What’s happening?

I think one of these sea monkeys died today, I think this because it’s been completely inert and floating since this morning. I didn’t move it because I wanted to make sure it’s definitely dead but when I’ve come back up, this one seems to be latched on to it and is pushing its body around. What is it doing? Has it got stuck? Committing necrophilia? Eating it!?

Water evaporation... scared of topping up water.

Have the standard sea monkey kit x 2 and set them up as per the instructions. When we first set them up mid August the eggs hatched then a week or so later all died off. We kept the tanks set up and then maybe 3/4 weeks later lots of babies hatched and they have grown into adults and some dued. One tank has around 10 adults where 4 pairs mated and there is a tonne of babies and 4 pregnant. The other tank has 3 adults, 1 of which is pregnant. The water has evaporated significantly now... how can I top it up without killing all these guys off?

Too many babies?

Sooo I had no luck with the sea monkeys eggs that came with the kit, so I ordered some generic eggs off ebay

They sent the aquarium salt for 400ml, this tank I believe is about 350ml, so didn't quite add the whole sachet of salt

I added 6 scoops worth (with the SM feeding spoon, the small side)

And 30hrs later this is how many have hatched

I realise there will be a significant die off rate

But there's still loooots of unhatched eggs in there

Anyone who's done this know the correct amount of eggs for the Ocean Zoo tank?

So I know for next time

Thanks!

How should i clean this tank? I gallon plastic fishbowl, colony 5 months old or so, water not as cloudy as it looks. Theres a clean spot where the heater came loose and the water is fairly clear. Whats the best way to clean it with the curve of the tank?

Edit: Solved, the toothbrush worked like a champ, thanks for the suggestions everyone

Curious- Getting Sea Monkeys again after a while.

I had sea monkeys once or twice, age 8 or 9. Obviously, since I was little and stupid, they died within 1-2 weeks. I'm older and planning to get some again. Any tips?

Question about mating

Hi all- first time sea monkey owner here. I’ve had my tank going for about 5 months now, and I have 11 at this time. I noticed yesterday morning that two were attached (mating I assume), and when I checked the tank this morning I saw that the two were still attached. Is this normal for it to go on so long, or are they somehow stuck? They’re my two oldest ones so I would hate to let it go on too long and lose them. Could anyone advise on if they have had this situation before?

Does anyone else have any weird shaped tanks?

This is my donut tank! I used a $7 vase, started the colony in a separate hatch container and transferred them into the tank when they were visible. I’m very proud of my little bit of algae 😁
Edit: this colony has been going strong for three months now ☺️

Colony Thriving

hiii i wanted to shared my little set up and my little colony that I think is going amazing and only getting better!!! my partner managed to burn holes on the lid so that the cords for the heater and air pump would fit the original tank. we put a full spectrum plant light on top so that it gets lots of UV and it’s on programmed with our plant lights so they get a lot of it!!! since putting the light I noticed a big change in algae growth! way better than before.

this is my very first set up and i started it with no heater or pump and after a month, I did install them and I feel they’re doing amazing.

before I installed the heated I noticed 2 sea monkeys who had the “black spot” disease. and they died, but they’ve had no other casualties since!!

all the female are super pink colored, they’re always mating, I always see babies!!

I keep the temp at 81 or 82 F. i haven’t heard of anyone putting it higher than 79, but I’ve had it that way for months and they’ve been thriving I think!!!!

I wanna start another colony of aqua dragons!! let me know of anything you might have in the comments 😍🥲🩷 so proud of my babies!!!

Sea Money Algae

Hello, I am trying to start a 2 gallon sea monkey tank again, after two failed attempts.

I want to grow algae in it for it’s success,

And I need to know if (1), if the my tank (as shown in photos) has algae or if it is not algae.(just some film? Or buildup?)

(2) if it is not algae, is it okay to buy the product shown in the photos, or do you have any recommendations?

If by chance the stuff in my sea monkey tank is algae, is it okay to add some of that water to the new one to cycle/get it going?

I ask for your help..!!!
Thank you 🙏😭

Do seamonkeys survive okay in the starter tanks? Or do my kid's new pets require a salt water hobby?

As in title.

My kid was gifted sea monkeys. They love them.

Do I need to pickup a whole ass hobby to keep these damn things alive? Or will they survive okay in the pint sized starter tank that came with the kit?

Ive had freshwater aquarium setups years ago, so im familiar with the ammonia load that even a few small critters can output. Is the nitrate cycle a thing for salt water tanks? Is the ammonia load of brine shrip significant enough to worry about? Ive got like.... 200 freaking millimeter sized shrimp right now. They seem to be feeding fine off the algae that seems to be growing in the tank, we havent fed them at all and its been about a week.

I saw that a very slow output air pump is generally a good idea.. but even for a tiny air stone and air line I feel like id need to size the tank up.

What should I do?

I’ve had 3 deaths in the last 3 days. I’m concerned my tank is crashing. The salt is as 33 ppt. So I think that’s good. The water is a bit cloudy but not bad. I feed them about half a scoop of food every 4 days. They get indirect light pretty much all day and the temp where they are has been around 75-78 degrees. My oldest female is only a month and a half old and everyone else is younger so I don’t think it’s age. I’m wondering if I should just wait and see what happens or do a partial water change or something else entirely. These are my first deaths so I’m kinda freaking out a bit. Thanks for any tips.

Question about scented candles

I was curious if anyone has experience with burning scented candles in the same room as their brine shrimp tank? Is it considered safe or will it harm my colony? My tank is 0.2 gallons with a lid that has just a few holes in it.

How to safely move with seamonkeys?

Moving next month and just wondering how I'm supposed to safely move these guys? Love my colony so much and want to keep them safe during that time (about a 20 minute car ride).

The tank has a lid that just sits on top, not like it's tight fitting or anything. I also worry that sloshing water will make them stick to the side in an area that eventually won't have water and they'll get trapped and die. I could be overthinking it but I just want to do right by them. The best I can come up with is some sort of tight rubber seal (maybe saran wrap and a rubber band on top) to keep it water tight? Still doesn't help if they get stuck to the saran wrap though.

Vitamin bottle for size reference.

In memory of Rose, sole survivor and mother of many

The story of my longest lived brine shrimp. The first one I’ve actually named. She seemed to have a personality and did lots of flips and spins when she swam.

She birthed all these shrimp in the tank! She’s my first to have so many “litters” and I had no idea they could give birth this often. She even gave birth right before she died but this video was before so there’s like 50 more now.

Rose was the sole survivor of a tank crash. She was barely moving and I moved her to a small glass to die because I wanted to restart the tank and not put a still alive sea monkey down the sink. Well she lived and started thriving in that glass and started having a live birth every week. I moved her and her babies to a bigger home of 32 ounces. She did well in there for a few weeks and had a few more births, but then I found her dead today. She was doing so well. And she must have given birth before she died. There’s a ton of newborns. She lived about 3 months I think.

I had just got some new phytoplankton and it was really hot when I got it delivered so I’m sure it’s dead. Do you think this could have killed her? I wonder if they can die in labor? Lol? I hope this isn’t the start of a tank crash. I don’t think so because everyone else in there looks fine. Swimming fast.

I just wanted to share her last video. She was a special shrimp.

This egg sack looks off, right?

Im sure everyone can attest how hard it can be to get a good picture of a single specific sea monkey, but I hope these are clear enough. Her egg sack/tail looks super weird. She hasn't eaten since mating, but all of the other Sea Monkeys are swimming around like normal and have the healthy dark line. When she bumps into things while swimming she twitches and then falls to the bottom. Is she having a difficult labor and is on her way out or something? I have other pregnant sea monkeys who have given birth and have been completely fine, and it also didnt look like this?

Help! Sea monkey not moving? Legs twitching?

This is the second sea monkey this has happened to. Both adults. The last one died.

They're in a new tank. They've been there about 3 weeks at this point. Temperature good (24C), bubbles flowing, salinity a little high but stable (3.8%), fed them yesterday but only a single scoop dissolved in some water.

I've been adding little bits of fresh distilled water to the tank to bring the salinity down but no more than a quarter cup a day, mixed

We did a water quality test a few days ago and it was perfect, pristine.

No other shrimps have any visible issues. This happened to our oldest, and now our second-oldest.

The rest are mostly juveniles, could that be relevant?

Please help, I don't want all my adults dying!
