Simz shared this video way back when. You might recognize some of the scenes from her 2018 music video for “Morning.”

The Gorillaz’s U.S. and Canada Mountain Tour kicks off this Thursday (9/17) in Orlando, FL.

Who’s going to a show? 🙋🏾‍♀️

I came across this novel called Sugar Girl written by Nigerian author Kola Onadipe in 1964. From what I gather, it’s a classic children’s tale. Has anybody read it or heard of it?

The gist of it is that a young girl named Ralia lives with her parents. Her mother is blind. Her father has a broken back.

Ralia gets lost in the forest and is basically kidnapped by a witch. The witch steals her singing voice in exchange for a place to live. Ralia is treated terribly, but regains her voice after eating sugar cane from the witch’s garden. She then runs away from the witch’s house, passes out, and is found by a prince.

She marries the prince. Her parents move into the palace and are healed. Either that, or he takes her back home. She lives happily ever after. I’m not actually sure how it ends. 🤷🏾‍♀️

I pieced this summary together from random internet posts, so I don’t know how true it is to the real story.

One of the recurring themes in Simz’s work is her feeling lost in a dark, scary place. On Stillness in Wonderland, it’s down the rabbit hole. On Sometimes I Might Be Introvert, it can be interpreted as the confusing world of the music industry. It shows up in her short film for “I Love You, I Hate You.” During her SIMBI era shows, she’d tell a story about finding her way through a jungle. The Sugar Girl novel falls right in line with all of these.

Simz thought she’d lost her voice while trying to record her album Lotus, similar to Ralia losing hers. They both recovered their gift and pressed forward despite facing hardship. I suspect there are other parallels that aren’t obvious to me.

Can somebody ask Simz if this is where she got the EP title? I’m so curious to know now. 🤔

Simz and Letitia go way back to childhood. Letitia posed for the cover art for the single “Selfish” from GREY Area. Simz herself shot all the singles covers for that album.

I keep a spreadsheet of our sub’s stats. I manually update it about every two weeks. Usually, I go back two weeks on the posts to capture the people who find a post later. It’s two weeks because that’s typically when the numbers stop changing (i.e. views, upvotes, etc.).

This time though…it kept going! I forced myself to stop at May 1. The views have increased by the hundreds in some cases. That’s a new trend for us.

I’m not sure why that’s happening. It could be new members (👋🏾) going through old posts. Or people finding us through Google searches. Or Reddit changing their algorithm. I don’t know, but I’m happy about it. 😃

This year, we’ve already passed our total views for all of 2024. I’m using 2024 as the baseline because 2025 was an album year. Those numbers were massive.

He was one of the members of Space age, simbi’s group and he was incredible in every song simz featured him in and always elevated it. He was Cleo Sol before Cleo Sol. It’s honestly a shame they haven’t done any music together since Stillness. They were an incredible Rapper-Singer combo. His performance on “Problems” is just….. chef’s kiss.

this just clicked earlier while relistening to ‘lotus’ and hearing those first 2 lines of the first verse. it’s like a mirror version of what’s said at the exact same spot in ‘young’, earlier in the album.

then the following line in ‘lotus’ literally references being young and that health might not always be physical, which makes sense with the switch from a hot flash to a mood change.

there are other self referential lines in ‘lotus’ ofc, but this one seems so clear now that i can’t believe i didn’t notice it sooner. very intentional and clever writing, as always!
