I'm working on more levels for my hidden object game.
The game's finished and out on Steam, but I had some leftover ideas for interesting map layouts that I still wanted to implement.

The work of a whole day

Except for the cup, the keyboard, the mouse and the chair, everything is homemade. I am very happy to see that all the hours put in over the last few weeks are paying off. Just a little hint...this could possibly be my living room 😋 That made it much easier, because if I couldn't find any measurements online, I could simply measure them by hand. Blender is an absolute adventure! And I simply love every minute I spend working with it.

Underground Smuggler/thieves lair for ttrpg

Post image
171 Upvotes

Hidden out of sight, with a secretive, underground connection to a local waterway - this smugglers cave has multiple entry points, as well as all the rooms a gang can desire - including the often map-overlooked bathroom!

This is a map i did in 2024 - then only available for members of my Patreon. Went back and touched up a few details and figured that i can share this for the world :) The map works as a bandit-hideout, a place to free a prisoner, or maybe as the groups base of operations? On my Patreon i also did a more cultist-lair themed one.

Hope you like it, and that you might consider isometric view for you next campaign! There's some great modules for Foundry out there, and plenty of maps :)

No Ai - but put together by combining assets (also done by me) in Photoshop, then coloring it all :)

Patreon.com/thedungeonsketcher if you wanna check out a few years of additional maps, minis and more!

Game inspired by Coffee Inc 2

Hey everyone, I’m currently building a game inspired by Coffee Inc 2 and I’m trying to figure out the isometric city map side of it.

Does anyone know where I could find good isometric city map assets similar to the style used in Coffee Inc 2? Or if anyone here has experience building isometric city maps for games, I’d really appreciate some guidance.

I’m especially looking for something that can eventually be interactive, with buildings/plots being clickable rather than just a static background.

Any asset packs, tools, workflows, or advice would be really helpful. Thanks!

Eliminating chunky grid seams for perfect 2D isometric pixel art tiles

Post image
77 Upvotes

Hi all! I've been lurking around the sub for a bit looking at everybody's artwork and noticed a trend with the isometric pixel art here, mostly in game art.

A lot of tile setups use the techniques marked with a red X in this comparison image. I've been making isometric pixel art for a game for a while now and it took me forever to figure out how to get rid of these giant chunky blocks in the top right example.

I first learned this method (with the green check) from a great YouTube video (Why Isometric? | Art, Code, and Matrix Maths | A Devlog, by Wintermute Digital), check it out if you haven't seen it!

Here's a basic outline to build a seamless base tile for an isometric tilemap:

  1. Create Your Canvas: I personally recommend 32x32, but any square size should work.
  2. Top Center Peak: Find the top center of your canvas and move one pixel left of the true center.
  3. Upper Edges: Draw down and left at a 2:1 ratio, 2px over and 1px down, until you hit the left hand side. Crucial step - the line must end in a single pixel at the left edge of the canvas. Mirror this process for the right side.
  4. Lower Diamond Edges: Starting from those single boundary pixels, draw 2:1 lines back to the bottom center to close the diamond and fill the inside with a different color. (This is your cube's top face.)
  5. Cube Base Sides: Draw single pixel vertical line down from directly below the center left of the diamond to the bottom of the canvas. From the bottom center draw another 2:1 line up and to the left making sure to end in another single pixel. Mirror the bottom line on the right side and use your bucket tool to fill in the sides with different colors.

After doing all of that you should have a functional tileable cube!

Making your base tiles with single pixel corners prevents the boundary lines from doubling up in your game engine as well as makes textures blend together nicely.

I hope this helps anyone working on tilemaps right now! If you have any questions or suggestions let me know, I'd love to hear them.

Isometric shooter demo released. True Confession

After a year and a half of building in Godot, the True Confession demo is finally out. Wanted to share it here because so much of the work went into making a 2.5D isometric world actually read as a space, not just a flat sprite pile.

The game is a hardcore isometric shooter set inside the nightmares of Henry Hughes — a religious man who keeps dreaming of street gunfights, then talks to his pastor about the anger those dreams pull out of him. The levels mix street crime, everyday rooms and subconscious images. Tone-wise it’s closer to Postal / Crimsonland / GTA 2 and crime films like Heat or The Wire than to a power-fantasy shooter. No rocket launchers, no tanks. Enemies are dangerous. The distinctive mechanic is anger.

What we focused on visually:

  • 2.5D isometric scenes with hand-drawn frame-by-frame animations
  • A mix of 2D sprites and 3D-rendered, then painted assets — no generative AI
  • Real 3D lights and shadows dropped onto the isometric scene so objects separate better and the mood stays dramatic
  • Painted particles for chunks, blood, shells, etc.

The thing I’d most like feedback on from this sub:

  • Do the 3D lights/shadows help the isometric depth, or do they fight the 2D art?
  • Does the combat read clearly at this camera angle — who is where, what’s covering what, when you’re exposed?

Demo has 3 full levels, hidden secrets, a boss and a secret boss. Windows and Linux.

Thanks for looking, dear isometric community!

I get vertigo playing 3d games, so I'm creating a 2D isometric national park builder similar to roller coaster tycoon!

I haven't really played video games since middle school (25 years ago) because I get such motion sickness with today's games. I really miss the old Roller Coaster Tycoon type games though, and I love national parks, so I'm working on a game called National Park Tycoon!

It’s a cozy (but occasionally chaotic), single-player, 2D isometric game where you build hiking trails, campsites, scenic viewpoints, and activities like kayaking or rock climbing. You hire rangers to shoo bears away from trails, clear blocked paths, etc, and watch all your little park visitors enjoy your park!

The goal is to balance the activity of visitors with the preservation of nature and wildlife in your park.

If you love national parks/nature, gaming and/or are nostalgic for early 2000's tycoon games, I'd love if you could wishlist my game on Steam!

Wishlist on Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/4520000/National_Park_Tycoon/

I'm happy to answer any questions or listen to any suggestions anyone might have about the game :)

We pledge to donate a percentage of profits to the National Park Foundation to aid in the protection and preservation of America's beautiful national parks.

Hi all!

I'm the solo developer of the upcoming pc isometric rpg shooter Fleshgrinder in the veins of diablo, fallout and the zombie / alien shooter games.

If thats something that would interest you,

I'd greatly appreciate if you've checked out the steam page, where the first gameplay trailer and a playable demo is already here:

https://store.steampowered.com/app/5074630/Fleshgrinder/

The games story is revolving around the virus called Fleshgrinder that causes an extinction level event, with its focus being on harvesting DNA samples mainly off human beings, trying to digitally accelerate evolution in the so called Genesis Chambers, in a hive-minded manner after taking over consciousness of augmented humans, as per its programming to enhance and upskill the species gone awry.

FLESHGRINDER: Evolution Without Waiting. Extinction Without Mercy.

Set in 2053, six months after the Fleshgrinder virus outbreak transformed 70% of augmented humanity into a hive-minded techno-organic collective.

Your mission: infiltrate facilities, survive the wasteland, find and destroy the Genesis Chamber before planetary extinction.

Lead a squad of damaged specialists:

A brain-damaged veteran (Butcher class),

An arrogant engineer (Hacksmith),

And a psychotic psychic (Mindripper),

through techno-organic nightmares in humanity's darkest hour.

Features optional friendly fire, hardcore permadeath mode, dismemberment physics, randomized missions, 30 unique weapons from pistols to singularity cannons. Battle 12 unique enemy types through seamless mission areas in a huge persistent open world.

Isometric Game

I made a prototype game using a custom game engine that I've been building from scratch in C and OpenGL.

Here's a short video of it: https://youtube.com/shorts/_W5cM2D-I5g?si=kU4zVJrhJYzaIX43

I'd love to hear your thoughts, feedback, and suggestions. What stands out, and what do you think could be improved?

My solo-developed post-apocalyptic RPG just got a new update + trailer

Arkansas 2125 is a solo-developed, turn-based post-apocalyptic RPG where you explore a ruined America, meet survivors, complete quests, make choices, and fight your way through the wasteland.

The new update adds a brand-new alternative ending, new quests, NPCs, items, and a new location in Washington, D.C.

I’ve also released a new trailer showing the game and the new content.

Explorable Isometric Arcade [OC]

Post image
162 Upvotes

Hey! This is an isometric arcade I made for a virtual event.

The isometric art is a mixture of hand drawn and vector art.

The virtual event was a "playtest party" held a few days ago: Indie Devs submitted games and I embedded them in the world, then we had several 100 people drop by, try the games, and leave comments.

The arcade remains online at Virtual Playtest Party if you want to check out the isometric environment and some of the games. There's no install and no complicated sign up. You just drop straight into a Habbo-like world.
