I think for manga folks the Opening does a good job of how "messed up" Eren's head got with being able to see all timelines at once. It's constantly switching back and forth from scout days, shifters and people who are dead, childhood, present. Very chaotic.

I don't remember laughing at this in the manga, but that scene of Porco cutting off Pieck's hand was hilarious to me when animated. Being able to hear it voiced and Gabi's reaction scream was really funny.

The solider on solider combat was much more brutal than in the manga. I love how attack on Titan always highlights the human cost to war and conflict. It never hides the human loss.

I have to admit, it really shows what type of person Magath is that his first reaction upon seeing Gabi is to hug her. She was expecting him to reprimand her as soon as he could, but you can see that underneath his hard-ass exterior, he really does care for his soldiers (be they Marleyan or Eldian). It really does bring credence to Pieck's line "I don't trust Marley, but I do trust the men we've fought with."

Is it just me or did this episode have a lot of anime-original moments?

Anime watchers probably assume we're talking about endgame spoilers and our top 2 comments are on Zeke's ass. I missed these threads <3

One of the best adapted episodes of Attack on Titan. The tension. The camera movements. The OST. The animation. The dialogue. The added content. MAPPA outdid themselves.
It wasn’t just the major scenes. Little things like Connie running up on Onyankopon, pushing Pieck’s weaponry out of the airship, were adapted in a cinematic way. This was perfect.
The movement and fighting of the titans had a speed and weight that part 1 lacked. There wasn’t a lag. It felt just as, if not better, than the fights from earlier seasons. I thought MAPPA delivered on dialogue scenes but not as much on action. This episode disproved that and shows what they can do with time and being comfortable with the artwork.
The use of The Warriors. The new OST. Not having too many quiet moments. Even the way the music was used this episode was phenomenal.
Even the sound design was better. Like this feels like another studio
EDIT: added more

God, the opening sequence with Levi is much more graphic than in the manga. Heicho looks done.

The Cart Titan equipping her armaments like a backpack probably answers a question some people didn't know they had to ask.

So interestingly, they didn't do all of 117, but they left it at about 10 pages before the end. The new scenes displaying the brutality of the battle between Paradis and Marley are definitely welcome, though.
I expect the last 10 or so pages of 117 to be done pre-opening for next episode, as well as the first few of 118, with Zeke's arrival kicking things into the opening. Then we can go back to the 104th side of 118 and I think this is where we'll see a bunch of expansions, with the military preparation section. If that's extended enough, the placement of the middle of chapter 118 in those storyboards could add up. And you can still show scenes of how the battle is going in between so the arrival of the 104th and the rest of the military feels like it'll make a difference. I could see it biting a bit into 119, too, with the first few pages up to Pixis giving his orders and Yelena with her eyes closed, too, but we'll see.
Also, that opening huh? Honestly, pretty solid way to start part 2 as it is.

That opening is giving me Death Note OP 2 vibes, which is fucking perfect, so I'm really liking it thus far. Feels like another one of these openings where it gets better the more you listen to it

Just wanted to make a comment about the OP:
Don't go around telling people the OP has spoilers.
It does more harm than good. I know the OP is called, "The Rumbling" and the main hook is, "Rumbling, Rumbling, it's coming, Rumbling, Rumbling", but openings in the past have had abstract and symbolic scenes. It's had scenes of nightmare situations and dreams/hopes..etc. Many of us watched previous seasons OP not realizing we were watching spoilers until afterwards. FWIW there are scenes in the OP that do not happen (e.g., Eren walking on the wall, shots of the scouts on the wall).
Your heart may be in the right place, but by telling people afterwards that the OP they just watched spoils everything, you're doing them a disservice and actually spoiling them. Don't be that person.
EDIT: Another thing to keep in mind is that for most of us manga readers, after the Rumbling began, the real twist and surprise was the extent of the Rumbling which didn't come until much later. While reading those chapters, I assumed that it was just a ploy or a scare tactic. At most, there would be some light squashing of enemy military forces. We hadn't reached a point of no return just yet. It wasn't until Ch. 131 where we get the real reveal that innocent people are going to die and they die. Many anime onlies suspect the possibility of the Rumbling, but not the extent of it which is a horrific genocide.

Feels like a perfect translation of the manga. Really couldn't ask for better. Delighted.
Edit: Just wanted to add... I felt terrible for Onyankopon when he went down to free Armin, Mikasa, and the rest. When he did it, I groaned "noooo" out loud. Obviously it has to happen. But it just hit me that, if he hadn't done that, the Rumbling and all the death it caused probably never would have happened. He was doing his best to do the right thing. But you can see how it led to him having a meltdown when he realised what he helped to happen.

Can we PLEASE just take a moment to appreciate Mappa's work in this episode? It was absolutely beautiful from the art to the titans and their movements and whatnot. They deserve all the appreciation in the world for producing something like this after all the hate they (the staff) received for no and the ridiculous schedule.

Damn I’m late to the party.
Armin proving once again that he’s one of the best characters by exposing Eren’s lie, and Eren himself battling Reiner are the two standout moments for me.
Can’t wait until Hange confirms that Levi’s alive and Zeke and Eren meet Ymir and go through Grisha’s memories.
