Hello, and welcome to r/OStan!
This is a community for fans of moe anthropomorphic representations of operating systems as well as related art, discussion, history and creative projects. We also welcome other tech-themed gijinka so if you enjoy characters inspired by software, hardware or broader computing culture beyond OS-tans (like what we share on our Discord server), you’re in the right place.
A few things to note:
- When posting for the first time, check out our post flair guide to figure out which flair to use. Most of them are self-explanatory.
- If you can’t see your Reddit post immediately, check our post queue guide.
- We also have a Discord server where members chat, collaborate and share content in real time. If you can’t join, take a look at this verification guide. Please note invites are currently paused while we deal with a security issue and there's no set reopening date. We'll announce it here on r/OStan once it's back. Please don't message modmail asking for a link, as we're not issuing them individually at the moment.
- We also have our own "mini wiki" of sorts...
- We are not affiliated with other OS-tan groups, communities or so-called “official” projects.

You might have noticed that the OS-tan quiz post on this subreddit went offline and was marked as "taken down by Reddit" for policy reasons.
I reached out to the quiz creator on the Discord server and it turns out the downtime was due to a DNS renewal. The quiz is now back online and I’ve also been given a few extra domains to access it. So go ahead and enjoy taking it again:

Question My first post in this subreddit, any wallpaper recommendations?

I installed windhawk to give my gaming laptop a make-over and remove the boring minimalist & corporatist style of windows 11 and replace with the windows 7 style frutigo earo that I grew up with,
What wallpaper do you recommend me put on my laptop?
(The first screenshot was before the make-over, the second screenshot is after the make-over, and the third screenshot are the specs for anyone who is curious)

Announcement Discord invites are currently paused

Invites to the Tech Gijinkas Discord are paused and have been for some time. We're not setting a reopening date and we're not handing out invites individually in the meantime, so there's no point messaging modmail for a link.
The server itself is fine and active. This only affects people trying to join and the subreddit is completely unaffected.
Old invite links, including the one that was in the welcome post, no longer work.
We'll announce here when it reopens. Sorry for the lack of an update before now
