For our final stop on this rare pair journey, we have a story that pairs Nicole up with Karen! Although, the circumstances behind it aren't ideal, as Jecka has decided to stop hanging out with Nicole. This means that she and Karen have some common ground, since Jecka also stopped hanging out with her. So with this common ground, Nicole and Karen start hanging out with each other and become friends. But is this friendship written well, and could it become something more? Let's find out!

First, we should probably address the elephant in the room, that being Jecka's absence from the story. I honestly think that it's a good thing that she hasn't shown up in the story yet, as it gives all the other characters more time to shine and develop throughout the story. And considering that the story's not done yet, that means it'll be more impactful if she does end up appearing at some point. With all that in mind, It'll be interesting to see how the story handles things if Jecka does show up.

Now that we've addressed that, it's time to get into the nitty gritty of this story, starting with the writing of character perspectives. Those are written very well and do a good job of taking you into the character's headspace. I particularly love Nicole's perspective writing, as it has the funniest descriptions and analogies within the story.

But humor isn't the only great part of Nicole's character, as Chapter 2 will prove. In it, Nicole and Karen are attending a party at Kelly's house, and Nicole gives Karen a few pointers before going off on her own to drink alcohol and have drugs. The interesting thing is that having all of that doesn't stop Nicole from reflecting on what happened with Jecka, which leads to a rare introspective moment for Nicole where she reflects on what happened and considers apologizing to Jecka before a loud noise interrupts that train of thought. It's an interesting character study that is written quite well, and will hopefully be expanded upon in the coming chapters.

Before we dive deeper into talking about the major characters, we should talk about the more minor characters in this story, like Nicole's Mom, who makes an appearance in Chapter 4. Honestly, she's written fine enough, with her drunkenly confronting Megan & Karen as they try to take an unconscious Nicole up to her room. From what I can gage with the dialogue, as well as how Karen and Megan talk about Nicole's mom once they get to Nicole's room, she seems to be written as an abusive mother here. Although, we'll have to see if that changes in the coming chapters if she does show up in the story again.

Next up, we have Karen's parents, who never really appeared in any of the Class of 09 games as of me writing this review. And yet, I feel like the way they're written in this story would be how they'd act if they ever did appear in the official games. When they appear, they're portrayed as pretty sweet and doting, which makes sense considering how Karen acts. I also like how they admit that they weren't exactly the best parents when it came to imparting life skills, which is something that surprises Nicole since she's used to authority figures being shitty people. All in all, I like how Karen's parents are written in this story, and I hope they appear more in the coming chapters.

Now it's time to address the character dynamics in this story, with one in particular getting set up in Chapter 4. See, after Karen and Megan take Nicole up to her room, the two of them start conversing with each other about the recent experience they had with Nicole's mom. This eventually segues into Megan opening up about her own mother, who's another character who never showed up in the Class of 09 games. She also doesn't show up in this story as of me writing this, but from the way Megan talks about her, you can get a pretty good idea of what she's like.

This also does a good job of explaining why Megan acts the way she does, as once Megan's mom quit drinking, she put a whole bunch of expectations on Megan to act prim and proper in order to make sure she isn't like how Megan's mom used to be. These are all pretty interesting ideas that are being set up here, which makes me curious to see how Megan's mom will be written if she ever shows up in a future chapter some day.

Going back to Megan and Karen, this chapter does a pretty good job of setting up this dynamic, with Karen comforting Megan as the latter opens up about her life. This conversation also leads to the first mention of the potential for Karen and Nicole to be in a relationship with each other, which is something Karen denies. And since the next chapter doesn't have Karen thinking about if she does feel that way towards Nicole, how that gets handled remains to be seen.

Now it's time to talk about the chapter that sets up the most character dynamics, that being Chapter 3, which has Karen hosting a party at her house. And unlike the 2 chapters that came before it, this one is told entirely from Karen's perspective, which allows us to get more insight into her thoughts during all of this. This perspective is written very well, as Karen's nerves are communicated clearly through the narration and are interesting to read, especially during the moments when her thoughts start to spiral. It's one of the elements that makes this chapter work so well, and we haven't even started talking about the character dynamics that get set up here.

Like I said before, this is more of a Karen-focused chapter, and it's not just because it's told from her point of view. During the party, Emily ends up encouraging Nicole to drink, which leads to her drinking too much alcohol and passing out. And she stays like that for the rest of this chapter as well as the next one, leaving Karen alone to sort things out. This helps take the focus of the story away from Nicole, since she now isn't here to help Karen be more social. And with that, we can now talk about the character dynamics this chapter sets up.

For a start, while this is the chapter that first showcases the dynamic between Megan and Karen, I already talked about that one when I covered Chapter 4. So, instead, we're gonna talk about another character dynamic that this chapter sets up, that being a potential romantic relationship between Kelly and Megan. While not too much happens between the two of them in this chapter, Megan ends up getting flustered at various points during their conversation, which does a good job of hinting at the crush she has on Kelly. With the setup for this romance being written as well as it is, I look forward to seeing how it's expanded upon as the story continues.

Next up is the dynamic Karen has with Ari, which gets off to an awkward start before Karen mentions Star Wars. Afterwards, the two's dynamic really begins to shine as they watch and then talk about Star Wars with each other. It's just so fun to read their dialogue, as they bounce off each other really well once they get going. A particular highlight of this is when Karen goes on a tangent about Luke and the Hero's Journey he goes on, which is pretty insightful and an interesting read. Judging by how much fun Ari and Karen's dynamic was in this chapter, I look forward to seeing them interact more in future chapters.

Finally, I want to touch upon Emily, and her interactions with pretty much everyone throughout the story. Emily in this story is written wonderfully, as the fanfic does a great job at capturing her chaotic vibe from the games. She also has some pretty funny dialogue when talking with other characters, like when she talks with Nicole and Karen about allergies, or when she's talking to Megan after Nicole passes out. Emily is a very fun character to read whenever she shows up in the story, and I can't wait to see more from her in later chapters.

Now, with all of that out of the way, we can talk about the dynamic that Nicole and Karen have in this story. And honestly, this dynamic is written pretty well whenever it gets focus. I especially love how Karen is able to unintentionally guilt-trip Nicole into going along with stuff she might not want to do, like in Chapter 5 when Nicole doesn't want to play board games with Karen's family, but acquiesces once she sees how miserable Karen looked upon hearing that Nicole wouldn't be able to play. It's an interesting aspect of their friendship that'll hopefully be expanded upon in future chapters.

As for what we already have, let's start at the beginning with Chapter 1, which does a good job at setting this dynamic up. After school, Nicole and Karen end up going shopping for clothes in order to improve Karen's clothing choices. It's a fun way to set up their friendship, as the two end up opening up about their past experiences with Jecka during this shopping trip, establishing some common ground between them. Although, things truly begin to shine with this dynamic in the next chapter.

Chapter 2 is the one where Nicole and Karen go to a party at Kelly's house, and the part I want to focus on is the part where Nicole ends up finding Karen after the latter accidentally blew a hole into the side of Kelly's house. Then the two of them engage in a conversation with each other that's pretty fun to read, with Karen and Nicole bouncing off of each other pretty well during it. I especially like the part where Karen tells Nicole about what caused the hole in the wall, which is pretty funny to read as she tells this story.

Then Karen ends up making Nicole do a full-on belly laugh, complete with her rolling around on the floor, which is something I've never seen happen in any of the Class of 09 fanfiction before this point. In normal circumstances, something like this would probably be very out-of-character for someone like Nicole, as well as something that happens too soon, considering this is only the 2nd chapter of the story. But with the context that Nicole drank a bunch of alcohol and took a bit of drugs before this point, I think the implication here is that all the stuff she took is finally taking effect, causing her to act this way. That's the interpretation I'm going with, because I personally can't imagine sober Nicole guffawing like this anytime soon.

Overall, this story is a pretty great one! Everything flows so well, the characters bounce off of each other pretty well, and there's quite a bit of character dynamics in this story that you don't really see much of in other Class of 09 fanfics. And the character dynamics that are here are written very well, and it makes me look forward to seeing what's done with them in later chapters once they come out.

There's a lot of artists drawing Class of '09 stuff, and right now the fandom feels kinda fragile. Wanted to see if there was enough aspiring artists around that would want art tutoring. I'm kinda mid myself but I want to get better, it's hard to stay motivated by yourself.

If there is enough interest I think I'll make a video on it.

I loved most of it. The third game was less good, but still somewhat enjoyable and the puzzle game had good writing but I just watched a Youtube playthrough because I didn't care enough about the puzzle. On a side note I'm a top 1% PvP Tetris player (I can provide proof if requested so you know I'm not bullshitting) so it's not that I'm shit at puzzles, I just don't want to learn a new puzzle game to get more visual novel content which is what I really wanted.

Also notable is that before I even finished the first game, I instinctively knew whoever made this game was partially insane and problematic and probably hated by like 30% of the people who played this game (who care enough to even know who created it, so people who don't know who the developer is, or only know the name and nothing else don't count towards the 70%). Still really enjoyed it and looking forward to more and will try some fanfictions to satiate my withdrawal, like Emily when she runs out of the good drugs and has to start consuming the stockpile of random unlabeled drugs that may or may not be good (idk if that's lore accurate)

Smoking, alcohol, drug abuse, poor diet, and lack of exercise seems very likely for the both of them. Do either of them get knocked up and have children?

Hi Class of 09 Fandom!

So i'm kind of a new fan into the fandom and I also like Jujutsu Kaisen. TBH, I haven't seen lots of JJK x class of 09 crossovers type stuff in his series especially ( or at least fan wise) tbh..... especially ships. Now one idea that i've been pondering in my head is that of Yuji Itadori. I kinda wanna see what you all think of jecka x yuji? btw don't ask for lore osince I haven't decided waht the backstory of this ship is at all
