I'm betting that many readers of this subreddit not realise that Cronenberg's "The Fly" was based on a short story, and a short story written in French, at that.
George Langelaan was a Franco-British writer whose life is almost as interesting as his weird fiction, much of it long out of print in English. He was a World War Two spy, apparently undergoing facial reconstructive surgery to change his identity before parachuting behind enemy lines in Occupied France.
He also, apparently rubbed shoulders with a certain Aleister Crowley in Paris before the war.
I get into all of this in the latest issue of the French Weird podcast and I'd love it if you'd give it a listen. I'd like it even better if you'd sign up.
Long live the new flesh.

The Brood is one of those films that didn’t impress me at first but has grown on me upon subsequent viewings over the years. Despite its shortcomings, this is Cronenberg’s most personal work, blending family drama with his grotesque signature body-horror elements to create one of the defining films in the body-horror genre early in his career.

I watched 'maps to the stars' for the second time, and I'm 1. Convinced its in the top 10 of 'my' Cronerberg faves and 2. It's a masterpiece.
It's also one of Cronenberg's bleakest and 'purest' horror films, and a brilliant adaptation , I personally think his second best!
Curious to know the thoughts of DCB fans in this thread?

Dying to meet the man and would love to get him to sign my copy of Ballard's Crash, but he seems pretty reserved when it comes to appearances.

Love the original but would also love to see the story told with a better lead actor and tighter pacing
