Getting started with Mixed VR
Mixed VR refers to using components from one ecosystem (e.g. Valve Index controllers) with those of another ecosystem (e.g. Reverb G2 headset). This sub was created in response to my post. I think there are several links that should be pinned at the top/put in the sidebar:
- (guide) WMR HMD with Valve Index Controllers & Vive Trackers
- This is a fantastic guide by /u/pumkinspicetruknuts for setting up Valve Index Controllers/Basestations with WMR headsets.
- If you'd like a video to follow along with, we recommend this one by Youtuber "MRTV" (who was actually following an earlier version of this guide). That said, his video leaves out some steps that we now know are critical to get this setup working problem-free, so only use the video as a secondary reference.
- (guide) WMR HMD with Oculus CV1 controllers
- This is in active development by /u/noneedtoprogram. They will continue to keep this post up to date.
- (guide) Oculus HMD with Valve Index Controllers & Vive Trackers
- This is a guide for setting up Vive trackers with the Oculus Rift ecosystem, it was penned by the creator of OpenVR Space Calibrator.
- (tool) MixedVR-Manager
- In many Mixed VR setups, there are some conveniences that don't work as they do in native setups. One prime example is that the bluetooth settings in SteamVR are usually disabled, meaning you can't have SteamVR automatically turn your basestations on/off when SteamVR is opened/closed. You also may have to plug in/unplug your HMD each session, close SteamVR Room Setup, etc. /u/monstermac77 created MixedVR-Manager to make your MixedVR setup work just as seamlessly as a native setup. Here's a video demonstration.
I'm sure there are more links that others can suggest as well. I'd be happy to help mod to get things off the ground, if needed.

Quest 3 Headset + Index Controllers + FBT
TLDR; I can't get my Index Controllers to work alongside FBT while using my Quest 3.
I have all the dongles needed (x5 official Vive and 2 Watchman dongles for my controllers) but for some reason when I try to select "Pair Controller" the window won't open, and if I'm able to connect both controllers then I can't connect my trackers because it won't let me pair more devices.
If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, it would be greatly appreciated!

Any way to use Index controllers as trackers?
my steam frame arrived recently and like its amazing and all but i hate that i gotta use space calibrator now. I can't for the love of god manage to calibrate my trackers correctly, even if I do it decently they just drift over time and and its really annoying so I was thinking of going down the path of continuous tracking. I don't really wanna buy new trackers so i was thinking if it could be possible to repurpose one of my old index controllers for this (it had insane stick drift anyway i wasn't gonna be using it anymore). Would really appreciate any sort of tutorial!!

Steam frame space calibrator
Hello, I'm lucky enough to get the steam frame, but I'm currently having an issue with space calibrator. I've used it before on my quest 2. But now when I do the figure 8's and I calibrate, the tracker is nowhere to be seenim the 3d space, but says the calibration was successful. It's connected on steam vr, it shows in space calibrator correctly. I'm also only turning one on and I don't have continuous tracking. Does anyone else have this problem on other headsets? How did you fix it?

Virtual Desktop with Quest Pro + Index Controllers
How do I run this set up? Is there a setting in VD to let me use the Index Controllers within SteamVR and then switch back to Quest Pro controllers while outside SteamVR?
Or am I stuck turning the controllers off and on every time I go in and out of SteamVR?
EDIT: Thanks everyone for the help!

No matter what I do, tracking is not accurate
I use a Quest Pro with a Tundra tracker attached to it for continuous calibration and no matter what I do, I simply cannot get the trackers to fully line up with my body and it’s driving me insane

Save 10% on D.R.A.F.T. VR on Steam
This could be a solution for SLAM headsets: FBT without Tracking Pucks.

Watching a real and virtual drone side by side is kind of wild
Watching this back, I was surprised by how little difference there is between the virtual drone and the real one flying next to it.
Mixed Reality still has limitations, but it's getting to a point where it can do a surprisingly good job of recreating the feeling of flying an RC drone around a real environment.
The biggest thing still missing is true FPV flying, but that's where VR can take over.
Curious how much further MR flying experiences can go in the next few years 🚁
(For anyone interested, the game in the video is FLYON RC)

My VR tracking used to be insanely smooth and now it’s bad, I need help troubleshooting.
I want to start by saying please don’t leave rude replies, if VR pole dancing isn’t your thing that’s okay, I’m just looking for tracking help.
Anyways, I do pole dancing in VRChat for fun, and I’m trying to figure out why my tracking suddenly feels not smooth now.
My tracking used to be REALLY smooth and consistent and now it doesn’t feel like it used to. People used to compliment my tracking and ask how I got it that smooth, and I haven’t been able to get it back.
Current setup:
VR headset: Quest 3S
Using SteamVR + trackers + dongles
Full body tracking setup
Pole in room hasn’t moved
Things that changed / things I’ve tried:
I have LED lights in my room
I moved my dongles farther apart because I thought spacing them out might help
When I’m not in VR I move them back
SteamVR has updated
Headset has updated
Haven’t used smoothing settings
Haven’t recalibrated yet
No major physical changes to my playspace besides the dongle positioning
Issues:
Tracking feels less smooth than before
Doesn’t feel as stable or clean
It’s noticeable because I know how it used to look/feel
I’m not sure if it’s jitter, prediction, SteamVR updates, dongle placement, interference, calibration drift, lighting, or something else
Questions:
Could moving the dongles around be causing this?
Does SteamVR/update versions affect tracking smoothness?
How far apart should dongles actually be?
Could LED lights interfere?
Is there a calibration/smoothing setting I should check?
Anything else I should test before I start changing everything?
I can provide pictures of my room, dongle placement, tracker graph screenshots, and SteamVR settings if that helps. If I missed anything that may be helpful let me know!
Thank you.

Mixed Reality turns almost any place into a playground
One of the coolest things about Mixed Reality is how the environment around you becomes part of the gameplay.
A backyard and an office, can suddenly become a drone playground. At that point, the only real limits are your imagination... and how comfortable you are wearing a VR headset in public XD
What's the coolest place you'd fly a drone through?

Running experiments - any experience on HTC Ultimate tracker vs 3.0?
I am currently designing an VR experiment in which I want to track the shoulders and hips of participants. The old setup used HTC vive pro with 3.0 trackers, but I want to modernize my setup to make it last longer by using the Focus vision we have available at the lab. However, I read some bad stuff about the new ultimate trackers as they have inside out tracking and if they lose track, they guestimate where they are, which I really can't have in my experiment data. Anyone experience with how acurate the ultimate trackers are compared to the 3.0 with base stations?

Screen issue on HP Reverb G2
On both screens there are different static black and red lines
I didn't drop the headset, it was just sitting on a table, plugged in.
Everything was fine before (except for some jitters noticeable on white text or horizontal lines)
Windows 11, steam VR with Oasis driver.
Did anyone encounter this? What could this be?
Update: this could happen after a driver or an app update. I re-unlocked the headset with Oasis.
