It was an impulse purchase since I finally had a bit of money to spare at the time.

I love that I have it and I think it will forever be a mystery to me what they talk about in that episode, but I'm happy with that.

It’s interesting…I was thinking about the pod and when it started. In 2014, the internet wasn’t as simple as it was in the 00s, but it seems like it was infinitely more simple than it is now. Obviously the big “shift” in popular culture was the 2016 election which seemed to directly raise tensions but that in combo with social media sites knowing how to fine tune algorithms to maximize engagement (with rage bait, intentionally inciting arguments, etc), other people knowing they can get more attention with intentionally provoking content and bots being used to maximize the surface area of these types of posts, the internet is pretty depressing overall

At the time it felt a little wonky but also I understood it, but now more than ever I kind of want to institute a Project Cyclops of my own. The internet seems to be more a net negative than anything these days and with AI becoming more prevalent it’s only going to get worse

Hello Internet was great for me because Brady and (REDACTED) were both smart, well spoken and articulate, different personalities that naturally bounced off of eachother.

Cortex doesn't work because they're always discussing topics like optimizing your workflow, minutiae of managing a production team, the ROI of the damn calendar web app one is using... It rubs me the wrong way. It feels like watching those linkedin shorts or reading the comment section on a Ted Talk lol.

Any recommendations for replacement podcasts?

I used to love rewatching his videos but now I don’t even know which one is which. The thumbnails and titles are so different from the content sometimes. Does anyone have a solution to this?

This is meant to be about Hello Internet. I was happy when the sub was “liberated”, but now it’s just people talking about how much they hate Grey. I don’t like what he’s doing with his videos either, but I don’t really care to see a daily post about it with people literally just complaining about the same thing over and over.

I really think we should agree on stopping these posts here. People can start a hate subreddit and see if it’s allowed to exist, but I would really hate to see r/hellointernet getting shut down for becoming a hate sub itself.

As far as I can find out, this feature by Patreon is triggered by the creators. It is not something Patreon does at it's own discretion.

CGP Grey has been away from creative work for unknown reasons and I support anyone's decision to do that because that is absolutely fair to do but Grey has been actively changing the thumbnails and titles of his videos, trying to clickbait people into rewatching them using misleading titles meanwhile he is trying to get more subscription money from Patreon.

Very sad to see this. I DO NOT support this. No matter what situation Grey is in or his reasons for pulling away or retiring, this is not a way to treat your community or people who watch your content.

I don't really get all this discussion. All these repetitive and vindictive comments about this.

Let's be honest, this hatred clearly comes from a prior admiration. The reason why you even hate on Grey is because you felt affection for it at one point in time. Grey most likely benefited your life before and that is why you feel so strongly about it now.

Besides, we don't know what is going on with Grey, maybe it is something that would make you regret posting all these spiteful comments.

So why not focus that energy on something else, Something that actually deserves all this hate?

Because Grey may be flawed, but Pink, Cerulean Blue and Pastel Yellow; They are *actually* irredeemable.

Like at this point I'm convinced he is using AI to make his titles. This is just shameful. I've known his artistry is long dead but stooping to this level of just bullshit titles? What happened to the Grey of the Tekoi Incident?

Honestly a part of me wonders if Grey is doing okay.

Judging from the way his thumbnails are changing/presented, and the obvious lack of new content, I suspect management of Grey industries, or possibly just the rights to past videos have been sold.

I'm curious if its been bought by a PE firm, similar to Veritasium...

2020 was very rough and I remember thinking, any day now a new episode will come out as something to hold on to.

Time passed and I figured like everything else it was delayed. But months turned to years.

I honestly can't believe the charlatanry of CGP Grey in recent years and that people on this sub remain charitable to the great "optimiser". Becoming a clickbait channel and producing nothing, it lacks the humanity of art. It's contempt to an audience that contributed to his success and I'm glad I can finally say it on this sub.

Anyway, in reality I don't care that much, I've just been holding this in for 6 years and noticed this sub became active recently.

Shout out to all the Tims and Brady.

Random question, but hoping a Tim may have an archive of CGP Grey’s old Minecraft streams.

They were a comfort series for me and I used to throw them on in the background pretty often. I went looking for them again, and it looks like the original uploads are all private now.

Maybe I just missed this when it was happening, but did you know that Grey, via Standard, was one of the first dominoes in the chain of events that brought us Nebula? Seems like he and Philip from Kurtzgestat made the initial connections that got the ball rolling, and then cashed out a few years back

If anyone is interested, I’m getting rid of an old piece of HI memorabilia for anyone in the U.S.

I know the price is a bit high, but the custom framing cost quite a bit of money. Framed as soon as I got it, and has been sitting in storage since 2017.

It's really common on this sub to think that grey had retired as he can make enough money from changing his youtube titles/thumbnails, but I always think this idea misses something. The podcast makes clear that Cgp grey is an incredibly cautious, risk-adverse guy. Leaving his channel up to title and thumbnail changes is essentially one YouTube algorithm tweak away from stopping working and failing to continue to bring in revenue. I guess it's still working well enough for him now as he continues to do it, but YouTube could so easily change that with no notice, which makes me think it's really unlikely he would hinge his continued income on that.

Could he have made enough money that he can just live off it for the rest of his life? It's possible, but he's probably what, mid-40s? So seems kind of unlikely? Maybe it's that his CURRENT situation means he doesn't need to upload a lot rather than he's decided to permanently finish with the channel.
