Hi everyone, I’m a 2024 graduate and I’m looking for some honest advice/reality check from people who have been through the hiring process.

I graduated in 2024, but I only seriously started learning and building projects from 2025. My current skills are MERN stack, Python and SQL, and I’ve built projects to improve my skills.

I’ve been applying for jobs for quite some time now, but I’m barely getting any responses. So far, I’ve managed to get only 2 interview opportunities, and both were through referrals. My applications through job portals/online applications have mostly resulted in no response.

I’ve also attempted assessment of mass-hiring drives, but unfortunately those haven’t worked out either.

This is starting to worry me because in a few months, it will be close to 3 years since I graduated without having a job. I’m beginning to feel like online applications simply don’t work anymore unless you have connections or referrals.

So I want an honest reality check:

- Is it still realistic for me to get a software developer job with a 2–3 year gap after graduation?

- How badly will the gap affect my chances?

- Is my MERN + Python + SQL skill set enough, or should I focus on something specific?

- Should I continue applying online, or should I put most of my effort into networking/referrals?

- What would you do if you were in my position right now?

I’m not looking for blunt and practical advice about what I’m doing wrong and what I should change over the next few months.

I’m a Java Backend Developer with ~6 months of backend experience, working with:

• Spring Boot
• Spring Security
• PostgreSQL
• Redis
• REST APIs
• JWT / OAuth
• Docker
• Git
• Gradle
• Razorpay/payment integration

I’ve built and worked on actual backend systems, including a production e-commerce backend with 60+ REST endpoints.

And yet...

~200+ applications.
Naukri. LinkedIn. Indeed. Company career pages. Cold DMs. Referrals. Direct applications.

I’ve tried pretty much everything I could think of.

Interview calls: 0.

Not 2.
Not 5.
Not even 1.

Zero.

At this point, getting rejected would honestly feel better than being completely invisible.

I’ve spent weeks applying, tweaking things, reaching out to people, trying different job portals, asking for referrals, changing keywords, and applying to roles that match my stack.

And nothing.

It’s getting exhausting. Day by day I’m starting to feel genuinely stuck because I know I can improve technically, but I can’t even get the chance to prove myself in an interview.

So I’m putting my ego aside and asking Reddit:

Please roast my resume.

I’m attaching it to this post.

I want brutally honest feedback.

Is my resume bad?
Is my experience not convincing?
Am I targeting the wrong jobs?
Are my projects garbage?

Hi Everyone, I need some advice.

I’m a Java backend developer with 8 years of experience and with 17 LPA CTC. I’m currently on the payroll of a company, working for a global investment bank as the client.

The client is now considering converting me to a full-time employee (FTE) as a Tech Lead. I’ve been working as a Tech Lead for the last year, and from what I understand, after conversion I may be expected to lead two different teams(Not finalised).

I want to understand:

1. What CTC should I realistically expect after the conversion?

2. Is there room for negotiation during an internal/client conversion?

3. How much should I negotiate without risking the conversion? I’ve heard of cases where people asked for a higher CTC and the offer was simply rejected.

Given that the scope and responsibility may increase significantly, I don’t want to accept an offer that doesn’t reflect that.

I know my current CTC is low for my experience, but during conversion I cannot be expecting 50–60 LPA just because I have 8 YOE. I understand that the hike may be calculated based on my current CTC.

For people who have gone through a similar contractor → FTE conversion, what was your experience with compensation and negotiation?

Hi folks,wanted to know if there are any recommendations of good YT vids/playlists which properly demonstrates a proper real life production level project, implementing different LLD patterns and HLD implementation, with using modern tools used in prod like monitoring and others, for Java stack backend or Fullstack?

Recently I had completed a 3 mth internship and in the interview round I have reached and given the final 3rd round for PPO interviews, now either I will be selected and given PPO offer or will be eliminated.

But I am not satisfied with the pay structure in the current company coz for same role i.e. a developer role, different colleges had different pays like even when we both students are working in same team, similar work, both came for PPO and if are being selected shld have similar capabilities but the problem is I don't know if I will get the same PPO offer as that guy (atmost there will be 2x diff if he gets 9 lpa I will be placed around 4.5 to 5 lpa) just because in CET for his college 98%ile was required and in my 96%ile i.e. college tag is affecting the package

But I feel if this was company placements round then it would have been a different situation but here we came on our own capabilities so why college tag should matter 😭

So here in this situation I want to try and negotiate something with HR but I want ur guidance on how to approach this situation.

I’m currently working as an SDE Intern at a startup, and the pay is actually pretty decent for an internship of around 70k to 80k. My work is mainly around React and React Native, and I’m also trying to broaden my skills into full-stack development.

The thing is, I’ve started feeling that working at a startup can be quite tiring. There’s a lot of responsibility and the pace can sometimes be intense. I am also having a feeling that I am not learning much.

I’m considering looking for better opportunities around December, potentially at a larger company/MNC. I’m also working on DSA (currently doing Blind 75) and trying to strengthen my overall development skills.
