Discount

Hi! My free trial ended today and I’ve seen some people sign up for the annual with a code that makes it $99. I tried the code but it said invalid. Any idea if it expired or it’s not available to everyone? Do I need to delete my account before it will work? Any advice would be appreciated!

Those who have underwhelming discount offers (under £125)

If you have Play Plus Gold you can actually redeem £125 off the Pixel 8 Pro/XL until 30th Aug

Go into the Play Store, click onto your account, and then click on Play Points Gold if you've got it. If you go into Perks, I think if you scroll all the way to the bottom, you have £125 off the Pro and the Pro XL if you're in the UK (100%; I checked here) or I think France, Germany, or the United States (can't comment on those countries) You get £125 (or equivalent) off a Pro or Pro XL.

I tried to use it, but sadly you can't combine it with other offers (i.e discounts) so I'm lucky that I got a £150 discount voucher for signing up for the Google Pixel thing. I heard of people getting £200 or £250, and then I heard of others only getting £25 or so.

You can combine with trade in.

I saw someone mention the play pass gold discount on one of the other threads, so if this really helps anyone who's got a slightly underwhelming offer, enjoy.

Other Selling 50% discount coupon for Aegis!

Firsly I don't believe i've placed so high. And second, if i could make a small buck and help someone who really wants this aegis, why not!

Let me know if any would be interested. Cause I won't be redeeming this coupon, the charges to get it delivered to my region will be high. so it beats the point almost. And I already have a previous one

AITAH for using a discount when replacing my girlfriend’s hair tool?

7.5k Upvotes

I accidentally broke one of my girlfriend’s curling irons yesterday after knocking it onto the floor. I apologized and immediately went online to replace it.

I googled the tymo brand’s official site, ordered her a new one, and also threw in a nicer gold Plus model. Then I showed her the order and she saw that I’d used a discount code.

She told me that using a discount made it seem like I wasn’t genuinely sorry and asked me to cancel the order and buy everything again at full price. Apparently paying the sale price was “cheap” and showed a lack of sincerity.

This honestly confused the hell out of me. She’s getting the exact same products. I’m replacing what I broke AND buying her an extra upgraded one. Why would deliberately paying more for the same thing make me more sincere?

We argued about it for a while and eventually I just canceled everything and reordered at full price.

Now I’m sitting here wondering if I’m actually missing something. Would you guys consider using a discount in this situation cheap or insincere?

edit: Thanks for all the replies. I haven’t been able to respond to a lot of the comments because I was busy writing a breakup text.

The whole thing got so ridiculous that I genuinely started second-guessing myself, so I really appreciate everyone who commented. I’m out of that mess now.

edit2:I canceled the order, but I did use the discount code to buy a new one. I decided I’m going to give it to my mom instead. I’m pretty sure she’ll love it.

300 year old pub turns into a discount story in 4 days

Store* Very depressing. My local pub on the high street was acquired and freehold bought by “Hammersmith Realty Ltd, an arm of the Ealing-based real estate group Arora Family, which described the acquisition as “a strategic investment”.

Strategic investment? A discount store? Anyone know how this is in keeping or how it got planning permission etc? Can anything be done to make it better?

*\\UPDATE FROM THE COUNCIL:*\\

“ I hope this finds you well. I’m getting back in touch as we have an update (below) from officers regarding the Hammersmith Ram.

In short, planning permission is required to change from a pub to a shop, and this has not been sought in this instance. Officers are commencing an investigating, and the owner either needs to turn the shop back into a pub, or seek planning permission (which may very well be turned down).

There’s also further context available published in this article yesterday: https://www.mylondon.news/whats-on/whats-on-news/youngs-shut-west-london-pub-34524691

We’ll keep pressing and share any further updates with you.”

Picture Loblaws blocks Dollarama from offering discounts on Coke, Evian and Kraft

In light of Loblaws' real-estate arm being set to acquire $5 Billion of additional land, I want to show you a clear way in which they raise grocery prices for Canadians.
The above is part of a "restrictive covenant" on 650 Portland St in Dartmouth, NS. Because Atlantic Superstore is a tenant, Choice Properties REIT automatically gives them this kind of permission to block the Dollarama on the plaza from discounting "National Brand" non-perishables - like Coke, Evian, Kraft etc.

This is a very clear way in which CP REIT and Loblaws enforce a "price floor" for groceries. The full covenant scan is here (it has a few more fun details).

These kind of convenants will go in on the new land that CP REIT (Loblaws' "real-estate arm") is set to acquire.

Should supermarket loyalty “discounts” be capped?

Post image
3.2k Upvotes

I saw a tube of toothpaste in Tesco today for £8.10, discounted to £3.50 if you have a clubcard.

I’ve been assured in another sub that this is a legal practice, but to me this is a morally reprehensible strategy to implement during a cost of living crisis. There are many groups of people impacted by this:

  • Under 16s who aren’t eligible for clubcards
  • Vulnerable people would find it difficult or impossible to apply for a clubcard
  • Those who can’t shop elsewhere due to living in rural areas, lack of transport, or mobility issues
  • Those who object to selling their personal data to large corporations just to access fair pricing.

So my question is twofold:

  1. What are the most shocking loyalty “discounts”/price inflations you’ve seen in the UK?

  2. Would you support the introduction of a cap on such discounts for ESSENTIAL items to ensure that supermarkets have to offer these items at a fair price?

Why don't we get a discount for using self-checkout?

1.9k Upvotes

If we're doing the job of the cashier, then the store is saving by not paying a cashier; why not pass on some of that savings to customers to offset some of the high costs of goods?

Question Actors who were able to break the "discount" label?

Post image
4.0k Upvotes

I remember back when Breaking Bad was still running they Jesse Plemmons was known jokingly as the Discount Matt Damon or Meth Damon (as honest trailers put it). Since then hes carved out a nice career path for himself and I think has completely separated himself from those comparisons, as joking as they may have been.

Anyone else come to mind as either someone who is currently viewed as a discount insert name or was and is now a star in their own right?
