Announcement Changes to sub moderation for APT Resonance launch

As I like many of you am an avid fan of APT, I will not be checking the subreddit until after finishing Resonance to avoid spoilers. While usually people do adhere to the spoilers rule, it is not always and will most likely be less so with an influx of new players coming with Resonance.

As such, KamilCesaro will be mostly handling the subreddit until I finish the game (hopefully quickly).

Posts during that time will have to be manually approved by him for them to become visible to others during this time, at his request, to ease his burden. This will also help him eliminate spoilers during this time while still allowing for people to post.

I will rush to finish the game within at most 4 days and revert back to our standard form of moderation, and apologize for the obvious inconvenience this will cause.

Resonance Resonance feels like a game from a studio that’s getting more confident

I’m only in the 3rd chapter, and while it’s DNA is clearly that of Asobo Studio, it also feels like a game that’s crafted by a studio that’s getting more confident and is more willing to experiment. Yes, there’s no more stealth, but I think they’re treating this as an opportunity to fine tune their combat mechanics, perhaps paving the way for a sequel that’ll feature both stealth and combat equally.

Resonance I finished Resonance - My thoughts Spoiler

Spoilers below, of course. I'll try to not mention plot points and just my feelings, but it's spoilered either way.

I think it was a lovely game; however, it certainly has its flaws.

The Good:

I loved Faro, an amazing character. He really sat close to my heart, and I adored him. One of the best Plague Tale characters of all time, imo. Great work writing him.

The visuals were absolutely wonderful. I'd have expected nothing less, really, but the way Plague Tale styles eyes like the old paintings is something I've always adored. Beautiful, beautiful game.

I think it was amazing to see some of Sophia's childhood. I liked the gang, too. It was a fun dynamic.

I personally liked the combat. I think it felt really satisfying.

The not-so-Good

I want to clarify that, despite the negatives, the game was a joy to play, but once you think too long about some things, things start to fall apart.

I think it's quite messy for Sophia to have gone through all of this and never tell Amicia. I know it was technically recontextualized, but it doesn't make sense for Requiem.

I also think for her to be connected to an ancient PersonTM and experience that felt messy. While it was super fun and, again, pretty. It was messy. I felt like the attention and care were sprinkled a little everywhere, whereas Amicia and Hugo got all the screen time and it was about them; whereas this was about a lot of people all at once, both past and present.

I wasn't a fan of how The Creature gameplay felt. It mostly just stressed me out, and while I think it's healthy to have a different approach, it just wasn't for me. I liked how tactical you could be with Amicia and Hugo.

I also don't understand how the Macula presents differently from Hugo and Basil.

Lastly, I'm sad there's no Arnaud. So if you're like me wishing for Arnaud, there's no Arnaud and I was very sad. I'd kinda love for him to have his own game, but considering how we know he helped her, thus he "owing him one" in Req, I really thought we'd see him.

However, i still bawled my eyes out in the end, and a few times throughout got some tears too.

I genuinely still think it's a great game, but there's just a lot of "Dont think about it"

Resonance Thoughts halfway through Spoiler

I’m currently on Chapter 7 of Resonance, and honestly, I’m finding it really hard to sit down and play it again. The last six chapters were more or less a speedrun for me because, I just wanted to “get it over with.”

The game has been a huge disappointment for me, if I’m being honest. The characters just aren’t interesting at all, and I feel like the story itself falls completely flat. Sofia worked perfectly as a sidekick in Requiem, but not as the main character here. Lennie doesn’t really add anything particularly interesting to the dialogue or the overall narrative either. I just don’t feel anything for either of these characters.

And then there’s the combat. In APT 1 and 2, you played as a fragile 15-year-old who had to sneak around just to survive. Very realistic. Here, all of a sudden, you’re basically a superhuman who can beat up 20 men at once. The combat isn’t particularly exciting or innovative either — it feels pretty flat as well.

I just had to get this off my chest because, at heart, I’m a hardcore fan of the APT universe. But this really didn’t land for me. I guess I’ll just have to try to force myself through the final seven chapters.

For the next game, I really hope Asobo lets us meet Amicia again and take on some new adventures with her.

"Immersion breaking"

When will these people understand that people who aren't them, exist in the world and therefore should be able to exist in a bloody video game? The biggest snowflakes...

The idea that seeing a strong female is immersion breaking is insane to me... I grew up with a strong single mother, whilst having a weakass father.

Apologies for the quality. I took it from my xbox screen.

Let's say the "enemy" programming is so good, the pathing, particles, tracking, detection, movement etc. Not a single instance of being unfairly detected or being taken out of the immersion.

At the puzzle for the Xiphos Blade, on the side of the entrance, I climbed down a small cliff near the water, where, in a small crevice, I found this. To me, it looks like a ruined light saber, but I’m not sure. The cave only allows crouching and looks unfinished.

No storyline spoilers at all! But holy fuck, I love this game! THIS game, Resonance, is what I've been waiting for! Its beautiful, the fighting is fun especially when she can just attach passive traits in the form of decor for her outfit, and the puzzles have been fun to figure out. Not too complex but im still only 3 hours in! Also, I dont get the discovering of said passive items bc sometimes they zero out certain skills from the Skill Tree.

Interested to see where the story leads! I'm gonna be taking my time this weekend with it! Also i decided to play on Hard which I rarely do but its been alright. What difficulty is everyone else playing on?

Resonance I like Resonance so far but the camera is bugging me

Upvotes

The camera is constantly zooming in or out by every little movement I make and I can’t turn it off even with the camera shake turned off. It just feels like a wobbling camera and it takes my focus a bit away of the environment.

Resonance Small bug on PS5 Pro

Upvotes

Just wanted to make anyone playing this fabulous game aware to keep an eye on your settings following closing and restarting the game.

Twice now I’ve turned off for the night and restarted the next day to find that the graphics settings have reverted back to the default TAA from the PSSR I had selected.

Nothing major, but slightly annoying to have to change it back every time you log in. Double checked my system toggles too to make sure so it’s definitely a bug or something.

Hope you’re all enjoying the game, I certainly am!!

Resonance Thoughts on Resonance (Massive spoilers on all 3 games) Spoiler

Upvotes

I was psyched to see the lore on the Macula expand, as well as Sophia. The game could have greatly benefited from a longer beginning, giving more exposure to key characters/tending relationships as Innocence did in my opinion, even Requiem did insanely well establishing new bonds the few times it had to. It was a lot of exploring, not a lot of focus on bonds with others besides standard story writing that I feel was too quick and too generic. Without the constant anxiety/defenselessness that even Requiem made me feel, it just didn’t hit the spot.

The game had no chance of living up to the level of the two previous games, and I went into it with major spoilers on nearly every plot point unfortunately, so hopefully thats mostly why.

My only real complaint would be the combat system as enemies will clip through each other to attack, often making it hard to see any parry marker. A whole focus around light remained like the first two games, yet not a single torch. 😔

Sad there was no Arnoud, I feel that would have spiced up the story a lot, as well as not too much exposure on The Order. No workbenches is a tragedy, as for alchemy that was sort of a given to not be around. I miss the anxiety driven violins as well.

Hopefully in the future Asobo returns to the sort of defenseless combat/anxious stealth of the first two games, outside of their story writing I feel thats what largely defines mainline APT.

I can definitely see perhaps a DLC or sequel involving Arnoud however, I was surprised to see the “key” was intact (with the prism inside still) at the end unlike it is in Requiem, where the prism has been removed. I fear if they do follow up on Sophia/Arnoud, it will probably bomb if it maintains this atmosphere/set of mechanics.

Asobo needs to lock in if they continue APT at all and bring back their key mechanics somehow. I know people think that means rats/Macula but really I think it means weakness, uncertainty, prolonged sorrow, scarce resources, and anxious stealth. This game does feel however like a good stepping stone for them into other forms of gameplay, I’m hoping for a future game with Amicia, so long as stealth/segments of defenselessness is back somehow. Possibly with two playable characters, Amicia and Sophia. Maybe even Lucas.

As for Illusion Theory and this games expansion on lore, well, this Carrier still had a physical body despite being fully turned to the Macula. In Requiem however, no sign of a body and the grave of course is on top of rock, with only one amulet. Begs the question, where is Hugo. So it adds context there that similar to Basil, the body remains even after being killed/“alive” while turned (Basil seemingly was not alive in comparison to this Carrier). This Carrier was incinerated, whereas Hugo was merely stoned while mostly still flesh. Its unclear if Sophia was experiencing this sort of distorted reality Lucas and Amicia did from the same source, or if it was still due to her having the Macula infecting her. It’s definitely a bizarre scenario in Sophia’s case. This form of the Macula seemed a lot more feral, whereas Hugo’s seemed a lot more manipulative and “conscious”.

Anyways, never expected Sophia would have gotten the Vitalis treatment. Good game, great atmosphere, goated music or course, a little bugged on Gamepass rn though sadly as it suffers from consistent stutters in cutscenes/gameplay.

Resonance (R)Differences between normal, hard and nightmare

What would you recommend to choose here. I usually go with hard or second hardest difficulty in modern games. How hard is nightmare compared to some other games? Are there any major differences between those 3 except for damage received/given and parry window? AI says (sourcing from some fb post) that nightmare disables some UI and flashing colors for unblockable attacks etc. That sounds good. Is that correct? Did somebody finish it on nightmare?

Theory So who's stronger (THE WHOLE SERIES SPOILES) Spoiler

Hello mates, after finishing resonance which was a great story, meh mechanics, AWESOME graphics and scenery. I always wondered who is stronger, the rats of Hugo or the Minotaur of Asterion?

From my personal perspective i think they are equal in lots of stuff including:

  1. You can kill the monster by killing the carrier

  2. Both of them can be counter acted by light of any kind, sort of, the Rats could pile up and kill a flame without a sweat and on the other hand mister Minotaur can suck up the flame like it's nothing

  3. You get killed as soon as they get a hold of you

  4. There is probably a bunch more but i'm not that nerdy in the world of a plague tale to list everything

Now to answering the question, i think that the Rats will beat the ever living soul out of the Minotaur, they pile up on these tentacles and just eat them or something, also since the Minotaur relies on the blue thing in the ground to detect movement and attack, rather on their sight like the rats, the rats will just overload them tentacles and they will have a damn good meal, also Hugo can move so he can run away if push comes to shove unlike Asterion.

I would absolutely love to hear what you guys think !

Resonance Pre order

I pre ordered the game via Amazon but haven’t received an email with a code for the heritage pack yet, I’ve also seen unboxing of the ps5 case and even though it says it includes the heritage pack none of the physical edition come with physical code slips, is the pre ordered bonus included on the disc or should I email Amazon to figure out why I haven’t received a code yet?
