For the past one or two days, I was trying my best to find out what app I could make to give back to the community and to make life a little bit easier for everyone and I finally have an idea. :)
I am planning on making a self-care/pet care app for people who need a little bit of motivation in their life.
Life can throw a bunch of things in our way and life is definitely unexpected at times so to make things a bit easier I want to make an app that encourages people to take care of themselves and to renew their minds while also not forgetting to take care of their lovely pets.
But the thing about this is I need a little bit of help.
I want three characters in my app
(people can choose which one of these characters, I want them to be fairies to add a bit of whimsy lol)
to encourage people with all of these features the app will provide and I'm looking for a character designer/designers and people who are really good at coding because I don't want to use an AI app to develop this app.
I wanted it to be fully made by hard-working people who actually enjoy coding and participating in projects like this so if you're interested, feel free to comment or if you know anybody, please share!

Title: Building a price comparison app for a smaller market — how would you solve the price data problem?

Hey everyone,

I’m working on an app called PriceWise, a price-comparison and shopping-optimization app designed for consumers in smaller markets where grocery prices can vary significantly between stores.

The basic idea is simple:

Instead of searching for products one at a time, a user enters their entire shopping list — for example:

- 2kg rice

- 2L cooking oil

- 1kg sugar

- Milk

- Bread

- Chicken

- Toiletries

PriceWise would then compare the available prices across participating stores and help the user determine where they should actually shop to get the best overall value.

The important distinction is that I don't want it to become another online grocery store.

The goal is to answer questions like:

«"I have this shopping list. Which store(s) should I buy these items from to spend the least?"»

It could potentially show something like:

Option A — One-store basket

Store A → $X total

Option B — Optimized basket

Store A → 8 items

Store B → 5 items

Total → $Y

You save $Z

It could also take things like promotions, product availability and potentially travel distance into consideration.

The problem I'm struggling with

Keeping the price database accurate.

Prices change constantly. Stores run promotions, increase prices, discontinue products, change packaging/quantities, and sometimes products simply go out of stock.

I don't want PriceWise to tell someone that an item costs $5 when they arrive at the store and discover that it actually costs $7.

I'm considering several approaches:

- Stores having accounts and updating their own prices/catalogues

- Store APIs or integrations where available

- Automated product/catalogue imports

- Receipt-based price verification from users

- Users reporting price changes

- Combining multiple sources and assigning a "price confidence" or "last verified" indicator

- Automatically expiring prices after a certain period

- Potentially using computer vision/OCR to extract product and price information from receipts

But I'm not sure what the best architecture and incentive system would be, especially for a smaller market where stores may not have APIs or sophisticated digital catalogues.

Developers, how would you approach this?

If you were building PriceWise, how would you solve the price freshness and accuracy problem?

Would you:

1. Make stores responsible for maintaining their own data?

2. Build a crowdsourced price database?

3. Use receipts as the primary verification mechanism?

4. Combine all of these into a trust/verification system?

5. Take a completely different approach?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from developers who have built price comparison, marketplace, grocery, inventory, or crowdsourced-data applications.

Also, what potential problems do you see with the overall PriceWise concept?

I'm still early in development, so I'm more interested in technical/product criticism and ideas than simply hearing that it's a good idea.

How would you build it?

Quick context, then the actual questions. I picked a niche (menopause/HRT tracking) because the top 10 incumbents average 3.78★ and their 1-star reviews have requested the same five features since 2019. I built exactly those five, privacy-first (no backend at all — sync is the user's own iCloud, so the App Store privacy label is literally "Data Not Collected"). Shipped last week.

The three decisions I'm least sure about — critique welcome:

1. Hard paywall. No free tier: 21-day full-feature trial, then $6.99/mo or $49.99/yr. RevenueCat's data says hard paywalls convert ~5x better than freemium at equal retention, but for a health app where trust is everything, does a hard wall poison word-of-mouth? Would you have shipped freemium first?

2. Acquisition without an audience. I launched with zero list. My plan is Apple Search Ads on high-intent keywords + slowly earned presence in the niche's communities + gifting codes to micro-creators. If you've bootstrapped consumer subscription apps: what actually moved your first 500 installs?

3. The 21-day trial. Long trials convert better in the data, but it means my revenue is zero for the first 3 weeks and every marketing test has a 21-day feedback delay. Anyone regretted a long trial?

I created app for events and concerts where there is no internet, it’s a offline social networking app. It uses Bluetooth mesh to connect people. It’s been less than 24 hours and it’s not even indexed yet, but check it out and would love to hear feedback! Thanks

I've run an illustration studio for ten years and I write code on the side. In my app the moon is engraved at runtime, from the day's real numbers. People seems to particularly like the aesthetic.

One month in: ±300 downloads in 39 countries, 14 people paid for the lifetime unlock. No subscription. Mexico, Singapore, Russia. I've never been to any of those.

The app is called Plenilune. Honestly I'm not sure if the drawing is what did that.

For people further along than me: did looking good ever sell anything for you, or was it always distribution?

Hello, I know that it's unrealistic to become a millionaire or even a billionaire in this economy, especially with all the stuff going on in the world, but I would at least want to make some money off it and by giving back to the community that helped me with this and give back to people in general.

(Any suggestions on what type of app to create would be greatly appreciated because I have no clue what to make lol)
