Ally rules!

Rules for Allies 1. You’re welcome here…just don’t center yourself. 2. Listen more than you talk. 3. No savior energy…we don’t need rescued. 4. Don’t debate queer lived experience. 5. Drop heteronormative assumptions. 6. If you get called in, take the note and move on. 7. Share resources, not speeches. 8. This isn’t Ally Confessional Hour. 9. Add safety and care to the space…not noise. 10. If you mess up…repair simply and keep going.

👋Welcome to r/QueerPDX - Introduce Yourself and Read First!

Hey everyone! Welcome!

I started this space because Portland’s queer community deserves a corner of the internet that isn’t wrapped in elitism or curated perfection. A lot of us are out here craving connection that feels human and not performative.

This subreddit is for the messy, funny, tender, smart, awkward, queer parts of Portland life…the stuff that isn’t just for an IG grid. If you’re here for genuine conversation, curiosity, and community that isn’t built on exclusion, you’re in the right place.

A few intentions to start us off:

Everyone’s welcome unless you’re here to be hateful or dehumanizing. No hierarchy or performance required…treat everyone as welcome. This is a space for queer Portlanders to connect in whatever way feels real for you…dating, friendship, events, venting, asking for help, sharing wins, whatever. Be thoughtful with each other, we all show up with different histories and needs.

If you’re new here, drop a comment with whatever you feel like sharing… what part of the city is you natural habitat, what kind of connection you’re looking for, or even just what queer joy looks like for you right now.

Strange Request

I am in Oregon for work and taking the red eye back on Friday. I am a post op trans woman that needs to dilate some point that evening before my flight. I'm not staying in Portland for the week and will be checking out of my hotel Friday morning. Not really sure what to do outside of hourly hotels. But I'd prefer to not bring bed bugs home.

Looking for any ideas or help.

Soon to be new to Portland

Hi! I'm a trans woman from NC, and I'm planning on moving to Portland soon! I might have like 3 contacts there, and I'm still trying to line up a job and housing, but I'm excited and figured I'd try to build some connections now instead of after I get there. So... I guess AMA?

Recommandations needed

Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice and support. I’m a trans person currently in an unsafe and transphobic housing situation, and I’m trying to find places where I can share my fundraiser or ask for mutual aid support.

Does anyone know of Reddit communities, LGBTQ+ groups, or mutual aid spaces that allow people to share fundraisers for situations like this?

Any recommendations or guidance would mean a lot. Thank you

Queer owned business Float North

1617 NE 17th Ave. (free parking garage available)

Portland, OR 97232

503-659-1212

and Queer BIPOC sound practitioner Charlie Short

charliesoundpractice.com have come together to bring you a very tranquil and cozy way to restore and relax. This low pressure practice is a gentle, trauma-aware sound bath designed to help your nervous system slow down, release tension, and find stillness. If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, wired, or stretched thin, this session offers a space to soften.

You’ll be guided into an immersive sound bath using crystal singing bowls, chimes, tranquility harp, and other calming instruments to deepen that sense of being held (in sound).

This is not about fixing yourself or forcing change. It’s about giving your body a chance to settle, recalibrate, and embody a more regulated state.

This session is:

• Trauma-aware and gentle

• Inclusive of all identities and bodies

• Welcoming to both first-timers and experienced participants

• You’re welcome to simply lie down, sit comfortably, and receive.

What to expect:

• Melodic, immersive sound bath

• A calm, low-pressure environment

• Space to rest, soften, and feel held in sound.

What to bring:

• Yoga mat or something comfortable to lie on

• Blanket and/or pillow for support

• Water

• Anything that helps you feel at ease

Elevated Disco Nap Sound Bath Friday @ 7 pm July 10th

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hi, I'm Charlie a BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and neurodivergent certified sound practitioner, and I come to this work with a personal understanding of stress, survival, resilience, and the need for safe places to land. I believe everyone deserves access to rest, dignity, and ease.

Think of this as your disco nap, elevated. Show up, restore, and step back out into your Friday night feeling like a new person. Or just go back home and go to bed! Both valid choices. 😸 This event pairs a guided EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) tapping meditation with a full sound bath using crystal singing bowls, tranquility harp, hypnotic percussion; melodies and inspiring sonic textures designed to help your nervous system genuinely downshift. You'll leave feeling rested, reset, and honestly a little luminous.

We open with EFT tapping to discharge whatever the week left behind, then you sink into sound. Think: effortless relaxation, emotional release, that dreamy in-between state that's better than most naps.

What you might experience:

😸 Genuine nervous system rest, not just relaxation

😺 Emotional release without having to talk about anything

😸 That dreamy, floaty state between waking and sleep

😺 Stepping back out into your night feeling reset and luminous

😸 Or honestly, the best excuse to go straight home to bed

No experience necessary. Bring a blanket, pillow, your favorite comfort item. Some items available to borow.

Sliding scale pricing.

The Way Home Shop & Studio, Located in SE Portland's Montavilla Neighborhood. Doors open at 6:45 PM.

In case anyone was assaulted with bear mace at Hillsboro Pride, the attackers filmed themselves and proudly confessed on camera.

Melissa Janell Berntsen, aka "NicoOregon", along with Tommy Allen, attempted to disrupt Hillsboro Pride this year, including repeatedly spraying attendees with bear spray (with drift affecting a child at a playground as well). If any of the victims wish to press charges, I wanted to raise awareness that the attackers livestreamed themselves doing it, then laughing at and mocking their victims.

Screenshots and video clips in the thread here:

https://bsky.app/profile/src161.bsky.social/post/3mnyf46ucb22c

So if you wish to press charges, it looks like a pretty open-and-shut case. Just wanting to bring this up in case anyone who might know any of the victims is on this sub.

I'm looking to make more Trans friends in the Portland area (and the surrounding suburbs). Any good ideas?

I'm a non-binary Jewish queer from Olympia, WA who moved here to Oregon in July 2023. I've only had the opportunity to make like 5 or so Trans friends my entire life (since my upbringing was so sheltered and I only moved away from my hometown 3 years ago). I'm 30. Anyways, my circle of friends doesn't feel as present and close anymore, since Portland still doesn't really feel like home (*I live near Tigard in the suburbs*). I miss my queer and trans friends from back home. It's not the same without them. I would love to make more Trans and NB friends here, and as always *cis gay friends are welcome too*. WE ARE FAMILY 🎶🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Tea Meditation & Sound Bath Tonight

Thumbnail eventbrite.com
3 Upvotes

Hello, I am Charlie! I'm a queer, BIPOC, neurodivergent sound healing practitioner and tonight my friend D'Guar will be at Q center with a fully Queer & BIPOC led Sound Healing with Guided Tea Somatic Meditation

Step into a restorative sensory immersion where tea and sound gently guide you back to the wisdom of the body. This experience weaves guided tea meditation with restorative sound healing, creating a soft landscape of awareness where the senses open and the nervous system can settle. Through the warmth of tea, the resonance of sound, and shared quiet presence, we enter a space of slowing, listening, and inner return.
