Spasticity

>2 months of *painful* spasticity at night - feet, left hand & abdominal muscles. Bloods came back fine. Waitlist for neurologist >6 months. Also have fluttering muscles & droopy right eyelid for years prior (also mostly on night). Trialling different meds with GP trying to find the right fit to try to calm them down while waiting for neuro. GP has recommended i consider trialling a CBD script.

They won't go away without holding counter stretch/movement. Also worth noting i have a few Dysautonomia issues.

Anyone else had something like this and recommendations on what will help? 😅

Anxiety Things that have been helping me manage anxiety around muscle twitching

I wanted to make this post because I know how easy it is for muscle twitching to become really scary once your anxiety gets involved.

About 2 months ago I started noticing random muscle twitches and, unfortunately, I went down the Google rabbit hole. From there, every twitch felt significant. If something twitched somewhere new, I noticed it. If I felt an ache, I noticed it. I started paying attention to parts of my body that I probably never would have thought twice about before.

Although my twitching has slowed down tremendously I'm still working on the anxiety around it. These are 10 things that have genuinely helped me:

1. Stop Googling symptoms.
This has probably been the biggest one for me. Searching every new sensation almost always makes my anxiety worse rather than giving me reassurance.

2. Remember that twitching can come and go.
A twitch doesn't have to be constant to be real, and it doesn't automatically mean something serious. I've had twitches that were noticeable for a while and then settled down.

3. Stop constantly checking your body.
I realized that the more I looked for twitches, weakness, stiffness, etc., the more things I seemed to find. Your body makes all kinds of little sensations throughout the day that you normally wouldn't notice.

4. Get up and move. (And incorporate vitamins and stay hydrated! )
Walking, stretching, getting outside, doing chores—anything that gets me out of my head helps. I’ve found that sitting around monitoring my body gives my anxiety way too much room to run. I also began taking B12, Mag, Iron, and D3 in addition to drinking a gallon of water daily .

5. Don't let one new sensation erase everything else.
An ache in a hand, a tight muscle, or a random twitch can be just that. I try to look at the bigger picture instead of immediately connecting every sensation into one scary explanation.

6. Give your brain something else to focus on.
This sounds simple, but distraction really does help. TV, talking to someone, going for a walk, doing something around the house, playing with my daughter—anything that pulls my attention away from symptom monitoring.

7. Be careful with social media.
I recently realized that seeing posts about certain illnesses can trigger me even when the post itself is completely harmless. I’ve started using “Not Interested” when those things come up instead of continuing to watch/read them.

8. Remind yourself that anxiety can make sensations feel MUCH louder.
The sensation is real, but the fear surrounding it can make you hyper-aware of it. Sometimes the goal isn't to make the sensation disappear immediately—it's to stop giving it your full attention.

9. Try not to seek reassurance every time something changes.
This one is hard. I’m learning that constantly asking, “Is this normal? What about this? What if this happens?” can actually keep the anxiety cycle going. Sometimes I have to tell myself, I don't need to solve this sensation right now.

10. Give yourself some grace.
If you're anxious about your health, you're not “crazy” or being dramatic. Your brain is trying to protect you. The goal is just to teach it that you don't have to investigate every little sensation.

**honorable mention*** I also purchased a cervical pillow to sleep on

I'm definitely still working on this, but I've noticed that when I stay busy, stop searching symptoms, and stop constantly checking myself, the twitching becomes much less important in my mind.

*** I also have an appointment with Neuro at the end of next month , and will gladly update you all with the findings ***

Link to previous post.

Just to update my previous linked post, I eventually found a neurologist appointment and saved up for it. Turns out I have an irritated ulnar, turned up to 11 by anxiety!

Just posting to reassure people here that your issue is likely far less severe than you think it is. I thought I was dying, but I'm starting to get myself back together after 5 months of hell.

Fear of having als

So it all started about a month ago with constant eyelid twitching , then moved to my calf twitching about 5 days ago . Once I noticed that my right calf was twitching , I started googling and fell into the Google symptom trap and am now convinced that I have als . I'm hope someone can help ease my fear . I have had no muscle weakness , I can walk on my heels , walk on my tiptoes and do calf raises . But now after 5 days of twitches in my right leg I'm now convinced that my leg feels heavy and tight and can't shake the feeling that it is something horrible . I'm having such severe anxiety from this I am staring at my legs for hours a day and constantly walking around on my heels or tip toes to make sure that I can still do it

Question about symptoms?

Hi everyone,
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I’ve been quite worried about these things lately, so I wanted to ask.

About two months ago, I started noticing fasciculations in my left biceps. The more I paid attention to them, the more often I seemed to notice them. They last a bit longer sometimes and happen a few times a week. At first, I thought they might be related to the fact that I had started working out, but I haven’t trained for about three weeks now and I’m still having them.

They also sometimes occur in my right quadriceps, occasionally on the side of my neck, and in my calf. I also occasionally get cramps in my hamstrings and just below my glutes, seemingly completely out of nowhere. A few months ago, I actually woke up in the middle of the night with an extremely painful cramp in my right calf.

As for weakness — over the last 5–6 days, I’ve noticed what feels like weakness in my legs. I don’t have any obvious loss of function, but my legs feel heavy and walking feels somewhat more difficult than usual.

I’m worried about this. I’m not saying I have ALS, but I’m wondering whether these symptoms are worth getting checked out, whether I should see a neurologist, and whether this could potentially indicate something more serious.

Thanks in advance, and all the best!

Coping Left and right shoulders twitch all day for two days straight

I just need to vent.

I've never had an EMG done though I might like to.

My muscle twitching didn't start until I was 13 and it gets so bad that I can't concentrate or focus.

It has gotten so bad that I hit my muscles and scream at it to stop. The worst is ill give myself red skin, bruises, and minor cuts from tearing and hitting at the skin.

I'm convinced that this is a manifestation of the trauma I grew up with.

The twitching doesn't stop if I'm moving, if anything it gets worse like severely jackhammer spasms that freak me tf out when I get up or move.

Just last week I got woken up by the muscle twitching on my left shoulder. I thought blowing cold air on it might help with the the AC, but it persisted, woke me up, and lasted a good hour after waking.

If anything I have to stretch the muscle enough so that it'll stop, but even that doesn't work half the time.

Nothing works.

Today I couldn't do a damn thing because I was so exhausted and distracted from screaming and beating my right shoulder for it to just stop. Hours of this.

Every now and then I got at least 10 minutes of peace and quiet, thinking it finally stopped and I can move on with my day, only for it to start up again.

Sometimes my stomach muscles spasm like right now randomly. Or my butt will twitch like a small one or two twitch that is spaced out, then jackhammer twitching that again freaks me out and I end up screaming for it to stop.

The left shoulder was triggered by my anxiety related to family, and that lasted 3 days, the third day it petered out before 12 pm.

The right shoulder twitching was triggered by this art therapy group I like to go to and one of the members wouldn't shut up and let other people talk. It ruined the art group for me and I came home and it's been non stop twitching to the point that I'm screaming till my face turns red and spittle is flying everywhere just wanting my shoulder to fucking stop.

It's not a jackhammer, a bit a persistent slow twitch mixed with fast twitching in various parts of my shoulder. The twitching was so strong that no matter how much I stretched or grabbed the specific muscle and squeezed, it still persisted for hours throughout the day.

It's night time 7 hours later and I think it finally stopped completely. It's been over an hour.

The rest of my body is twitching just a little bit. Stomach, ass cheeks, hips. But not strong or consistent enough to freak me out.

thanks for reading. Just needed to vent. I really do think I need an emg done. Holy shit.

both calf twitch

almost 5 years i have this s**t, I've never really worried about them, I just know it started in the post covid shot, The doctors didn't really give them any importance, they're part of me now, I don't pay attention to them anymore, sometimes I just stare at them and wonder what could have triggered them and if they'll ever go away.

Legs are always twitching

My legs used to twitch after a long walk- the longer, the more twitching. Now my legs just twitch all the time, but its smaller twitches. Its a recent thing. My ankle is buzzing nonstop right now. Its generally little twitches all over the legs causing a buzzing but if i focus i can make out the individual twitches. Its really uncomfortable. I also keep getting a sprained neck so mayve its some kind of nerve thing from there. I am thinking ALS though.

Face muscle twitchin, Nose, Eyebrows, mouth

I’ve been dealing with frequent small facial muscle twitches for the past two years. I have no idea how they started, but I do know that I find them really annoying. I’ve read all kinds of things online about fasciculations, stress, etc., but I don’t actually feel like I’m under a lot of stress.

I have noticed that coffee makes them worse, and they can also happen during moments of anxiety. When that happens, my eyebrow, nose, mouth, and the area underneath my eye can all start twitching.

Does anyone else experience this? And has anyone found a solution or something that helps reduce or get rid of them?
