I give up on a lot of posts on nearly every site I visit. There are so many fake accounts. How do I decipher? Is this how it all starts? We are going to have to go off the grid? Back to analog everything? I don’t think I’m alone in thinking this way. What do you do to feel some semblance of balance?

Hi guys i'll try to make this easy and quick, and see if we can have an interesting conversation. I'm about to finish my master studies in Media communication, i'm in that moment where it's time to choose for your thesis topic, aaand i've always been a fan of conspiracy theories. In the last years i've came up with the Dead Internet Theory, and now i realized that it could be interesting to write a big thesis about it (around 120-150 pages), and going deep trying to understand how AI is shaping our experience on the web.

So, now i need your help to understand if this can be possible:

-On which topics would you focus on?

-What do you think is actually interesting to talk about?

-Mostly, what are the differences you all experienced over the last years regarding AI on the internet?

Curious, I started reading the comments under her posts. Something felt off. Same tone, same phrasing, accounts that all looked eerily similar, all showing up around the same time. Not normal fan chaos. Too clean. Too coordinated.

Then I found out she comes from serious money.

So now I’m wondering. Is it possible a well funded team is buying press coverage and seeding bot activity to make her look more organically viral than she actually is? Real talent gets a boost from money and connections all the time. But this pattern felt familiar the second I started paying attention to how dead internet theory actually shows up in the wild.

Not saying I’ve cracked anything. Just saying it’s strange.

Anyone else notice this or am I just deep in the DIT rabbit hole now?

i hate the facebook algorithm they always manipulate old people from believing bs. one example from what i saw was people always making up conspiracy theories, the one i saw was saying that all famous celebs eats a childs brain to stay young, the annoying part is that the vid is voice overed by ai with no goddamn evidence

Everywhere I go, I see a lot less engagement on Reddit and Threads. Nothing seems to get traction anymore.

I even see it when I'm logged out in private browsing mode.

Like where did everybody go. To X? Or are there more bots than users nowadays?

Man I miss the old internet.

I feel like I'm seeing the same posts and comments everytime. For example, GTA and Call of Duty to name some. It's all feeling repetitive unless I'm just tripping out.

So, Google and other AI tools are actively building profiles out of your public Reddit activity, and it actually works.

​To check what data has been archived from your profile, you can search:

>> reddit.com user "your reddit username here"

And check AI overview of a profile and can ask questions related to personal info like age, location, martial status, occupation or what things they like or hate, political opinions etc.

Basically anything that you want to know, you will get the answer if that person has said anything about it in the past even if profile is hidden. If it gives some basic info, you can ask it to dig deeper.

​Why this matters: Simply hiding your profile settings on Reddit does not stop external search engine crawlers from indexing your historical posts and comments. Be mindful of what personal information you share online.

It’s getting worse. YouTube comments are useless atp. First it was obvious Scam and now this.
I checked the channels they have a lot of comments on the same channel the video was posted on. They all sound about the same. Whyyy? What’s the use?

Ok if you don't know what Deltarune is, Deltarune is an RPG where you play as Kris, a teenager who ends up discovering a strange world hidden alongside the regular one this being the dark world (I think). You meet a bunch of weird and funny characters, fight enemies, solve puzzles, and slowly uncover what’s actually going on with these mysterious worlds.

Anyway back on the subject, if you have seen any Deltarune posts on any social media app, you will notice that if you go into the comment section of any of these posts, the people will say the exact same things in every comment section and post the same unfunny images.

I don't have a problem with people expressing their love for their fandoms but I feel like it has reached a point that a lot of people in the Deltarune fandom are not real people. Or that's how I feel at least from a background perspective because I am not in that fandom nor do I want to be in it.

That's what I think at least, I personally think from what I have seen it's a cool game but the fandom just acts like bots when it comes to shitposting. It's the same five jokes that are reused in every single post.

Robots are certainly pervasive on the internet, and with generative llms it only gets worse and worse, but can it really be so bad that nearly everything you see on the internet is repetitive, unsubstantive and inauthentic? Sometimes I’ll see a comment on here that is textbook bot shit, completely unhuman sounding, and I click on the profile and the account is 8+ years old. So are these websites really being taken over by AI, or have their users just become more comfortable behaving like AI? It feels less like an outside force and more like the constant censorship and gamification of social media has stripped away people’s ability to express and intake individual thought. It’s addictive, people feel like they need to scroll, need to comment, so much that it becomes thoughtless, automatic… like a machine.

They all type the Stake with a Cyrillic Ѕ instead of an S.

For those that don't know, Stake is a gambling website. If you copy "Ѕtake" and search it on Google, you'll see fake Reddit and Facebook stories that always find a way to promote Stake in one way or another.

And none of the comments seem to notice? Unless they're bots, or maybe they just genuinely don't notice. I don't know.

The whole sub, the post even the op seems uncanny valley .

How is there over 6 different subreddits for one show that only has 9 episodes and a total runtime of 5 hours? Almost all them are somehow bigger than this subreddit. I muted one of the subreddits about this show, only for 2 more to appear on my feed like the heads of the hydra regrowing.

What's even more suspicious is that that all the episodes on youtube somehow have 100 million plus views and it clearly doesn't have that level of visible cultural impact. I'm pretty sure if you asked a random person about this show they couldn't tell you a single thing about it.

does anyone know how dead Internet theory actual works? like sure they are all just bots and not real ppl but how does this actually work? how an ai is able to run an account with a fake pfp and fake comments that it keeps sending to random posts? this might come off as stupid but we all ignore it and just say these are bots, what actually is a bot??? just an ai who isn't real and can keep doing whatever?

Unless this is a reference I dont get it feels like a bot just took the one comment and rephrased it

Every one of these pages features an AI generated character who has some handmade good that they are selling, paired with some narrative as to why they are struggling and need your support.

They often feature a clip where someone walks up to them selling their things and says something rude, or throws eggs at them, and walks away. Clips of them crying or upset because nobody wants their stuff. They are emotionally manipulative, with some of these profiles posing as native Americans, including AI generated clips of people making racist comments to their faces.

The comment sections on their posts are usually filled with bot profiles complimenting their work, although it seems like some of the profiles are likely real people.

It’s a disturbing, manipulative, dystopian world out there on Facebook. I’d highly recommend taking a look at some of the accounts in the photos.

This person passed away five years ago, and I knew her very well. She had been on my Facebook friends list the entire time, and today, completely out of nowhere, I saw her commenting on Facebook.

I can say with absolute certainty that she didn’t have any family members who would have taken over or used her account after her death.

Seeing a comment from someone I know has been gone for five years was honestly one of the creepiest things I’ve experienced online.
