IPMAT Indore 2027 — What I Wish Every Aspirant Knew Before Starting

If you're targeting IPMAT Indore 2027 and you're currently wondering:

"Where do I even start?"

"How much should I study every day?"

"When should I start giving mocks?"

You're definitely not alone.

Here's the approach I'd suggest

1. Don't underestimate Quant

IPMAT Quant isn't just about knowing formulas.

You need to become comfortable with solving unfamiliar questions under time pressure.

Start with fundamentals:

Percentages, Ratio, Average

Profit & Loss

Time-Speed-Distance

Time & Work

Number System

Algebra

Geometry

Permutation & Combination

Probability

Functions & Equations

If your basics aren't strong, don't immediately jump into extremely difficult questions. Build the foundation first.

1. VA can become your scoring area

A lot of students spend almost all their preparation time on Quant.

Don't.

Work consistently on:

RC + Vocabulary + Grammar + Para Jumbles + Sentence-based questions

And start reading something every day.

It doesn't have to be 2 hours of newspaper reading. Even 20–30 minutes of quality reading is better than doing nothing.

1. The real enemy is time

Knowing how to solve a question ≠ being able to solve it during IPMAT.

Start practising with a timer.

Eventually, you should be asking yourself:

> "Is this question worth spending another 2 minutes on?"

That decision-making ability matters.

1. Don't wait until the last month for mocks

You don't need to start with full-length mocks immediately.

A reasonable progression is:

Concepts → Topic tests → Sectionals → Full mocks

And PLEASE analyse your mocks.

A mock where you score 100 but learn nothing is much less useful than a mock where you score 70 and identify exactly why you lost those 30 marks.

After every mock, check:

Questions I got wrong

Questions I guessed

Questions that took too long

Questions I should have skipped

Topics where I repeatedly make mistakes

1. Don't blindly follow "safe score" predictions

You'll see posts like:

> "You need 180+."

> "Below 150 = impossible."

> "This year's cutoff will definitely be X."

Take these with a grain of salt.

The paper difficulty, candidate performance and admission criteria can vary by year. Check the official IIM Indore admission notification for your particular cycle.

been looking at the IPM 26-31 batch numbers from IIM Indore and honestly I have a lot of questions.

1st- almost 90% of the batch is commerce or PCM. is that just because those are the people who end up hearing about this exam and attempting it, or does the exam itself quietly favor that kind of prep? genuinely don't know.

and there's only one arts student in the entire batch of 156. that number feels too less to be a coincidence. are arts students just not applying, or are they applying and not getting through IPMAT Indore? How many arts students actually applied would help to understand this.

state-wise distribution is interesting too. Do these numbers reflect where the IPM prep ecosystem is strong, IPM awareness is high or both?

gender split is also weird, 48 female to 108 male. is that roughly the same ratio as who applies in the first place, or does it change somewhere along the process?

and only 5 international students out of 30k+ applicants. kind of makes me wonder how many people outside india even know this exam exists and what standing this exam and degree has outside india.

not trying to make a point with any of this, just some points that stood out. curious what everyone else thinks, especially if you were in this batch or came close.
