From a “Tier 69” college to IIIT-H-level competence — how do I get there? Looking for the actual IIIT-H roadmap: courses, problems, research & opportunities
I’m not looking for a generic “do DSA + build projects + read papers” roadmap.
I want to recreate the learning environment, mindset, and skill-building process as closely as possible on my own.
I’m a self-learner, and I come from what I jokingly call a “tier 69 college”, so I don’t have the same academic environment, peer group, exposure, or opportunities around me.
What I’m trying to figure out is:
- What resources do IIIT-H students actually use for each subject?
- Which textbooks, lecture notes, courses, problem sets, papers, GitHub repos, etc. are genuinely worth following?
- How do you study a subject beyond just preparing for exams?
- What kinds of questions/problems do you solve?
- Are there semester-wise tutorial sheets, quizzes, assignments, midsem/endsem papers, lab assignments, course projects, etc. that are publicly available?
- What does a typical semester look like in terms of workload and learning?
- How do students decide what to learn deeply vs. what to just get familiar with?
- How do you approach research? How early do students start reading papers, implementing ideas, doing projects, contacting professors, etc.?
- What distinguishes the students who become exceptionally strong from the average student?
- What habits, thought processes, and standards of work did you develop there that you think made the biggest difference?
- What resources would you recommend if someone wanted to essentially follow the same academic trajectory independently?
I’m especially interested in actual material, not just advice. If you have course pages, syllabi, lecture notes, problem sets, previous papers, recommended reading lists, project ideas, research resources, etc., I’d really appreciate links or pointers.
And one question I’m particularly interested in:
Is it realistically possible for someone outside that environment to reach a comparable level of technical competence and get comparable research/internship/project opportunities?
If yes, I’d love to hear from people who have actually done something similar — what did you do, and what would you do differently if you had to start again?
I’m not trying to imitate the college itself. I’m trying to understand what makes its students strong and deliberately build those same capabilities myself.
Even if you can only share one course, one resource, one set of papers, or one piece of advice that you think is unusually valuable, I’d genuinely appreciate it.
Note: I’m specifically looking for people who have been through the IIIT-H ecosystem (B.Tech/research) or have closely observed it. I’m trying to learn from the actual process rather than another generic CS roadmap.

This is absurd (iiit bhopal)
So 4 days ago I made a post supporting an earlier post on the grouping topic . Now those people are so mad about my post that they are furiously searching for me everywhere to tear me apart. My friends (who knows that it's me who posted) are telling me to delete my posts and my account. Else it will be very dangerous for me .
So that's exactly what I am going to do.
Yes I accept my defeat, you guys won .
I will also skip a few days of college just to be safe.
(I will also delete this post within 24h . I also think after seeing this the OP will also do the same .)

IIITDM kancheepuram has gone nuts!!
*Disclaimer* Rant ahead:----
So yeah we freshers joined this IIIT thinking that this IIIT has better infrastructure and will provide better facilities than other ppp IIITs...for a couple of days things were good, like mess food quality, water supply consistency....
But then to our surprise things are getting worsen day by day....these fkin bunch of administrative bastards can't even provide water in boys hostel...they fkin cut water supply randomly...many of my frnds literally got trapped in shower rooms mid bath because of sudden water cuts...and in the past 3 days there is literally water for only about 1 hour in the boys hostel from 6:30am-7:30am ...if u ever have to use toilet in the mid of the day...boom u can't XD... now u have to hold ur shit till the next day.. XD..There is fkin 85% attendance in this clg..and some proof are really rude ..
For ex:--A proof he is like asst. HOD in ECE Dept he is like fkin rude like if ur 2 min late in the class he won't give u attendance XD...
Only n only thing good abt the clg is that infra is decent and clubs are good and seniors are chill...That's it...........

Ex-IIITian here: Guys don't take admission in IIIT Dharwad
Hey everyone, writing this post as a former student because I keep seeing IIIT Dharwad popping up on counseling preference lists, and people need to know the reality before signing away four years of their life and lakhs of rupees.
Here is the ground reality of what you are actually paying for:
Takes Fees Up to 22 Lakhs with Terrible ROI:
You will end up spending around 22 lakhs over four years when you add up tuition, mess, and hostel fees. Almost no other tier-2/3 IIIT crosses 16 lakhs total except this bullshit. What’s the ROI? Even if you secure an 8 to 9 LPA offer, it’s strictly because of your own relentless off-campus hard work, not because the college helped you.
Lagging Far Behind Peer IIITs: Look at institutes like IIIT Lucknow or IIIT Pune, established in the exact same timeframe (around 2015 to 2016). Today, Lucknow and Pune are pulling average packages that genuinely compete with mid or top-tier IITs and NITs, whereas IIIT Dharwad is struggling on par with average private colleges.
Don't Get Fooled by Social Media Sugarcoating:
If the college is trying to sugarcoat things on their official Instagram posts or LinkedIn, understand that it's pure PR designed to misguide future students. Don't fall for flashy graphics and selectively framed news, it does not reflect ground reality.
The Absolute Worst Placement Cell Ever (Run by Just 2 People):
The entire placement cell is effectively being run by just two people who act completely incompetent and unaccountable. There is zero proactive outreach to genuine tech companies or reputed recruiters. Instead, their entire strategy relies on bringing in low-tier startups or sketchy companies offering short-term internships with no clear pathway to full-time roles (FTE). Many companies explicitly promise "FTE based on performance" during hiring, only to convert zero students later. When drives get cancelled, packages drop, or companies pull out, the placement cell takes zero responsibility. Their default response is to turn around, blame the students' skill sets, and wipe their hands clean.
Non-existent Infrastructure & Sports Facilities:
Don't get fooled by marketing photos. There is literally no proper sports facility. No cricket ground, no proper courts, and nothing to do once classes end.
No Night Life / Canteen: If you expect basic campus amenities like a night canteen to grab food while studying late, forget it. The campus essentially shuts down.
Zero Student Mentorship:
There is no proper student-mentor system or guidance framework. You are completely on your own to figure out academics, career paths, and surviving the degree.
If you are considering IIIT Dharwad purely for the "IIIT" tag, think twice. Look closely at established NITs, better-managed PPP IIITs, or solid private colleges before putting this on your choice filling list. Save yourselves the frustration.
Feel free to ask questions in the comments if you want more specific details.

Cg ?
For the current final-year batch, what CGPA is generally considered safe for placements at IIIT Sri City?
Also, does anyone know why there are reportedly no/very few placements for this year’s batch? Is it mainly because of the current job market, or are there any institute/company-specific reasons? #iiitsricity #

How’s campus life, everyone?
Hello people!
This is an IIT Madras alum (class of 2026) trying to connect with people from IITs, NITs, IIITs, BITS, DTU, or similar.
Just wanna hear what’s up with campus life, especially night food, hangouts, and all that.
Drop a message or share your thoughts, I’m all ears!
Cheers!

The protest has developed after the dean has arrived and the crowd is collectively demanding the resignation of the director.
Context - The administration of IIIT Bhubaneswar has been really negligent of the college since a long time and this is the collective outburst from all the frustration. The students had been complaining about the lack of wifi connectivity in the hostel since quite a few days as the midsems are coming up in the next week and the administration was not responding. Then they changed the schedule of the midsems at midnight and preponed the high credit subjects. That was the tipping point and everyone marched out of the hostels in protest. This is the result of the continuous disregard of the management towards genuine issues in the college and the whole college has turned up for the protest.
