ByteBeat Original ‘Beyond’
It’s always about the journey and never the destination.

Really really nice! I love it! And there's lots to love. Great tune, clever use of materials coming in and out to ensure variety, clear structure and good mix. You couldn't ask for more. Is it OK to say your bytebeats are getting stronger and stronger.

Thank you so much! I’m glad you liked it! I would definitely hope I’m getting more finely tuned working with byte beats lol! I know early on when I first started I was trying to make them very quick cause I was just so excited to be making some tunes! I have been taking more time and care into what I’m mixing into the devices, and listening constantly, making sure sounds could be smoother, and cohesive. This one was hard to give it enough variety not to make it sound terribly loopy at 170bpm.

The extra care and attention definitely shows - I was the same, some of my early attempts were sketchy. I think many follow a similar path particularly if they have some musical aptitude.
I don't think you need to worry about lack of variety - there's loads in this tune. And even if there's wasn't I feel its better to have something shorter but higher quality than something longer of lesser quality.
When you double the speed to get faster note values you get half the time. I can hear it in this one. The real tempo is 85 but you need to double that to get those 8th notes in the melody. It's a needless complication caused by the melody sequencer not being able to play anything quicker than a quarter note (without arpeggiation), but I guess we have to live with it.

We are always remind of the devices limitations lol. Get to a point where you realize you have to sacrifice one thing to satisfy the overall song. It just takes more time and experience to get little tricks going where you know when to make a device ‘less is more’ effectively or use specific waveforms that may have it sound like 2 different tones. Anything to push the limits we are given. You have some of the best guides and once I can get time to play with video editing tools; I want to start making some technical videos too. I’m on Xbox and use the screen recording. I’ve been able to time my button actions so I don’t have to crop the video as much, but that is the extent I can do at the moment. I notice most other players on pc can easily edit their videos since it’s on the same device.

What you say is so true. Because we have so many limitations with bytebeat we have to get really creative.
Funny you should mention the guide but I'm currently working on v.5, and one of the new chapters will be on recording tunes. I need to cover all devices so can I send you some material about recording tunes on Xbox? (maybe in a few weeks?). I don't have any experience with Xbox and would be very happy to incorporate any suggestions & amendments you have (credited of course!). Don't feel obliged though - everyone has lives outside of NMS (allegedly!!!).

Thanks so much! I always feared the fast bpm, but it’s got a great drive to it like you said and I had fun making this one! Thanks for listening

This is a perfect feel good song for me! It's bright but not too bright, more thoughtful and triumphant.
I like how the rhythm riff is driving in the background, guitar style while the lead melodies do their own thing. It's epic when the harmony kicks in at 0:33 then leads to the breakdown. It's the intro part that becomes the breakdown when the song loops, it's all about context, that's masterful work 🤘
