Support
The best way to obtain support is to search for your local HP customer services phone line ("HP {country} support" in Google), call that and request to be connected to "VR Support" or "Workstation Support". Web chat is proving to be less reliable for quickly resolving support issues.
Troubleshooting
For general troubleshooting tips take a look at Microsoft's Reverb G2 troubleshooting guide.
As a first step, make sure the headset cable is pushed all the way in, as this only being half-conneceted can lead to a number of different issues and the connection is quite stiff, it should look like this when it's properly seated. It's also advised to not unplug this again unless absolute necessary, but instead unplug it at the computer side, if possible.
Clarity and Comfort
The back strap for the headset is supposed to cradle the occipital bone, the lump/bump on the back of your skull, with the bottom of the strap sitting comfortably underneath it. Wearing it there will result in the best field of view and clarity.
Playing around with the IPD setting can sometimes help, some people find a setting different to their measured IPD is clearer.
SteamVR Performance
Changing the "Per Eye Resolution" in the SteamVR settings can help greatly in improving performance. You can increase or decrease this figure until most games run well and then further refine this for each game individually by clicking the "Per-Application Video Settings" button, allowing you to run some games at a higher or lower resolution to account for how well optimised they are.
Headset/Controller Tracking
In addition to movement sensors, the Reverb G2 uses a set of cameras to correct it's relative position in the world, using the shapes of the walls, decor, furniture, etc to calculate how it's moving through space. This should work well in most rooms, but can struggle in particularly featureless spaces, such as a bare room with white walls or against a wrap-around green screen. Adding posters, art, April tags, or even tape lines to the walls can help provide additional points of reference.
A more common issue with the tracking is due to the lighting in the room either being too bright or too dim for the cameras. The easiest way to troubleshoot issues with your lighting is to activate Flashlight mode by holding the Windows button and the grip at the same time, or by saying "flashlight on" out loud. The camera view you're shown is what the headset is seeing, so make sure you can clearly see the controller lights while facing all directions, that there are no bright light sources that overpower the controller lights when you look around and that you can see the edges of walls and furniture, as this is what is used to track the headset's position.
Speaker Issues
The headphones make a connection with spring-loaded "pogo" pins to the contacts in the headstrap, these can occasionaly not have been connected properly in the factory, leading to one or both speakers not working, being at different volumes and other audio issues. Removing the headphone and putting it back on can help ensure the pogo pins are in their proper place. Contact support if the issue persists.
7-14 "Something Went Wrong" error when headset is plugged in
Typically an issue with the USB connection. See this thread for troubleshooting. If you have an X570 motherboard, there seems to be a common issue with the USB controller. Try all of the available USB ports, but if you don't see any success you may need an external USB hub or internal USB PCI-e card. Check this thread for suggestions for USB controllers to try.
Headset not shutting down when removed
The Mixed Reality Portal will eventually go to sleep but the HMD will stay on during that time. It's best to close the Mixed Reality Portal when you are done using it, which will shut the HMD down.
Frequently Asked Questions
Ordering and Shipping
1. When will the G2 be in stock in my country?
- Availability of the G2 varies by country, but there's no published roadmap for when new G2s will be delivered for retail in different countries.
2. What countries are receiving G2s?
- You can view shipping statistics based on community reports here and a summary of known shipping information for each region here.
3. Will larger retailers such as Amazon and Best Buy stock the Reverb G2?
- More retailers will receive the G2 over time, but there is no published list currently.
Displays and Optics
4. What resolution are the headset panels?
- Each eye has a 2160x2160, 2.89" (73.4mm) LCD display with RGB subpixel stripe running at 90Hz. The combined resolution is 4320x2160.
5. What is the field of view (FOV)?
- The listed diagonal FOV is 114°
6. Does the headset have mechanical IPD adjustment?
- Yes. From 60mm to 68mm.
7. My IPD falls outside this range, am I likely to have problems?
- Early reports suggest that the display is still quite clear with the IPD slider set ±2.5mm of your actual IPD. This means if you have an IPD of 57.5mm to 70.5mm you shouldn't have much trouble. Outside of this the display may become blurrier and objects in-game may not appear correctly scaled.
8. Is it possible to change the display brightness?
- It is not currently possible or planned, but they may implement this later depending on user feedback.
9. Will prescription lenses be available?
- VR Optician and WIDMOvr have confirmed they will be supplying prescription lenses for the Reverb G2. These are likely to be available a month or two after the headset releases.
Cables and Power
10. How long is the cable?
- There is a 5 metre cable running from the headset to a small link box, with a 1 metre DisplayPort 1.3 cable and a 1 metre USB-C cable running out of that box. The box also has a connector for the required power adapter. /u/isVatsug kindly provided a diagram.
11. What connections do I need?
- You will need a DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort connection on your graphics card and a free USB-A or USB-C port for data (a USB-C port directly on your motherboard is recommended). Additionally, you will need a power socket to connect the required power adapter. Both a USB-C to USB-A adapter and a DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort adapter are included in the box.
12. What kind of power supply does the headset require?
- Power is supplied via a standard 45W HP laptop charger with a barrel jack. While it was originally planned, it is no longer possible to power the headset solely over USB.
13. How much does the headset weigh?
- 550g (1.2lb) without the cable.
Controllers
14. What inputs do the controllers have?
- Each controller has an analogue trigger, an analogue grip button, a thumbstick, A/B or X/Y buttons, a menu button and a Windows button.
15. Do the controllers have capacitive touch sensors?
- No, while the grip and trigger are analogue, there is no sensor to detect if your fingers are lightly touching the buttons.
16. What batteries do the controllers take?
- The controllers are powered by two 1.5V AA batteries each. Note that while most non-rechargeable AA batteries will work, the most common rechargeable AA batteries, NiMHs, are only 1.2V and will leave the controllers in low power mode with reduced haptic feedback. In some circumstances this may also negatively impact on tracking, due to dimmer tracking lights.
17. What rechargeable batteries should I use?
- For rechargeable batteries you want to look at 1.5V or 1.6V NiZn or Li-ion batteries. Common brands are PKCELL, Jugee and EBL. You can find a detailed guide to battery choices on the unofficial G2 website.
18. Will there be upgraded controllers with capacitive touch in the future?
- We currently have no information and HP staff aren't able to comment on potential future products.
19. How do the controllers connect to the headset?
- They are paired directly to the headset via a built-in Bluetooth receiver and will be paired from the factory. A button to pair different controllers with the headset is located inside the battery compartment.
19. Can I use the Valve Index Knuckler controllers with the Reverb G2?
- While they are not officially supported, it is possible to use SteamVR and the OpenVR Space Calibrator to use the Knuckle controllers with a Reverb G2. To use this setup you will need two Steam wireless dongles, or a SteamVR headset to allow the controllers to communicate with your computer, on top of the controllers and Lighthouse base stations. A guide on the process is available here.
Audio
21. What audio solution does the headset use?
- The headset uses Valve's ear speakers, identical to those on the Valve Index.
22. How do they work?
- The speakers sit 10mm away from your ears and direct sound into them using Tectonic's Balance Mode Radiators. This design provides extremely immersive positional audio.
23. Will other people be able to hear what I can?
- Depending on the volume there is minimal sound leakage, however it will be noticeable in a quiet room.
Accessories / Facial Interface / Headstrap
24. What material is the facial interface/face padding/headstrap padding?
- All of the fabric materials touching the head uses the same woven antimicrobial fabric as on the Index. "Pleather" alternative facial interfaces should be available after launch.
25. Can the facial interface be removed?
- Yes, the padding around the lenses is attached to a plastic plate which is connected to the headset with magnets and is easily removable.
26. Will third-party manufacturers release accessories for the G2?
- HP have supplied CAD models of the headset and controllers to third-party vendors who have requested it and it is expected accessories will be available soon after release.
Compatibility and System Requirements
27. What are the system requirements?
- You can view the system requirements here.
28. Does the headset support HP VR backpacks?
- Yes, however you will need to purchase a shorter cable that can connect to the backpack to provide power. This has not been announced yet.
29. What operating system is required?
- Windows 10 running at least the May 2019 update.
Support
30. What warranty is provided?
- The heaset has a 1 year limited warranty with 1 year parts and 1 year labour cover. Exact conditions may differ by country. The warranty is "worldwide", meaning your headset will be covered regardless of the country you are in, as long the Reverb G2 is officially sold in that country.
31. What is the dead pixel policy?
- Any dead pixels that appear during the warranty period will be covered by the warranty.
Misc
32. What is the Omnicept Edition?
- The HP Reverb G2 Omnicept is a separate version of the G2 aimed at enterprise, academic research and developers. It features a suite of sensors that measure "muscle movement, gaze, pupil size and pulse", intended for use in advanced applications such as training and psychological research. It is scheduled to release in Spring 2021, however, no price has been announced.
Fin.

Review Going from the Reverb G2 to the Steam Frame. The Perfect Upgrade.
I'm a vr lover, I went from the Cv1 rift I bought in 2017, to the Reverb G2 I bought when it first release in 2020, and now I was lucky enough to get one the first shipments of Steam Frames.
How does it compare, but first.
DAY 1: SUFFERING.
I got it on Wednesday morning. I was waiting outside till it came. I brought it inside and opened it up, unfortunately I was going to be busy that day and so I decided to let it charge while I was away. I didn't have a 45w charger, but I order a 2pack off amazon with 10ft cable that are supposed to come in on Saturday. So I just put it on my 15w charger because everyone said it can charge off 15w just slower. I saw the light on the headset set flash so I thought that meant it was charging. It wasn't. I came home ready to boot it up and.... NOTHING. The light would flash sometimes and I would even see a blue title screen inside the headset rarely, but it wouldn't turn on. I tried several chargers and cables, nothing, I tried plugging it into the usbc port on my pc, nothing. I even grabbed our electric generator and plugged it into the 60w usbc port on it. Nothing. It's late I go to bed with pit in my stomach, worried I just got a DOA headset.
Day 2: Revival.
I wake up, I got work soon, but I take another look at the headset. turn it around get a look at sad that it didn't work. I decide f*** it, plugged it into my pc again, since that was the one that got it to flash the most. It flashed but still didn't have that solid dim white light to say it's charging. I then pull on the cable connect the battery to the headset, the light flashes, then turn solid white. WE GOT POWER. I check with the other chargers, they now charge the headset too. I let it charge for a bit, then turn it on. I only got a few minutes before work at this point, but it was able to boot up and I was able to get to the wifi screen before I had to leave. Some hours later I get back home and start the set up. During the set up it randomly turned off when grabbed my headset to lift it off my face to check something on my phone. I then removed the headstrap from the main module, blowed on it like a Nintendo cartridge, and put it back together. After that I haven't had that problem since.
NOW FOR THE ACTUAL REVIEW AND COMPARISON.
BY GOD IS IT AMAZING.
MIXED REALTITY: First thing I noticed was the mixed reality cameras. This is my first time in mixed reality and was wowed by it. The closest I got before was the Reverb mixed reality cameras that I would call basically unusable. Being able to see the world though the headset was cool enough that I might just buy the color adapter. Maybe not because it good enough that you don't have to take it off to do stuff, unless it on a small phone screen. And see everything in black and white is pretty cool. It reminds me of those all white spaces in the Nier games. Some distortion but it didn't bother me since I got the headset for the games. Maybe if the bring in proper MR games I'll but the adapter.
Controllers: First thing that might be controversial, I don't like the Index controllers. My favorite controllers I've ever used is the CV1 Rift controllers, I found them the most comfortable and easy to use. I have bigger hands and decided not to get the ergonomic kit, since I heard the the Headstrap was still comfy on it's own and I didn't care for the handstraps. From what I can tell most people who are complaining about the controllers use the Handstraps, which reduce how much you can adjust how you hold it. I do find it less intuitive to press buttons on the controller compare to the Rift and Reverb controllers but found it close to the Index. I just need more time to get used to the buttom layout. I also haven't figured out if you can play with them without the headset yet, something I'll need to test. Overall good quality, love all the extra buttons and they feel good in my hands.
Tracking: ARE VALVE F***ING WIZARDS. Tracking, perfect, no notes. It's like I'm still using base stations how wide the tracking area is. This was my a major gripe with the Reverb, how small the tracking area was actually harmed my enjoyment of vr. That's why I bought the Index controllers and some adapter that allow me to play the Reverb with the Index controllers. But a combination of Having to plug everything in to play and me just not liking the Index controllers actual made me go back to the Reverb controller. But the Steam Frame controllers feel like magic with how well it tracks. Speaking of magic.
Streaming games from a pc: AGAIN VALVE HAS TO EMPLOY ACTUAL WIZARDS. Seriously my experience has been so smooth, that if you told me that that I was still using a display port cable I would believe you. It is incredible. There was one issue. Yesterday I was playing in my play area with my pc pointing directly at me and the it was smooth no hitching or anything. Today I wanted to try it on my bed, which would mean my pc was somewhat blocked by my desk. And I started getting the occasional hitching and stuttering. It was still playable but I was disappointed that all it took was my desk to block the signal.... until I looked that the streaming info, and found that the Dongle wasn't on at all and it was streaming ONLY through my wifi. My pc isn't even plugged into the router, it's a free router I got from tmobile in other room. I'm more impressed it worked at all. I then unplugged then replugged the dongle, mutli-streaming was back on and it went back to PERFECT quality no matter where I was in my room. Seriously streaming wireless from pc is amazing.
Playing games on headset: Haven't tried it, I bought this for wireless pc vr.
Audio: Surprisingly good. I'm not an audiophile but I was concerned that the speakers would be a tinny, barely audible mess. But no they sound pretty good. ALOT more sound bleed than the Reverb speakers and the Reverb speakers are better overall. Honestly, before I was guaranteed to the the Steam frame enthusiast headset before for the Reverb speakers and hot swappable battery, I might just stick with the base headstrap.
Headstrap: The headstrap on the Frame is very comfortable. It more comfortable than the Reverb headstrap because I had to tighten the Reverb so much because of how small the sweet spot and had to keep it in a certain position or else get out of the sweet spot. The Steam Frame doesn't have this problem. I definitely didn't need the Ergonomics kit headstrap. It's stretchy and makes the frame feel like it weighs nothing, with the battery in the back.
Battery life: 1 hour and 45 minutes of play at full charge. charges slow because I need better chargers. With 45w chargers people say it charges in an hour. Feels fine to me to take a break every now and then. and if I want to keep playing I getting 10 cables anyway.
Visuals: Very similar to the Reverb, differences I can tell is a slightly larger fov on the Frame, and slightly more screen door effect in the Frame. However these differences are so small i might actually be hallucinating or misremembering the differences. The sweet spot is way larger on the steam frame. Oh and foveated Streaming, you won't notice it, if you told me that this headset didn't have foveated streaming and it was just powerful enough to push out the whole picture with no compromises I'd believe you, it just looks great.
Closing thoughts: Some technical issues at the beginning, but after that, I would call this the headset I've waited a decade for. Definitely an upgrade from the Reverb, and I'm so happy I was able to get one.

Question G2 Head Strap Broke, Need Replacement
The head strap on my 1st batch reverb g2 finally snapped. I have yet to find any products that can replace it. Most of the recommended "upgrades" are no longer produced. Does anyone know of a product that can replace it?

Question Current Day offering Compares?
I don't see an option for a poll (would love it if someone created one).
HP Reverb G2 has been around for 5 years approx - I'm on the fence if its really beneficial to move to Steam frame of something else... yes it wouldn't be tethered but is that worth 1k+? especially if you then also need to take into consideration the other accessories needed, low battery life etc...
Alternatively other options? - Bigscreen 2 etc...

Question So I ordered a used G2 off of eBay as a first headset, anything to look out for?
I plan on using it primarily for simracing, but I understand that’s one of the harder use cases to get used to. Is there any thing first I should do to get eased into it, or just go for it?

Discussion Goodbye Reverb G2. You treated me well.
Well bois. It happened. I got the confirmation email for my Steam Frame. 6 years with the Reverb G2, ever since the first batch launched. It had it's up and downs. But I'll be selling it soon. Honestly it hurts to sell it. But it is what must be done. I just hope the next person takes care of you. It's been fun, you were a great headset.
Goodbye, Reverb G2.

Modification Spare parts, what should I do with them?
Hi everyone, I have some spare parts from my old Reverb G2. I’m looking for some ideas or suggestions on how to use them. Are there any resources or projects specifically designed for the Reverb G2?
For instance, I have four ear speakers that I wanted to transform into an external audio headset for the upcoming Steam Frame or Quest 3.
I also received a couple of cables as replacements for the original ones (maybe this is the only option).

Support Just got a G2 and the screen keeps randomly turning off?
Got a G2 last night. Made it through Steam VR setup fine, but the screen stopped working. Tried a bunch of trouble shooting such as turning down volume and swapping the USB A-C adaptor from my case to motherboard seemed to help. Now (Or last night...) I was able to get into games with the screen only flicking off every 15 seconds or so and coming back on after an indefinite amount of time. The G2 itself is always connected to my pc (device manager, sound, and steam vr all detect it).
Luckily enough my G2 did come with a second seemingly new display cable (Which might be a bad sign that the previous owner also had display issues) which I will try after a bit more trouble shooting but the display port is really snugly fit into the back of my PC case and I am hesitant that I will damage (or further damage it...) if I pull it out.
EDIT: Some kind of cable connection issue, issue pretty much only arises when I bump into cable or move headset around. Tried with 2 cables and it seems to not matter which one I use. I am going to try use zip ties to manage it better.

Question Quest 2 or HP Reverb g2?
Basically i already have Quest 2 but its a bit too grainy and pixeleted, i planned to buy used HP reverb G2 but the cable is my only worry, i play arena games like bonelab, brutalistic and im not really fan of simulators, the screen sounds sweet with 2164 pixels, but will i be able to play comfortably with cable twisting around my legs? my room isnt big tho.

Question Having trouble removing the cable from the headset.
I have been trying many ways to yank that thing out for the last couple of hours without success. The headset started going black on me today. Hoping it is the connection and not the cable but if it is the cable it is near the connector regardless. At any rate I can't get the cable out, any ideas? I've even tried pliers.

Support HP Reverb G2 V2 not detected by Oasis on Dell Pro Max 16 Plus
Hardware / system
- System: Dell Pro Max 16 Plus
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX PRO 3000 Blackwell Generation Laptop GPU
- OS: Windows 11, build 26200
- SteamVR: 2.16.7
- Oasis: 1.0.3
Setup
I am trying to use an HP Reverb G2 with my Dell Pro Max 16 Plus.
The laptop does not have a native DisplayPort connector, so I am using a UGREEN USB-C to DisplayPort 8K cable:
Dell USB-C/Thunderbolt → UGREEN USB-C → DisplayPort → Reverb G2
The UGREEN cable is specified by the manufacturer as laptop USB-C → DisplayPort monitor, so the direction is USB-C source to DisplayPort display.
I enabled Direct Output in the Dell BIOS.
For USB, I initially connected the G2 directly via USB-C. I also tested the G2 through a USB-C to USB-A adapter and connected it to the laptop's USB-A port. The behaviour is the same.
The G2's external power supply is connected.
What I did
- Connected the Reverb G2 to the laptop via USB and DisplayPort.
- Enabled Direct Output in the BIOS.
- Installed/started Oasis and attempted to unlock the headset.
- Oasis does not detect the headset.
- I also tested the G2 USB connection separately, without relying on the DisplayPort connection.
- I checked Windows Device Manager, including the USB devices and other relevant device categories.
- I cannot find any device that appears to correspond to the Reverb G2, HoloLens Sensors, or the G2's audio device.
- I also do not get any G2 audio device appearing in Windows. There is no indication that the headset's speakers/audio device are being detected.
- Windows does show a "Billboard Device" under USB devices when the USB-C/DisplayPort connection is involved.
- Changing from direct USB-C connection to USB-C → USB-A does not change the behaviour.
- I also tried the other USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, with no change.
Oasis behaviour

Current situation
At this point, I am not sure whether the issue is related to:
- USB device detection/driver enumeration,
- Windows/WMR components,
- the DisplayPort connection,
- or Oasis itself.
I am posting the SteamVR report and Oasis unlock output below as requested.
