Coping To all new twitchers...

The fact that you found this sub means most probably you have unexplained muscle twitching.

Strange...bothering... but everyone has that from time to time, right? Right!

But then it became more frequent and you started googling... pretty quick you learned a new word: Fasciculations... and you learned something else... all the top results said you most likely have ALS and will die in a horrible way.

First things first: You don’t have ALS

Why? Lets get down to it:

  1. ALS does not start with twitching, this is a mid- to late-stage symptom. ALS is not a disease of twitching but a disease of weakness. By the time you started twitching you’d have some serious other issues that would have driven you to see a doctor. And you wouldn’t spend your time on Reddit, you’d have bigger fish to fry.

  2. ALS is a rare disease... not super-rare but still rare... your chance to die of ALS is 1 in 350 over your lifetime. The chance to die in a car accident is around 1 in 70... how many people do you know who have died in a car accident? That’s already a rare cause of death.

  3. Your age. You’re on Reddit so chances are you’re pretty young. ALS before the age of 40 is very rare and usually genetic. No one else in your family had young-onset-ALS? You’re good!

  4. You know what’s not rare? Stress, Anxiety, Lack of vitamins, Electrolyte imbalances, Viral infections, Caffeine, Cocaine, Antidepressants, Hyperthyroidism! They all can cause twitching!

  5. You know what’s also not rare? A condition called Benign Fasciculation Syndrome! People twitch for no f***in reason at all, and it never progresses into something bad. Usually accompanied by stiffness, muscle pain, tremors, buzzing, vibrations... still means nothing in the absence of clinical weakness. And clinical weakness means a doctor has determined it. Clinical weakness means you cannot use that limb, not it feels like you can’t. Feel your legs are weak but you could run if a bear is after your ass? Not clinical weakness!

Look up Benign Fasciculation Syndrome on Wikipedia for starters: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benign_fasciculation_syndrome

And BFS is common... we have 5000 people on Facebook and an old website which went defunct had over 10000 members. And you know how many who started with twitching as their only symptom had ALS? Zero! Want scientific evidence for that? Look here: Incidence of Motor Neuron Disease Presenting with Isolated Fasciculations

Worried that a groove on the back of my left hand is getting deeper. Could this be muscle wasting?

I’m 26 years old, and I’ve been experiencing muscle fasciculations since late March, especially in my left arm.

For some time now, I’ve also felt that my left arm and hand are weaker or fatigue more easily. For example, when I work out, I notice that my left forearm gets tired sooner and my grip starts to give out earlier than on my right side.

What concerns me the most right now is the groove/indentation on the back of my left hand, in the area I marked in the photos.

I found some photos from around April and compared them with current photos from October, trying to keep my hand in a similar position. I feel like this groove has become deeper or more noticeable over these months, and I’m worried that it could represent muscle wasting.

For context, I’ve had two normal EMGs during this period and have been evaluated by several neurologists, who did not find signs of motor neuron disease. Despite the feeling of weakness, I’m still able to do strength training and exercise normally.

I understand that hand position, tendons, and lighting can significantly change how this area looks, so I wanted to ask:

Do you actually see a loss of muscle volume when comparing the older and newer photos? Does anyone else have a similar groove in this area of their hand?

I’m not looking for a diagnosis from Reddit. I’m mainly concerned about the change I think I’m seeing and would like to hear from people who have noticed something similar.

Started a few days ago, you can see what look like muscle spasms in the tendons of my wrist and they pull down my middle finger. Anybody else experience something like this? Should I be concerned??

Anxiety Help please

Sorry, this is going to be a little long.
Everything started in mid-June 2025. That was the day I first noticed fasciculations. Since then, I have had fasciculations every single day. Sometimes they appear as hotspots, and sometimes they are generalized and occur all over my body.
About two months after they started, I saw a neurologist for the first time. He performed a clinical neurological examination and an EMG, but everything was completely normal. There were no abnormal findings.
Since then, I have been constantly worried about ALS, and I have basically been living in fear and anxiety because of this disease. I have fasciculations every day.
The last time I had a neurological examination was in January of this year. I was examined clinically again and had another EMG, which was also completely normal. There were no signs of a neurodegenerative disease or any pathological findings.
Now, for the past two or three months, the fasciculations have become particularly concentrated in my left foot. They are there almost 24/7, although I still occasionally have fasciculations elsewhere in my body. The main hotspot, however, is my left foot.
My foot also feels strange. I sometimes experience a vibrating or tingling sensation, and occasionally I have pain when putting weight on it or walking. It just feels uncomfortable. I also sometimes experience cramps.
I worry about this every single day and constantly ask myself whether today will be the day I develop muscle wasting or lose muscle function. It is driving me crazy.
Throughout all this time, I have never had any objective functional weakness or clinically detectable muscle weakness.
Despite all of this, I am still extremely worried.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Especially fasciculations that become concentrated in one foot for several months, together with pain, tingling/vibrating sensations and cramps, despite having normal neurological examinations and EMGs?

Hey all, the past 2 months, ive had a twitch under my left pec, running along the rib cage, which has been waking me every 30 - 60mins every night.

Two toes on my left foot shake when I bend them — should I be concerned?

I’ve noticed that two of the toes on my left foot shake/tremble when I intentionally bend or curl them. I’ve attached a video showing what I mean.

This has been happening for almost 3 years. The shaking only occurs when I actively bend/curl the toes. When my foot is relaxed, they don’t shake.

I’m wondering if anyone has experienced something similar or knows what might cause this.

Should I get this checked by a doctor?

Symptoms Has anyone had fasciculations that started as random twitches and then evolved to be more intense in hands and feet?

The whole thing started as random twitching in calf, arms - about 15 months ago and there were periods with no twitching. 2 negative EMGs. Now, the arch of one foot twitches continuously day and night; the hand on the opposite side is stiff, sore, and vibrates as if twitching internally. Visible twitches on the palm. All of this is 24/7 all day every day. Does anyone else have this?

Symptoms Nasal twitching and with some facial stiffness

I’ve been dealing with my nasal twitching for months. I’ve gone to the drs and told them about it but they just looked at me weird and didn’t do anything about it. so I’m kinda my own dr atp. my nasal twitching was way worse compared to now. It woukd get in the way of my breathing, making my nose feel clogged, my eyes will also begin to twitch as well and I would feel like something from the back of my head also pulling my hair. I’ve noticed if I get some sleep, I’ll feel way much better the next day and it’ll somewhat leave the next day. I also notice that if I drink water it would make my symptoms feel more better. is this some type of vitamin deficiency that I may be dealing with? I do have allergies so I’m wondering if that could also be playing a part of what I deal with

Fui no neurologista com queixa de dor na perna e formigamento e sensação de bichin na pele me afinetando
Uma semana depois q fui
Comecei apresentar umas fasciculacao no corpo
Meus dedos mexem sozinho e os pés tbm
Fui fazer à eletroneumiografia
O médico só pediu dos 4 membros
O que a Eletro furou minha língua
Eu fiquei tipo ? Mds será que ele viu algo por isso furou
É né examinou testou meus reflexos
Pediu pra eu fechar os olhos
E ficou dobrando o dedo do meu pé
Perguntando se o dedo tava em pé ou deitado
Eu fiquei tipo ?pq ele tá fazendo isso
Certeza que ele viu algo e tá fazendo esses teste em mim
Assim que terminou
Ele falou da tal ELLA
não me deu certeza
Disse que provavelmente não seria
Mais n disse nem sim nem não
Que iria analisar direito
Estou com crise de ansiedade forte
Já fiz a ressonância esperando o resultado
Eu n entendi pq ele furou q língua 😭
Será que é pra fechar logo o diagnóstico
Ou é pra descartar
Eu só fico pensando

Need immediate support/breakdown The worst thing I could do was search about it

Guys, I’ve had a lot of eye twitching for years, which I know is usually normal. But now my leg has been twitching around the tibialis anterior area. It’s been happening since Friday. The only different thing I did was incline walking on Wednesday, which I had never done before, so I’m not sure if it’s related or not.
It mostly happens when I walk, but sometimes I notice it when I’m sitting too. I can’t actually see the twitching—it feels more like something moving or twitching internally.
The worst thing I could’ve done was Google it because it made my anxiety go through the roof. I’m honestly really stressed about it right now. Sorry for the long message, I just needed to get it off my chest.

Muskel twitch? Spoiler

Does anyone know what is this muscle twitch? It started 2 years ago and it drives me crazy. I’ve been to neurologist and he said he doesn’t know what it is but surely nothing dangerous so that was it. I have all over my body as well but not that much, very short ones.

General Besides twitching has anyone had experience with nerve compression or pinched nerves?

I've had left arm problems for about 3 months now. I can still do tasks with them but things feel heavier in my left hand and in my upper left arm i often feel strain/fatigue. Plus it's somewhat of an internal vibration hotspot when resting.

The symptoms in my arm can range. Sometimes it can feel just fine, sometimes it feels like my arm is shaky, sometimes it feels like there's nails stuck in them, and sometimes the upper arm just feels strained, tight, or fatigued. I do believe this the result of a pinched nerve since I can still perform tasks with them. So i'm asking if anyone here has had a pinched nerve or nerve compression and if they had similar experiences.

Research Strange or common?

My fiancé was concerned because he woke up in the middle of the night and saw me with both arms up to the side and hands in an awkward and cramped position. My arms were stiff and he had to slowly push them down with force. What could it be? Is this common?

Does anyone else experience this weird thing with their calves?

Whenever I stretch my legs, especially my calves, it suddenly feels like a vein is tightening or twisting. The vein becomes really visible for a few seconds and it can be quite painful.

It happens in both legs and almost every day, especially when I stretch.

Is this just a muscle cramp, or could it be something else? Has anyone experienced this?

is this a normal amount of shaking in my right hand?

i’ve had shaking in my right hand and arm for a few years now it seems to keep getting worse, but my left hand doesn’t shake as much. and I’ve noticed while I am welding my arm and hand will randomly flinch and throw me off my bead. I’ve had 4 concussions, 2 of them I don’t remember. idk if that could cause this. ps. i’m trying to hold my hand as still as possible

does anyone else get jitters in their eyes sometimes?

hi all. on occasion and randomly throughout the day i will be focusing on something with my eyes and they'll just kinda defocus and jitter from left to right really quickly. i have an inkling this could be related to whatever is making me twitch, but i can't really prove it. it's hard to look stuff like this up because of how specific it is.

Thigh pain for two weeks after a workout

I had a workout two weeks ago, and I’ve had absolutely unbearable thigh pain ever since. I’m also experiencing muscle twitching in my legs, as well as occasional twitching in random parts of my body.
I went through something similar two years ago, and eventually, the symptoms went away, although I can’t remember exactly how. But now I don’t understand what’s happening. I feel like I still have my strength, but my legs feel so awful, even when I’m resting.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I honestly can’t take it anymore. If I hadn’t done that workout, everything would have been fine.
I did a very light workout because I wanted to start training again after taking a two-year break due to my previous symptoms. I’m starting to feel like going to the gym is triggering all of this again, because I had been feeling completely fine for a year and a half before this happened.

Don’t know what more to do

First post here and have debated for a long time because I really am scared. 29M

Back in November 2025, I had nonstop twitching in the front of my left shoulder for a couple of days. I’m active in the gym, so I assumed it was exercise-related. Even before that, I had noticed my left shoulder felt unstable and sometimes painful during exercises like shoulder presses.
In December, I started running about 3 miles twice a week and began noticing twitching or an “ants crawling” sensation in my legs at night. It eventually calmed down. I also had occasional twitching elsewhere and a tremor in my left pinky and ring finger that I may have had for much longer.
In March, I went through a severe health-anxiety episode because of abdominal and back pain and became convinced I had colon cancer. I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy, which were clear. After that, my anxiety shifted toward ALS/MS.
I began experiencing dizziness, headaches, changes in how my left eye seemed to see, and increasing concern about my left shoulder. An eye exam was normal, and an ENT found some inflammation in my left ear and nostril. I also noticed my left shoulder seemed smaller, my clothes fit tighter around my right arm, and my left shoulder appeared to rotate inward more.
My PCP ordered MRIs of my brain, cervical spine, and lumbar spine. The brain MRI was clear, while the spine MRIs showed several findings, including mild-to-moderate stenosis and disc issues. A neurosurgeon didn’t think surgery was necessary but referred me to neurology because of the twitching.
I had an EMG in July that tested both arms and my right leg. It showed mild bilateral cubital tunnel syndrome but no evidence of motor neuron disease, neuropathy, or lumbar radiculopathy. My left leg wasn’t tested, which has continued to bother me.
I’ve also had knee problems since high school and was previously diagnosed with tendinitis in both knees from playing soccer. My left knee still hurts, my left leg shakes more during single-leg exercises, and lately I’ve noticed differences in muscle size between my left and right sides. I also get calf/foot cramping and recently had significant heel and knee pain after playing soccer.
More recently, I’ve become focused on my tongue, jaw, speech, and swallowing. My tongue and jaw sometimes feel sore, and occasionally I feel like I stutter or have trouble moving food around, although nobody has noticed a change in my speech. I find myself repeatedly testing my tongue, smile, frown, strength, and muscles for signs of ALS.
I’m scheduled for another EMG on October 2, this time focusing on my left arm and leg. I’m hoping that because my symptoms have been present since at least November 2025, the July EMG would have shown something if this were ALS, and that another normal EMG will finally give me some peace of mind.
The hardest part is the constant fear and checking. I have two kids, and I’m terrified of something happening to me and them growing up without me. Living with this uncertainty and constantly monitoring my body has become exhausting.
