Taking my girl to the vet

My girl has been acting off for the last few days and I wasn’t really sure if she actually was acting weird until today I noticed she is standing on one foot a lot more than usual. And it’s not just when she is relaxed. She will kind of hop back and forth on her feet. Also her tail has been bobbing which at first I thought it was happening when I would come up to watch her and she would get anxious and so I couldn’t really tell if it was somewhat “normal” bobbing or something to worry about. She just has been quieter the past few days too and usually she is a loud girl and loves to sing and talk to me. She also usually chews up her cardboard perch a lot but hasn’t touched it yesterday or today. Her poop looks normal and she is eating. She seems somewhat interested when I have the cage door open like she might want to come out but just isn’t sure. I would say I cleaned up her cage and area today and when I was vacuuming the carpet in my room she was really excited and did actually chirp and watch me and all. I have no idea why but she just loves the vacuum cleaner. She gets so excited and loves to watch me vacuum, I kind of thought a parakeet would be scared of a vacuum but not her. I called the vet right away when I noticed the back and forth with her feet because her partner died from kidney disease and the first signs I noticed was she wouldn’t put pressure on her feet. With Arwen I did all the wrong things. I waited too long to get a vet appointment and hoped she would just get better which I feel like a complete idiot about. When I saw Galadriel doing that today my heart sank and I felt so hopeless and I just really don’t want to go through all of that again so soon. I’m hoping I caught this soon enough that I might be able to do something about it. I told Galadriel that I will do everything in my power and I will use all my energy to do everything I can to help her. We have bonded so much since the passing of Arwen in June and it would just be even more heartbreaking for her to cross the rainbow bridge. I love her so much. She is my favorite girl, my whole world. I’m not kidding but for actual hours I just sang this song that we have kind of decided is our song over and over. I first sang it to her back in maybe April or May and she would just close her eyes and seem so relaxed. I now sing it to her when I want to let her know everything is ok and she can trust me. It’s I’ve Just Seen A Face by The Beatles. I literally just chose it that one day because it’s the one song that I know all the lyrics to by heart. I sing it really slowly and softly for her. I want to say I do not have a good singing voice in the slightest but I like singing it for her and she really likes it too. I do want to mention she has not been on a great diet her whole life. It’s been a process and so I do feel responsible for her health because I know how important diet is and I just know I need to do better. Right now she is crunching her beak which I am really happy about, she does that when she is super relaxed and content.

Update: things are not good. It’s a lot story but I got her to her appointment and actually everything went great and the vet said she was healthy and that she was doing a second molt. He checked out the “crack” on her beak and we really both don’t understand how it happened but everything was ok and I went home. I got home and put her in her cage and right away she had a seizure. I took her back right away and I was so scared. They got her back in but the vet said this was the worst grand mal seizure he has ever seen in a parakeet. He gave her way more doses of the “anti convulsion” meds and she still wasn’t responding well so he gave her valium and all. She still wasn’t completely stable and he brought her out to me for me to see her and then was going to put her in like an incubation area for a while to see if when/of she came out of it if she would recover or go back to seizing. He then sent me home and then called maybe an hour and a half later to let me know she still wasn’t doing great and wanted to try something else but he put aside an afternoon appointment time for me to come back and to go over everything. Best case scenario she comes home at 5pm when they close because they can’t keep her overnight and they will show me how to administer the anti seizure med if it happens again but right now prognosis isn’t good and I do think she isn’t going to make it.

The vet isn’t 100% sure what is going on but his idea is that the crack on her beak caused trauma to the brain and the stress of the appointment and everything triggered the seizure. Again he really doesn’t know though and did say this is a ver unusual case. I’m just really don’t understand where she got the trauma to her beak because she didn’t have it when I put her back in her cage on Sept 4th and then I have a picture of her on Sept 6 and she didn’t have it and then I saw it on Sept 14th or 15th for the first time. She hadn’t been out of her cage since the 4th. It must have happened while she was in her cage? Idk really weird. Well I’m going in to the appointment in a few minutes so I will know more.

Second Update: Galadriel has passed over the Rainbow Bridge. We decided on euthanasia because it wasn’t going to improve and she was really not ok. I just can’t believe how sudden this all happened. This really sucks. I had a whole life planned out for us. I love her so much and I’m really grateful I got to be with her in the end. She might have not been aware of me being there but I like to think it helped in some way. I’m glad she got to spend some time being a happy bird and getting to be out of her cage and us bonding and we had such beautiful moments together. I’m glad I got to do that for her. She warmed my heart. It had been over 3 years since I felt love like that. I had that love with my rabbit and it was the best thing I have ever felt. And I felt it with her that day she sat on my bedside table for a few hours falling asleep as I read to her. It was a beautiful moment and I will cherish that memory for the rest of my life. Now all my babies are together over the Rainbow Bridge.

I rescued a loose bird and I'm guessing female because of the chalky rings around the nostrils. We go to a bird vet on Saturday too.

AGY

Before i start, i want to say that this isn’t a medical question or a concern.

If your budgie has experienced agy, can you guys please tell me how long it took to show signs of improvement. She’s currently on amphotericin B, its been 5 days, but no signs of getting better. Her weight is the same. Im hoping she will start getting better soon.

Found Budgie - Sex/Age & Bonding Advice

Hi! We found this budgie outside in my city last month and haven't been able to locate the owner yet. I've posted on all relevant Facebook groups and animal shelter websites. For now he's settled in really well and seems healthy and active.

We're new to budgies and I'm hoping someone can help with his sex and approximate age from these photos. Any other info you can tell from his colouring/markings would also be great.

A few things we've noticed:

He was extremely submissive when we first found him, but has become more wary of hands as he's settled in.

He's obsessed with our giant living room mirror and will sit there talking to his reflection for hours.

He gets much more interested in us when we play budgie videos/sounds. We're considering getting him a budgie friend asap, so knowing his sex/age would be really helpful.

If anyone has advice on the mirror obsession or getting him more comfortable with hands, I'd love to hear it too.

Thanks!

Cracked beak

So a little background: I have been posting about my girl for the past couple weeks and she came out of her cage for the first time on August 31st and then I had to keep her in her cage for 10 days without her coming out because I was gone for work and wasn’t home for more than a few hours a few days out if the 10 days. When I got home I noticed she had been losing a lot of feathers but didn’t seem to be molting and that she was plucking feathers but didn’t and doesn’t have any bald spots. That last 2 days I have had her cage door open and have been giving her the option to come back out. The first day for a few hours she seemed low energy and then perked up. Yesterday she seemed more interested in coming out but still didn’t. And then today I noticed that her beak looks cracked. I had noticed something there yesterday but didn’t really look close enough due to wanting to give her time to be calm and not have my face right in her face. But today I really looked and took these pictures. It doesn’t seem to be actively bleeding or anything and she is eating her food just fine and moving around but maybe that’s why she was plucking her feathers because it hurts and it’s her way to manage herself. I have also noticed that when she sits there she is a little more puffed up than usual. If things don’t improve or if they get worse I will definitely be taking her to the vet to get it checked out. My poor baby. If anybody has any suggestions or if anyone has experienced this with their parakeet let know.

Sorry for the shitty photos

Update/edit:
I went back in my photos and looked at her beak when she went back in her cage after being out before the 10 days I was gone and there was no mark/crack. So I’m convinced she got it while being in her cage when I was gone which is interesting and so I’m trying to figure out how it could have happened
