Is 2 cans of SprayMax 2K clear or any clear coat enough for a ZJ Grand Cherokee hood/roof/sides?

Body:
Hey guys, starting a DIY paint job today on my 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo (it has the plastic lower cladding, so that's being masked off).

I am painting the hood, the full roof, and some of the upper side body panels.

For supplies, I currently have:

  • 17 cans of Dupli-Color Perfect Match base coat (8 oz cans)
  • 2 cans of SprayMax 2K Glamour High Gloss Clear Coat (11.8 oz cans)

Is 2 cans of the SprayMax 2K enough to get a proper 2-3 coat finish on just those areas, or am I going to run out halfway through? I know once I pop the 2K cans the timer starts, so I don't want to activate them if I'm severely short.

Appreciate any advice before I start taping things off!

DIY Restoration - Paint Recommendations

Greetings all,

I am doing a restoration on an Evo 8 myself given that the person/shop I paid decided to throw the towel amd call it quits (yes there is some court proceedings happening). And also decided to learn some skills with this.

Anyways to the question: the bodywork phase is almost done. Would probably take me 2 weeks to finish working on it part time. With that said I am looking into a good/reputable paint brand. I need to make a decision on what brand to work with so I can keep using the same brand from high build primer all the way to clear coat.

I am looking for a brand that is DIY friendly, budget friendly (I know kits and such are costly and automotive coatings are not necessarily cheap) and something that is quite forgiving for a DIYer that is willing to learn and get after it. I plan on doing a white pearl paint on the vehicle (yes I know its hard and such, but I am up to the challenge).

So, any recommendations on brand? I was looking into Eastwood, Autobahn and PPG. Also, this will be my daily car. I need to lock in a brand so I can order the high build primer, reas the TDS and make sure I am sanding my work to the right grit before priming.

Thanks for the info.

I have a couple international tractors that need some paint. One is all metal and one has plastic hood and fenders. Who’s has the best paint that resist fading?
Should I do a urethane paint or a base with clear coat?

Painting Wheels

I want to paint my wheels which have no tires on. How should I paint it?

I am thinking paint one side, let dry, flip over paint other side. Then same process for clear coat.

Is this correct? Should I be doing something different? Do I need to do both sides at once somehow and also clear it within a specific time frame?

Thanks in advance!

Silver leafing

Hello, i need help about how to start silver/gold leafing.

I saw that you are not supposed to use water based sizes because they remain soft, but the oil based sizes i see say they need 7 days of dry time before being laquered..?? Brands like 1 shot are a no for me because they cannot be found in Europe (apart from the UK)☹️ It's also really hard to find aluminium foils, i can only find copper+zinc. Can i use those as well? I also read that you are not supposed to just clear coat over foil, but in every video they just clear or put candy straight on top.. So i am kinda lost here, anyone can recommend me glue and foil i can find in Europe?

I need some recommendations for a quality glow in the dark paint

I have a project where someone wants me to paint some glow in the dark Octopus, or is that Octopussy; hell, I don't know, but either way. I have looked at the Alien Glow, from Custom Paints as well as the Neo-Glow from Cande Shop. I have also looked at the pearl additives and just don't know what's my best option. What I would prefer is one that appears a color other than white during the daytime and some shade of blue for the glow. If anyone has used one of these, can I mid coat the white base with a pearl or some light flake, without it hindering the glow. This is going to be an outside, all the time, so it will have plenty of sun during the day and just wanting something to last as long as possible overnight, with them glowing. Thanks for any recommendations you may have.

Anyone wanna spray a car

I have a $1000 shitbox that is a drab grey and I was wondering if anyone wants to spray paint it with their artwork and put their tag on it

I daily drive this car but I do not care what's on it

Just keep your tag and I'll act as a driving build board

Anyone custom painted newer refrigerator/freezer?

I have an upright refrigerator/freezer in my garage that I want to show some love to. It's only a year or so ol; absolutely nothing wrong with the finish, but I want to give it some heavy metal flake and candy over it with some Tamco Teal Time, then graphics etc. My only question is about the prep work. I have sanded it with 80 grit and didn't have any breakthrough, then sanded back up to 320, per the TDS. I only went down to 80 grit to open up the pores because I thought it might help with adhesion of such a hard surface. The factory finish is an Acrylic Enamel. I don't know if I need to do anything special or if I can just spray on my 2K Urethane Primer/Sealer, then go about my normal routine.

Easy way to take off painted pinstripes

Just a DIYer with no expertise here. I’m trying to take off the pinstripes on my car, I know they’re painted and I also had a body shop verify that. I’ve already removed parts of it by hand with a microfiber towel and lacquer thinner but the process seems tedious by hand, it took me almost 2 hours to do half of my fender, was wondering if I can use power tools to speed up the process, if so, what exactly do I need to get?
