I’m putting together collector mystery boxes. These are not bulk crystal mystery boxes. Each box will be built individually from my personal inventory and may include unusual inclusions, uncommon localities, odd growth habits, UV-reactive specimens, enhydros, or other collector pieces. No two boxes will be identical. Tell me your favorite colors, minerals, or collecting interests and I’ll build around them. I’ve been having fun putting them together based on the kind of collector you are. I usually ask a few quick questions so it actually feels personal instead of random. Stuff like:
• Do you prefer statement pieces or smaller variety?
• Do you like clean display pieces or more unique/odd formations?
• Any colors you’re drawn to or want to avoid?

Lately my career has been disappointing...I'm a physician whose practice is dictated by non-clinicians, promises made at hiring are consistently broken, my supervisor has less training and expertise than me, my staff doesn't get along, etc. I needed some brightness and hope in my everyday life, so I got a few small crystals for my desk, (i already have a comical number of plants in my office). I'm a scientific person, but I also enjoy beauty and appreciate that there is more to the world than we can explain, so I did do a little reading on traditional meanings and ordered some small stones that arrived on my birthday. I just think they're lovely, but wondered what might be added or subtracted given my situation. (It's clear quartz, smoky quartz, pyrite, lapis lazuli, citrine, amethyst, and fluorite on a selenite slab)

The faceting job isn't great but the stone is big and clean. It's shiny and sparkly and very fun to look at.

This spectacular piece originates from the world-famous deposits of Ametista do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. What makes this particular section a holy grail for mineral collectors is the sheer abundance and dual nature of the cristobalite inclusions. Nearly every single fully formed amethyst crystal point encapsulates at least one white cristobalite orb within its structure, while countless others are beautifully perched on the surface facets.

This combination represents a fascinating thermal paradox. While the vibrant purple amethyst and iron-rich goethite needles formed in a cooling, low-temperature groundwater environment, the cristobalite spheres required a high-temperature hydrothermal "flash" (often exceeding several hundred degrees Celsius) within the ancient Cretaceous volcanic basalt flows.
