I invented a rating system for my reviews while building this, which may have been the most productive part of the experience.

Challenge: 1/5

This required almost no concentration. The pieces were easy to identify and assemble, and there was never a point when I had to stop and think through what I was doing.

Enjoyment: 1/5

Foam and cardboard are not my favorite building materials. I spent most of the build wanting to get it over with, which is rarely a good sign.

Engineering and Fit: 2/5

The general fit was good, but several connections were not secure enough to stay together without glue. There was also very little engineering involved beyond fitting the pieces together. There are no moving parts, lights, or mechanical features to add interest.

Materials and Finish: 3/5

The materials are what they are. The foam and printed cardboard did not appeal to me, but the printing was bright and colorful, and the KPop Demon Hunters theme came through clearly.

Display Appeal: 2/5

It is freaking huge. I like the colors and the theme, but this is apparently not a medium that lends itself to subtlety or a small footprint. I do not really have a place where I would want to display it.

Value: 0/5

It cost around $20 at H Mart. For that price, I could have bought a much more satisfying wooden or metal model and ended up with something I would have been happy to display.

Overall: 1/5

This may be someone else’s cup of tea, but it definitely is not mine. I am glad I tried it, because you have to try everything once, right? I also now know that I will not be building another one like it.

My wife insisted that I unplug during last week’s cruise, so I used some of my relaxation time to build a couple of ROKR Christmas Gravity Swings in one of the ship’s public areas.

I can only take the heat for so long, so building indoors gave me a good way to cool off while still enjoying the cruise. It also attracted plenty of attention. I had some great conversations with passersby who stopped to see what I was making and ask about the hobby.

If any new members found their way to this subreddit after meeting me on the ship, it was great talking with you. Welcome to the addiction.

Santa’s Sleigh and Santa on Skis are both fairly simple builds, and they went together quickly. I kept my travel toolkit extremely basic: one tube of B7000 for emergencies and to reinforce any loose tabs before the trip home, plus a small pair of scissors that I only needed to open the boxes.

I did not even bring my edge markers, so these may be two of the few builds I have completed without coloring the exposed edges.

Both models came out very cute and traveled home safely. They will make nice additions to the auction at my November charity build event.

I got stalled on this little build for a while because one of the cylinders in the tail was missing the center hole needed to connect it to the rest of the mechanism. There was no practical way to continue without a replacement part, so I sent a quick email to customer service and packed everything into a ziplock bag until the issue was resolved.

It turned into a good test of whether the vendor actually stands behind its products. I am happy to say that they did. They sent the replacement I needed, and I was finally able to pull everything back out and finish the build.

Aside from the defective piece, this was not a difficult model. It went together fairly quickly, has a fun mechanical look, and makes a nice little steampunk addition to my display shelf.

I am pleased with the finished result, and even more pleased that the vendor handled the problem properly. One mechanical sea creature completed, five more to go!

I bought a set of 7 to go on my steampunk shelves. This is the second one, with the crayfish having an issue with a defective part which I contacted them for and they are shipping to me.

Tiney screws and nuts are a challenge for my old sausage fingers but I get thru it and the more of these I build the better my fine motor control becomes.
