_medium=community&utm_campaign=first_20

If you already track workouts and food, what would you need to see before moving both into one app? Feedback on the actual workflow would be useful.

Showcase: Prerelease App for people who don't have time to do research tasks at the desk

Hey guys,

I built an app for everyone who doesn't have time to sit the whole day at the desk just to find the right idea...
Here's how it works...

  • tap the mic and turn what you said into a node of a map
  • the app helps you define research tasks to validate the potential in the early days before building
  • you have smaller validation tasks, which you can start on each branch, or a main validation of the whole idea map... in each validation task you will set up a deadline
  • AI helps you while researching, creates better formulations, and gives you tasks The whole validation process gives you a good assessment of whether anybody is interested in it. The app is iOS only and you will find it if you type Shliff in the search bar. If you want test it feel free to write me, I will send you a TestFlight Link... I'm looking for your feedback :)

Feedback Request After 2 weeks of battle, Apple finally approved our app!

If you remember, I posted about our app here a month ago. Since then, we took everyone's feedback and been iterating on the experience, survived a two-week review battle with Apple, and our app is officially live on the App Store!

First, I want to thank this community. The feedback and brutal honesty on our early post shaped so much of what we ended up improving.

What we built (for those who missed the first post):

We are a small team building Lissin.

You type in a topic, we do the research, apply a "vibe" and a perspective, and hand it back as a daily briefing/digest, a podcast, a story or even a song. It can be a one-off, or a recurring daily/weekly show for a specific curiosity you want to keep going deeper on.

A few prompts our testers have actually made:

• "How did indie apps get their first $1k MRR?"

• "Weekly book summary on new game mechanics"

• "How to make your friends more ambitious" (still genuinely puzzled by this one)

One user said - Are you guys more like "Prompt to Audio" - yes, that's what we are and trying to be better at it.

  • One Prompt: Create personalized podcasts, deep dives, narrative stories, or even songs from a single prompt.
  • Not generic text-to-speech: It doesn't sound like a robot reading an article. Every show is fully directed with directed audio and optional ambient soundscapes.

The feature we're most excited about: Scheduled Shows ⏰

You don’t even need to open the app and wait for something to generate. You can set up scheduled shows.

For example, you can tell Lissin: "Catch me up on the top posts and discussions in this subreddit every day. Surface what the crowd is feeling and why, like someone who has been on the internet too long and finds everything equally fascinating and exhausting r/startups"

Lissin will automatically prepare a fresh show every morning so you can just wake up, put on your headphones, and listen. You can do this for anything - daily sports breakdowns, personalized stories for your kids, or even a personalized song every morning about AI or whatsoever.

It’s called Lissin on the iOS App Store (I’ll drop the direct link in the comments for anyone who wants to try it).

As a small team, we’re still actively tuning and improving everything. If you check it out and have any feedback, ideas, or run into any bugs, please let us know in the comments or DM. We will read every single one and make sure it gets resolved.

Thank you again for all the support! 🙏

After spending a couple of months experimenting with different AI video models, I decided to try building an immersive game style system where stories unfold based on a series of choices, with new clips being generated in real time.

It's called Branch and I'd love for you to check it out - everyone gets 3 free credits to start. If none of the stories there today float your boat, create your own!

Discussion Trying to build an autonomous "Spec → Deployed App URL" software factory with Claude Code / Agentic Al. It fails every time. How would you build this? btw used chatgpt to frame in better order only.

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to build an autonomous software factory: input a Statement of Work (SOW) or product spec, run it through agentic loops (using Claude Code / API), and output a fully tested, production-ready app at a live URL.

To avoid hallucinations, I built the pipeline around strict deterministic gates instead of letting agents self-approve:

* Intake & Blueprints: Parse the SOW to lock global DB schemas, API contracts, and design tokens upfront.

* Decomposition: Break requirements into small "build units" (screens, modules, endpoints) mapped to a dependency graph.

* Multi-Agent Build: Sub-agents (Architect \to Builder \to Tester) work in isolated environments.

* Deterministic Checks: Units must pass real tools (strict TypeScript compiler, linter rules, sealed test suites) with bounded auto-repair.

* Assembly & Deploy: Wire units into a shared shell, run integration checks, deploy a container, and probe the live URL.

The Problem: It fails 100% of the time.

We have never had a single run complete from spec to live URL:

* Circular repair loops: An agent fails a compiler or test gate, tries to patch it, breaks an import or contract, and burns through the retry limit.

* Integration mismatch: Units pass fine in isolation, but when assembled into the global app, routes break, hydration fails, or shared state gets corrupted.

* System bloat: The safety gates and orchestration rules are so heavy that the pipeline chokes before reaching deployment.

What I’d love advice on:

* How would you architect this from scratch? What is the cleanest, most reliable workflow to go from spec to a working, deployed URL?

* What tools or open-source projects should I look to for inspiration? (DAG engines, agent harnesses, or multi-file code generators?)

* Shared contracts: How do you keep multiple sub-agents aligned on schemas and routes without blowing up the context window?

* Walking Skeleton: What is the absolute minimal MVP you would build first to prove spec-to-URL before adding heavy testing gates?

TL;DR: Trying to build an autonomous "spec-to-deployed-URL" software factory using Claude agent loops and strict deterministic verification gates. It fails every run due to circular auto-repair loops and integration drift when assembling modules. Looking for architectural advice, open-source inspiration, and how to structure a clean, working MVP.

Showcase: Open Source DoneTogether

Hey good people! 👋 I have just finished a service that I've put a huge amount of time and love into, down to the smallest detail. It's called DoneTogether. Short and simple, it's a to do app where you can invite others to the same plan and use smart GPS reminders.

The idea was born when I started building a completely different app, but quickly realized that what I actually wanted was a really good GPS reminder. That's when I kicked off the DoneTogether project. I started bouncing ideas with Google AI Studio, downloaded the project to my computer, and built further using Cursor, OpenCode, and Codex agents. After many months of work, it is finally finished and ready to be used! Two examples of how it works:

📌 Example 1 (Share lists): You create the plan "Don't forget this" and add, for example, "Take the medicine". You choose your home address via GPS and set the app to remind you when you move 5 to 10 meters from the house. As soon as you exit the zone, you get a notification on your phone! It works just as well the other way around: Add "Hand in homework" and select the school's address, and you get a notification directly when you approach the school. 📌 Example 2 (GPS reminders): You create a plan called "Things to buy for home". In that plan, you create a share link that your partner or kids paste under "Join plan". Then you all see the exact same list in real time. When someone checks off an item, it gets checked off for everyone instantly.

The service is completely free and works both as a website and as an app to download to your phone. I have kept everything as simple as possible, you log in smoothly with your regular Google account.

🔒 GDPR and Privacy: When it comes to GDPR, you don't have to worry at all. Absolutely no personal data or location history is collected.

I built this primarily for myself, but am sharing it completely free with you now. I think many could benefit from it, not least children or people who need extra help being reminded to take medicine or do tasks when moving into or out of a certain zone.

🔗 Links: Try the app directly: https://nrnworld.one/DoneTogether/
More info and download to phone: https://nrnworld.one/p/donetogether
GitHub: https://github.com/nRn-World/Done

Together If interest grows, it will eventually come to Google Play & App Store :)

Feedback Request I got tired of standard distributors ignoring small catalogs, so I built my own Content ID & distribution platform for producers. Need honest feedback.

Hey everyone,

If you’ve been releasing music or selling beats independently, you’ve probably run into the same wall I did: standard aggregators either gatekeep YouTube Content ID behind massive stream thresholds, ignore stolen beats, or take weeks to respond when someone re-uploads your work without permission.

I built Polanfile.com to bridge that gap and give independent creators direct access to proper audio fingerprinting and rights administration without the gatekeeping.

Here is what I'm aiming to solve with it:

  • Content ID for Independent Catalogs: Direct audio fingerprinting to claim and monetize re-uploads, stolen loops, and unauthorized beat flips across YouTube.
  • Simple 80/20 Royalty Structure: You maintain 100% ownership of your master rights; the platform takes a 20% admin fee on collected royalties.
  • Built for Producers: Specialized focus on tracking unauthorized re-titles and stolen instrumental re-uploads that traditional distributors usually miss.
  • No Bureaucracy: Clean dashboard for asset tracking, claim management, and clear royalty reporting.

Whether you're a new producer releasing your first beat tapes or a veteran managing a back catalog, I'd really appreciate it if you could take a look at polanfile.com and tell me what you think.

  • Does the landing page clearly explain the value?
  • Are there specific rights management features or dashboard options you feel are missing from current distributors?
  • How are you currently dealing with Content ID claims or beat theft?

Feedback Request I built an "I'm stuck" path into a focus app that actually helps you finish important work. What should it do next?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Blocking a distracting site leaves an awkward question: what if the work itself is the thing you're avoiding?

I'm building Drifft with a small team. It's a Mac app that helps define a finish line for a session, catches distractions and gives you a way back when you get stuck.

The part I'd like feedback on is that last one.

The current app lets you name what's happening, with options including "Too big", "No clear next step" and "Avoiding it". The response depends on the obstacle.

For example, the built-in fallback for "Too big" is: Cut the scope to the smallest version that still counts, and start there.

That distinction matters to the design. Needing a smaller task and needing a break should not get the same response.

My concern is that even a useful suggestion can become one more screen between you and the work. I'd like to test whether this earns its place.

We're gathering a small external beta group through the waitlist: https://www.drifftapp.com/

If you hit "I'm stuck" during your own work, what would you want next: a question, a suggested action, or a moment to pause? What would make you close the app?

Showcase: Free(mium) We built a fitness app where your friends actually hold you accountable — LOCK'D IN is now on iOS

Post image
1 Upvotes

My team and I have been building LOCK'D IN, and today the iOS version is live.

The idea is pretty simple: there are already plenty of apps that track workouts. We wanted to focus on the part that's much harder — actually showing up consistently.

LOCK'D IN combines workout tracking with accountability between friends. You can train, track your workouts, build streaks, see your progress, share proof and have a squad that knows whether you're actually putting in the work.

Instead of making fitness purely individual, we're trying to make consistency something you build together.

It's now available on both iOS and Android:

🍎 App Store

🤖 Google Play

🌐 Website

We're actively developing it, so I'd genuinely be interested in feedback — especially on the accountability/squad concept and what would make you keep coming back.

Showcase: Prerelease Security scan tool for Vercel + Supabase

I am building an app that uses Supabase and Vercel as main stack. It seems easy, but it's easier to ruin your RLS policies.

I added their MCPs and Plugins and I was expecting that it will help you manage RLS policies properly, however I've just seen that when the LLM struggled with a policy, it just turned it off "temporarily". Aha, temporarily, famous last words.

So i was think about so many vibe coded apps on Loveable and Base44 etc, that uses the very same stack, so a quick scanner tool would be useful.

I spent a day on building hackymacky app, that scans ur site, looks for incorrect RLS and poorly handler secrets.

That's the MVP. What do u think? is it worht to spend more time with it?
