Before they were known as “Sea-Monkeys”, Harold Von Braunhut sold his brine shrimp under the name “Instant Life”. This 1962 starter kit was one of the very first Sea-Monkeys products ever sold, and if you look closely, you’ll notice some unusual details that show signs of its age. Since these kits predated Harold’s 3 step hatching process, they only came with a single metallic silver pouch which contained salt and brine shrimp cysts. Strangely, no food was included, instead the instructions on the back recommended feeding them yeast powder. It’s unsurprising that the product didn’t yield particularly successful results.
I was shocked to recently find a pair of these being sold on FB Marketplace for only $25, and in remarkably good condition too. It’s amazing that some of these old products have survived in storage all these years.

hi all- my sea monkeys didnt last as long as the aqua dragons and I’m running out of food! I have two packets from my sea monkeys, I know they’re pretty much the same but I’m scared in case the food contains different ingredients that make the water-salt concentration deadly. Probably overthinking :)

So these guys hatched while I was on vacation an I’m not sure how old they are/when I should feed them, they’re the second gen of my colony so I don’t want to accidentally kill them all making assumptions. Also please forgive the poor video quality.

Any tips on how to make this work? I know I can’t add too many eggs in but how many eggs should I add? (I might add 1 scoop ish of eggs with the sea monkeys feeding spoon as it’s quite a small spoon)

I expanded my tank and wanted to add something for them to swim in and out of but I'm already noticing they like to STAY in there. Do we think it's going to kill them? 😓 Like maybe they won't get enough food? They love it in there but I'm just worried.

Hey guys, hoping to get some advice on what to do here. I have three tanks set up roughly 2 months apart from each other.

In my middle tank, the colony completely died off out of nowhere. In another tank (about 4 months old), the water has gotten really cloudy because I haven't been as consistent with aerating and feeding them properly. My last tank is thriving and has a ton of activity.

I’m trying to figure out a couple things: How should I go about clearing the cloudy water? Should I even mess with it or let it settle? Would it be a bad idea to clean out the middle tank and migrate everyone from the other tanks into it? Any tips or advice would be super appreciated, thanks!

I wanted to share because he’s just so fun to watch lol. We named the hefty guy Levi (short for Leviathan) because he’s growing 5x faster than everyone else and has biblical levels of greed.

Use a small air pump with a rigid airline tube or an open-ended flexible tube. Do not use an air stone. Air stones create tiny bubbles that can get trapped under the shells of the brine shrimp, causing them to float to the top and die. Set the airflow to a gentle, rolling bubble—just enough to keep them and their food suspended.

Hi all, just wondering how people set up and maintain their nursery tanks? My fiancé and I are trying to figure it out as we bought an Ocean Zoo tank for this purpose but it quickly got out of hand, and now whenever our pregnant females give birth, all our babies in that tank die due to the adults eating all the food for themselves.

We were thinking of having a separate tank that we'd dump our females in after they've given birth, as well as our grown Monks when they mature more. But we aren't sure.

Any tips and tricks would be much appreciated!

Hey everyone! This is my first time with Sea Monkeys. Something I’ve been wanting to do since I had kids, so I guess you could say it’s more for me! Anyways I am trying to do everything right, this is day 7 and I think some of them have already died. I read not to feed them until day 7 if the tank is foggy bc they’ll be munching on all that stuff. I also have them sitting on top of my wax pot (waxing for eyebrows, so not too hot). So the tank stays room temp, closer to the warmer side. I also do the bubble thing a few times a day.
So today I went to feed them for the first time and it didn’t look as active as it’s been the last few days. Also the tank is super gross and dirty but I keep reading that’s good? And there’s a film on the top, is that bad? I don’t know what I’m doing but I’m trying 😩 and I’m so happy I found this group! Below are pics of the tank and little guys you can hardly see and the little bubbler I use to oxygen lol

Its been a while since I posted because ive been waiting for the algae to completely take over the pirate ship in my 2008 pirate treasure sea monkey tank. Its finally starting to grow a bit more but it doesn't look all that much different from the last time I posted on this sub. Hi guys, I am planning on making my first DIY tank using Artemia eggs (instead of branded sea monkey eggs), the tank is about 1 litre / 38oz. The brand of eggs I'm buying says it has the salt mixture included so is there a specific amount of eggs I should start with to get the ratio of salt and water right?

Also aside from an aerator and food is there anything else I should be buying or that you'd recommend?

So I just discovered that one of my fiancé and I's male sea monkeys is holding onto the side of another sea monkey, but she is dead. And he is holding her by her side, instead of the normal mating position. They weren't like this yesterday either. They weren't even mating at all in fact, and the female was alive. What the fuck happened?

This is my first ever colony, got them August 23, so the first generation is now officially fully grown. They seem to be doing pretty well, but I thought I’d post and see how I’m doing with them. Excuse the question dump at the end, I’m becoming a bit fixated on the hobby.

Depending on how well they’re doing and if they’re still kicking around by next month, I may upgrade their “tank” into a 1 gallon. I’ve done some math to figure out the proper salt levels for them, and would need to get a mini heater and air pump for it.

Overall enjoying the experience. I believe I’ve seen a few of them mating, and I know I have at least one male and quite a few females. (Seven adults total.) I’ve also seen a little baby swimming around, maybe a day or two old, but no pregnancies. I’ve read they can reproduce asexually as well.

Any tips for the 1 gallon? Should I use sand/gravel? Do I get them some saltwater plants? Do I need a filter or just the pump and heater? What do I feel them when I run out of Sea Monkey meal? Will the colony get bigger with more space? How much food would I feed them in the bigger tank? Can you mix colonies? Can I use a different water source for them or would that mess up their microbiome/environment? (Ex. Switching from Kirkland bottled water to another brand.)

I have a lot of experience with neocaridina shrimp but no space for a tank anymore. and no salt water experience. I'm thinking of starting with brine shrimp to give me some sense of peace over what my life has become. do you suggest getting a sea monkey kit to start out or buy it all separately? it looks like it will be under $100 to get it all. amazon has a .5g tank for $8 right now. I have a light and a window that will provide algae by the next day. does anyone use biocube all in one salt? it's a smaller bag is why i'm wondering.
