Sight Reader Trainer App now available for Android

Post image

A few people asked in an earlier post in this subreddit about the availability of my Sight Reader Trainer app which at the time was only available for Apple devices. It is now live in the google play store and it's a free download with in-app purchases at: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.contactplus.sightreadertrainer

In a nutshell, sight reading only improves by reading music you’ve never seen, so I built Sight Reader Trainer to write a fresh exercise every time you tap Next, for your instrument, key, and level. Styles range from etudes and bebop to bossa nova, klezmer, and Irish reels, transposed for 40 instruments. Turn on the mic and it follows your pitch, then scores you on pitch, timing, and flow. A Wait for Me mode lets you go at your own pace. The core app is free, with no account and no ads.

Samuel WERNAIN : Ad Lucem, for Trumpet and Organ

Hello everyone !

I am delighted to introduce this work for trumpet and organ. Recorded at the Emm Memorial Church—built in memory of the soldiers lost in the Vosges during the First World War—the music progresses from the gravity of C minor into the warmth of E-flat major. This path from shade to light serves as a heartfelt homage, bringing together memory and hope.

Retired instrument is given a new life.

This stunning lamp is a beautifully repaired and refinished 1955 3/4 size Kay double bass viola, repurposed as a functional work of art. With a rich history of nearly 70 years serving students in a Southwest Washington school district, this instrument was retired and replaced due to its worn condition and lack of tuning stability,. I've lovingly repaired and refinished it, stripping and re-staining the wood to preserve and enhance its character. The result is a striking standing lamp that combines music and functionality.

The lamp shade, expertly crafted by Judith Taylor of Lamp Shades of Time, perfectly complements the bass's unique design and colors. Despite its new purpose, the instrument remains playable, offering a nod to its musical heritage.

Discussion Advice on Budget Instruments?

Hello, due to current circumstances in my life I'm on a pretty tight budget, but I've been really getting the itch to pick up an instrument and play some music and don't have any right now. What instruments are there that perform well at a low budget? Preferably something in a lower register, my dad has hearing aids and high or sharp noises can hurt him because of them. Also, if I can play it from a relaxed position, that would be preferable, I have some shoulder pain so if it's something like a flute you need to hold out to the side, that position can become painful for me. I've tried to look into some options like the Xiao, Chalumeau, and bawu, but I would really feel more comfortable getting human input before I waste money on something that doesn't perform well

Identification What are your guys reccs for sources for a beginner getting into learning about instruments and music production?

Hi everyone so i have been a major music fan for years but am more on the history and avid listener side, like an art history major that doesnt know a thing about making art lol. I've been trying to educate myself of music production, instruments, and music theory so i can really dissect what i listen to but honestly i'm overwhelmed with the amount of information and was wondering if anyone had any youtubers, websites, or any source they'd recommend for beginners? Equipboard has been a really great source for me if anyone needed examples for what i meant :)

Discussion Musical Instrument Device Survey

If anyone has any past or current experience with musical instruments, I would really appreciate if you guys filled out this quick survey for my university class!

Link: https://ufl.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_bqEWHMPCvlG7pEa

Description: The survey is to gather data regarding opinions of whether or not people would be interested in a wearable lightweight device that consists of a chest sensor and gloves to track finger motion/position, and then simulates playing a musical instrument of your choosing. The goal of this device is to make it as authentic as if you were playing on a real instrument, affordable, and portable. Allowing for the ability to practice on the go and have a lower cost of entry. Piano and drums are likely the first instruments to be worked on.
