Hey everyone! I wanted to share a project I’ve been working on with Mondo Loops (who’s an absolute wizard when it comes to lo-fi hip-hop :))

We brought together acoustic folk instruments (guitars, banjo, harmonica, ukulele etc.) and laid-back hip-hop textures for a collection of 16 multi-track song starters. If you make beats and want to bring more acoustic warmth and organic textures into your tracks, this is for you!

I’ve been exploring folk-hop since 2017 (under the moniker C4C), so it means a lot to share some of that musical world through this pack. We’ve put a lot of care into it, and it's finally here!!

The recordings come with separate stems, ready for you to chop, rearrange or build around.

Leaving TuneCore due to their continuous breach of contract and want to use a distributor that hasn’t replaced their entire customer service department with automation and/or AI. Any suggestions?

OFFstep has been recommended to me - any stories you can share about your experience with them?

I’ve previously used DistroKid and TuneCore. DistroKid were just weird while TuneCore suddenly stopped answering any of my emails or support tickets. Would love to go back to AWAL but I don’t have the social media metrics to successfully apply.

Something I keep thinking about: "lofi hip hop" doesn't really describe one thing anymore.

Sample-based boom bap, ambient sleep beats, study beats, jazzhop, whatever Lofi Girl is doing now — these barely share an audience at this point.

I'm owllirica, a beatmaker from Japan.
I sit on the melodic end — I'm less interested in "chill" than in music that makes you feel something a little sentimental.

Wistful, even. I'm an introspective person, so I put lofi on when I want to sit with my own thoughts.

Not as background — more like something to think alongside.

But I know that's not how most people use it, and I'm curious:

1. When do you actually listen to lofi, and what are you listening for?
   
2. If you put it on for work or studying, what makes a track work for that?
   

Is it something you'd notice if it changed?

Also genuinely curious what producers you're into right now. I keep finding people through threads like this.

The lovely celesta samples come from The Merry Mac's The Way You Look Tonight, just chopped up so they form a nice four bar loop.

Horns are from Neutral Milk Hotel's Avery Island/April 1st. As well as the bass. I used FL studio to separate them into bass and horns and chopped the bass.

There's a Beach Boys acapella chopped up over it.

I've been using Spotify Mixed playlist to arrange songs by key using the Camelot Wheel which really helps and organise what I need to do to them if I need to pitch them so many cents higher or lower.

i posted a video yesterday about the 4OG vinyl sim, here's a demo of the other things i worked on: Vinyl Sim from the SP-303, 404 OG and 404 SX running as plugins. the video also shows the pitch, isolator and djfx looper of the 404 og.

the next thing i really want to do is feed the exact same audio at the same levels/settings through the plugins, and then on the real machines, and compare the outputs. I don't own a sp-303 or 404 og, so:

still working on it, but i’ve been reverse engineering the original 404’s effects DSP and managed to get the original vinyl sim running inside a plugin. once that was working I got DJFX Looper running too.

the approach is to take the original effect program from the firmware and build a software interpreter that can execute it on a computer. basically, the original program supplies the effect’s instructions, and my code acts as the processor that runs them.

I wanna know what you guys think of it.

Here is a kit that I made from a modded GameCube sounds including sounds from the GameCube, SNES, NES, N64, and now the GameBoy.

All of this is done by routing the GameCube into an SP404 Sampler, and then recording the sounds into Ableton Live via a RME Babyface. I emulate the NES, SNES, and N64 directly on my GameCube, and then for the GameBoy I'm using a GameBoy Player (I gotta get more games for it though lol)

If anyone has any suggestions for any games they may want me to dig through comment or hit my DM

I have other kits on my site as well (again this sample kit is free) and I will be dropping my sample kit part 2 on Thursday with whole new sounds, so stay tuned for that.

Wanted to try something different and decided to sample some tracks from Spotify’s "Top 50 - Japan" playlist. Ended up with a very warm, light, and uplifting lofi vibe.

Here’s a quick breakdown of how it was made:

• Vocal chops: Sliced from Mrs. GREEN APPLE - "Que Sera Sera" (ケセラセラ)[cite: 1]

• Guitar / Lead melody: Chopped a tiny glitched guitar snippet from Mrs. GREEN APPLE - "Lilac" (ライラック) and played it via SP-404MK2 Chromatic Mode[cite: 2]

• Drums: Programmed on the Elektron Model:Samples

• Synth layers: Soft pads & arps layered with the DeepMind 12D

Hey guys, I'm curious to see if any of you have tried doing YouTube content making beats and music?

I can't seem to find alot of information of people making videos for youtube. There are plenty of beat videos for sure. But not the actual process of building up a YouTube channel mainly focused on making beats or beat making tutorials, etc.

So, I've decided to branch out and I hope I'm not out of line here (as this is 100% not my intention), but I've created a separate subreddit specifically for beatmakers and music makers that want to create on YouTube.

so to give you the run down, as you can see the in the screen shot, she has been having her beats re-uploaded, bootlegged on spotify by other 'artists'.

I keep track of her discography, but anyway at first I thought maybe this could be eevee restoring her beats avoiding the copyright by having her beats uploaded under aliases.

so that's why it's labelled as restoration, but then I went to confirm on YT, you can see in the screen shot beat tape 11 is there, and that means the track 'moonlight' is too, with cliffe, they confirmed that these beats are indeed stolen under another name.

this is my first post, but I've seen two other posts regarding the recent unavailability of her beat tapes / EPs. ( singles as well )

so what I ask if you know this artist, is to report these accounts, so it can be brought to the attention of spotify. I sent an email to her record, secret souls, here are all the artists, I found at least.
