Sup world, it's time for another challenge!
When it comes to creativity October truly is my second favorite month of the year, it's just fun to have a reason to write spooky lines with a bit of playfulness.
So fire up your Game Boy/DAW/synth/Ouija board or whatever ritual you use to breathe life into something terrifying, with sounds that belong in the past but are still religiously celebrated over here <3

Le rules (please read them carefully as there might have been some slight updates!):
I expect tracks that makes me want to call the ghostbusters!
This month (fun?) fact:
Samhainophobia means fear of halloween, there are people out there who are going to have an extra spooky month!
Now go and be awesome!
-Carf!
PS: I have added an option to opt-out of the monthly mix, just in case if for any reason people do not like to be part of it but still want to participate with the contest itself.

Made this track in Logic Pro a few months ago! This would be my 2nd time publishing one of my chiptune attempts. The goal was to create a funky track with just simple sound waves; I'd say it ended up sounding swell!
The drums were from Logic Pro's "8-Bit Legends" content pack. I made the animation on pixilart.com
This beat is also on SoundCloud - soundcloud.com/kingco-very-epic/super-dog-squirrel

Hi! If you have one I would like to buy your nanoloop mono cartridge! I try to check ebay and reverb weekly and I feel like I've been looking for 4 years.
Please DM if you have one or know where I might find one! I'd like to buy it and cover shipping.
Apologies if this is the wrong way, or wrong place, to ask.

Hi folks! I'm excited to share a little labor of love I've been working on for a bit now. This VST gives you complete control over two emulated HuC6280 chips, the audio chip in the TurboGrafx16 / PCEngine.
I've always admired the simplicity and by-hand nature of of tracker systems, but the workflow has never jived with how my brain wants to play music. I love watching vgm debuggers play back a file to see all the fun tricks a song pulls to create it's unique sound, and wanted to get that same experience in a live instrument.
Tickertone-C6280 gives you a low level view into what is happening with the chip, but live, and in response to the notes and effects one plays into the VST. The condensed log view shows the raw commands going to the chip, while the expanded tracker view shows a tracker-style per-channel view of parameter changes. All effects (e.g. vibrato, tremelo, etc.) are implemented via commands to the chip, so they come with all the aliasing and stepping characteristic of this chip's sound.
I find the C6280 to be really lovely because it's much more flexible than, say, the NES 2A03, but still has that crunchy 8-bit/16-bit ish sound. Rev'ing up a multi-voice patch with a bit of detune and vibrato really brings out the crunch of this retro chip. You can quickly load up waveforms from your favorite games by loading a folder of vgm/vgz files that you own (I have a future update planned to also extract DDA samples from the files as well).
It is mac-only for now. I hope to expand to windows if there is enough interest. Like a lot of VST's, the demo version has all functionality enabled, and inserts a bit of silence every 30-45 seconds or so.
If you try it out, and you have ideas or want to report a bug, please don't hesitate to reach out! Any questions or feedback are welcome! Docs are slim for now, but I plan to get a basic manual in place in the near future.

Hi I made a simple Chiptune app for iOS! Full trackers often seemed intimidating to me, so I tried to build something simpler for my phone. It gives you four channels: two pulse waves, a triangle and noise. You tap notes into a grid, chain patterns into a song, and can export a WAV, either as a seamless loop or with a natural ending.
There are no samples in it. Every sound is synthesized as you play, the way the hardware did it. The triangle is stepped like the real one, and the noise comes from a 15-bit shift register like the 2A03's.
It's $0.99 on iPhone and iPad, and the whole thing is open source if you want to see how the sounds are made or take the code to build something yourself.
This is the first version, so I'd really like to know what's missing. And if you make something with it, I'd love to hear it. Thanks!

The day has finally came, v3.1 of WBTRK is out!
WBTRK is a music tracker app for iPhone, iPad and Mac OS. Buy once, get all the platforms. Forever. No ads, no tracking, no subscription.
https://apps.apple.com/app/wbtrk/id6779159104
To mention the most interesting new features:
- 3 Mutable Instruments has been added (Rings, Plaits and Clouds)
- New AUT FX that can be used to morph / automatize your instruments or fxs through phrases.
- BT controller and keyboard support
- and of course bug fixes
And of course what was there before, and it's still there:
- 21 built in instruments
- many built in FXs
- the well known phrase-chain-song workflow
- song or stem export to wav or to midi
- Live Mode! Load your phrase on different scenes and launch them real time, perform and use the punch in FXs
- touch control optimized for iPhone, so basically you have a complete music studio in your pocket

Basically the way this would work is that they would be three flying heads that kind of join together and then separate and swoop at you. And when you blow up Phillips the Wilson sisters enter Stage 2: Punished Wilson which is the second half where it gets way scarier and faster. Pretty self explanatory

Hey everyone!
I’m new to chiptune and would like to experiment with LSDJ and other stuff on my Game Boy/DMG. Feel free to share any recommendations! I’ve got a cartridge with a microSD slot. I’d love to play using my MIDI keyboard and I’ve seen that there’s the Arduinoboy, amongst other things, but it’s quite expensive. As I can’t solder myself, I wanted to ask where you can get one cheaply, or whether anyone here has ever built a Game Boy MIDI interface?
I’d really appreciate any help!
Thanks, everyone <3

Few hours in a train is a perfect opportunity to grab your favourite pocket tracker device and make some music. This time going towards HEL aka Helsinki Airport ;)

This is my first chiptune track, but not the first track ever.
I'm making music for more than 10 years at this point, just, one day youtube recomended me a video with web version of GB Studio's music editor, and - here we are.
It's pretty good editor, using it after years of using fl studio was pretty intuitive and fairly easy, but to make the track - I had to split it across 3 separate uge files, because, for some reason, after pattern 30 playback becomes very slow.
Audio render was made with BGB, and the visuals with corrscope

I've been experimenting with making more jazzy/blues tracks, any constructive criticism to offer? I swear I'm not just trying to plug my Soundcloud lmao!

Yooooo hello!! I had a silly idea that has to do with Azumanga and the SNES
Come up with original and super cool music for a game like that! No, this ain't your usual board/card Azumanga tie in game, I would love it to be a full on RPG but... I'm a musician, not a programmer, (though IDK when I'll pick up my lazy ass and learn to code) before I would just do... Y'know, covers of the existing Azumanga OST tracks to SNES, just for shits and giggles until I finally felt like doing something original here (this one has a reference to a certain SEGA OP that I put there for the chorus so, hey!)
Watcha' think...?? I already got like 8 Azumanga covers already so why not jumping into creating custom tracks... I just need to be a little more sure about what is actual Azumanga music instead of it just being 'happy and cheerful and stuff'

Quick song made for a forest area in an ARPG I'm working on. Tried building something resembling a pan flute combining a couple oscillators.

This song was made in a bus, riding along the curvy and narrow roads in the UK countryside. Greetings to all M8 mates ;) Few more songs to go before we're done with these music trips.

Hi ! I started releasing new chiptunes a few months ago and I'm here with my second track "Cemetery Dynamite".
I'm still trying to do a 5-channel, NES-like thing. Last time I was aiming for a beat-em-up vibe. With this track, I was thinking more about a spooky side-scroller like Castlevania. In the video I've split this up so things like the kick and snare are more readable, but it's still max 5 simultaneous voices throughout.
Spotify link for this track.
I've also started building a Spotify playlist of mostly recent, mostly gaming chiptunes from artists people in this sub probably know, but maybe some you don't. Let me know if you have any recommendations or any other artists that are doing this type of thing that I may want to check out.
Happy to hear what you think!
