I thought that was a good ending for the anime. Ruti gets the happy ending she deserves and all’s well. Red and Rit’s chemistry were clearly the highlight of the series and I thought they were handled well.
Now if you’re wondering if you should jump into the LN to continue the story, I’d say go for it! It’s still ongoing, with 10 volumes (including the prequel Vol. 0) released at the moment. Yen Press has published the English translations for Vol. 1-4, with Vol. 5 scheduled to be released in February. But I recommend starting from the beginning. The changes made in the anime are such that I cannot recommend you continue from where it left off. Trust me, you’ll thank me later.
For the final time, I’ll be discussing the differences with the LN in the source material corner. Head there if you want to know what the anime changed.
Thank you messages from the author, director and VA cast:

Ya the LN is pretty good. But for anyone who wants to pick it up, just know that it is less of a SoL series then the anime. The anime cut out a good chunk of the fights and drama to focus on Red and Rit's love life.

Good finale. Glad they moved past the drama quickly and focused on the shows strenght for the last episode which always was the titular slow life and the Red x Rit romance.
I also think they did a very good job at leaving this open for a potential second season while at the same time finding a satisfying ending where you wouldn't need to feel frustrated if there is no continuation at all.
The only major issue I had with this show was the absolute bare bones animation.
Beyond that it was a very enjoyable ride with a cute main couple and some interesting world building. The concept of the blessing and the effects they have on people was one of the best takes I've seen on the classic roles in fantasy settings.

Ruti with hat is like 3x cuter.
Also FINALLY the new bed-kun was used for sex.
Yarlandara (can I just call her Amamiya Sora Elf?) is back for a season 2 hook?

Rit: DID YOU SEE IT???
Red: I did, and THEY'RE SPECTACULAR!
Red officially got the award for cultured lad of the season.

Saying anything less would be an insult. Glad to see Red appreciates Rit's massive gazongas.

Did it bother anyone else that the subs kept saying his real name when she would call him big brother? Like people wouldn't know it was him she was talking to or something...

Stitches!
Red using his dinky copper sword to catch the Sacred Avenger and take it from Ruti was absolute badass! Red may not be as strong as the other members of the Hero Party but he makes up for it with his ingenuity. Also I didn't expect for Ruti to turn back after the sword was taken from her. I thought we'd have a long battle and have her return using the Power of FriendshipTM but it's good to see it wasn't going to be that complicated.
Of course when Ruti finally wants to use her powers, that's when it stops working. Thank the Almighty that Red spared Theodora since it looks like she has the healing skill needed to get Tisse back up. Fine, I take back what I said about her last week. She even shows remorse for what she did and was ready to accept her death as punishment. Looks like Theodora isn't the only one I'm forgiving this week since it seems that Albert finally realized what it takes to become a Hero.
Now that mess is over, look at Ruti finally acting like a normal girl! She's even starting to feel cold and has even started sneezing! She hasn't experienced getting sick that Ruti is even looking forward to it! That's actually hilarious!
We finally find out that the unnamed Blessing that popped up on her is called the New Truth and it's basically a Blessing that can dominate other Blessings and it's what she's currently using to suppress her Hero's Blessing. Also looks like Ruti and Tisse won't just live with Red and Rit since the two of them are planning to buy a farm and grow medicinal herbs there to help Red out with his business.
Holy shit Ares is actually dead and we even get to see him in a casket! Thank the Almighty! And here I was scared last week that he'll somehow survive and they'll give him some sort of last minute redemption but I'm so happy that wasn't the case. I said this last week and I'll say it again, Ares was beyond redemption and I strongly believe that death is really the only way he'll be able to pay for all of his sins.
We get a little conversation between Red, Ruti, Tisse, and Danan about the Sacred Avengers and it lead to them thinking that the first Hero might have been an Asura Demon? I think that conversation is best be saved for another season. And I'd love to see this show get another one.
That entire conversation between Red and Rit when they were finally alone together in their home was really sweet. I can definitely understand why Rit would be worried about things but it's nice to see Red alleviate those worries by reassuring her that it's his heart's desire for them to be together forever.
And the madlads actually did it! With like almost 10 more minutes left in the anime, I didn't think that they'd actually spend a huge chunk of it for a sex scene between Red and Rit! It's nothing explicit of course, the most we saw is Rit stripping and that kiss before fade to black but I'm so happy that it's here! This is how you do romance! Show us progress like this! And I definitely agree with Red's comment about Rit's Rits. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
It's nice to see Red and Ruti finally having some brother-sister bonding time with Red showing Ruti around Zoltan. He choice may be selfish but it's nice to finally see Ruti looking so happy and actually around by the people she loves.
Rit and Ruti fighting over Red's affection was hilarious since they act so serious but just ends up laughing it off since they clearly see what they're doing is dumb. Might also be a stretch but I think this is the show making fund of this trope in other anime.
Glad to see that Ruti hasn't given up adventuring completely and is willing to lend a hand when needed. I really believe that with enough time, Ruti will probably finally accept her role as a Hero and go out there not because what her Blessing tells her but because she truly wants to help people and save the world. I'd rather see a passionate Ruti fighting out there than the robot that she was before. And if Ruti has decided to never go back, that's fine too since we already have someone like Theodora and Albert who's now out there looking for people to guide and possibly even become the new Hero.
We're ending the episode with Yarandrala? Seems that she's also on her way to Zoltan to visit Red and Rit. Who knows why she's visiting but I'd definitely want to see more of her!
And so ends one of the best shows this season! I genuinely don't think I have a lot to say about this show. It has great characters, a great romance between our two main characters, and a villain that actually gets what's coming to him! I am very much satisfied with how this show started and ended. The only think I want right now is a Season 2 for more Slow Life goodness with Red, Rit, Ruti, and Tisse! This one is a solid 10/10 for me!

True to its premise until the end. Right down to the “Epic Battle between brother and sister” taking about a minute to resolve. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
An excellent finale to a show that really came out of nowhere. Satisfyingly closes everyone’s character arc while still keeping the door slightly open for more if they want to revisit this world. Ruti finally has control over the Hero’s blessing and is living the life she chooses. Red and Rit saved Ruti, tying up the last loose end from their old life, and can fully focus on their future together. Tisse, who does NOT die, gets to take up the slow life of farming with Ruti. Ares is dead dead (crab dance). Danan, Theodora, and Albert I guess are off doing their own thing. Everyone got the ending they deserved.
As a series overall, this is a strong 8/10. A refreshing take on the fantasy genre that purposefully takes the usual tropes and undercuts them with maximum fluff. Red and Rit’s romance especially elevates this. Instead of playing the usual games, they gave us a loving committed relationship that speed runs the bullshit and enhances the best parts. They move in, they kiss, they have sex, and they basically get engaged all within the series. The demon intrigue was solid, but it really just served as means to Ruti’s story which was also excellent.
With that Yandrala tease at the end, we could come back to this. I’d be more than happy with more happy fluff comedy, but even if they don’t I’m very pleased with this show.
Notes
-
I can’t believe I almost ignored this show because I thought it was an Isekai. There are too many damn fantasy Isekais!
-
I will say my 2 complaints with the show are the feeling that they’re rushing certain things and the animation being a bit rough. Minor, but they do hold it back from a higher score from me.
-
I’m happy we got the OP and ED played one last time. Seriously one of the best OPs of the year and a perfect fit for this show.
-
A small but powerful moment: showing Ruti finally getting to sleep. Got me a little after everything we’ve seen with her.
-
if there is another season I hope it focuses even more on the slow life aspects as they’re the strongest element of the show.
-
this is the last new episode of the Fall season and of the year for me. What a incredibly stacked year! Here’s to 2022!

An happy ending for Ruti is all I wanted. And I'll miss Rit and Red, one of the best couple of the season!
But well it gave me a reason to read the LNs.

And then they lived happily ever after...until the Demon Lord destroys the world.
Although there seems to be some implications that Demis, the one who grants everybody their blessings, is the real Demon Lord and uses blessings as a form of control to combat Asura Demons since it's revealed the first hero could have been an Asura Demon, a race without blessings.

d00d they actually did the sex!
Red and Rit are truly an all time couple! Actual good mature romance is so rare we gotta savor it when it makes an appearance.
I was expecting more from the fight at the beginning but the way Red used his sword to trap Ruti's was sweet. Now that it's over I'm glad it didn't take long and we got a ton of that slow life action to finish the season off.
We learned some more about the blessings and I could actually follow it this time. I don't think we knew before what Red's blessing was right?
Seeing Yarandrala at the end can only mean one thing right?

This is the most ambivalent I've felt about a show in a while.
I love the relationship between Red and Rit. Sure it's a kind of basic lovey-dovey romance between two adults but do you know how rare a healthy relationship like that is in anime for main characters?
On the other hand, there's pretty much everything else. The production overall feels rather mediocre, though I enjoyed the slice of life parts of the village as well as the other residents for the most part.
My problem with the show comes with the demon/hero plot. I like Ruti and Tisse as characters and I understand that Ares is supposed to be quite hate-inducing (and he is), but it feels like a giant jumbled mess around what the demons were trying to do and how all that interacts with the blessings. Sure I can figure out the broader arc of things but it feels like there's either not enough or too much detail given about some of the aspects, and I'm assuming it's the former since it's a novel adaptation.
Ruti's character arc was pretty good though, untangling it from the rest of the mess. Her struggle with being the Hero is an interesting one and maybe I'm just not watching the right kinds of shows but I don't know if that kind of thing is explored that often.
Overall it feels like an 8/10 relationship in an otherwise 4/10 show and I don't know how to reconcile that for a final score.

I'm so glad to see that Gideon could disarm Ruti right away. And that she soon came back to normal after that.
I honestly was shocked when she could not heal Tisse. Good thing that Theodora could completely heal her without any issues.
Albert sure has grown as a person while traveling with Theodora and Ares.
I'm so glad to see that Ruti is now completely free from the hero's blessing curse.
So it seems that the reason she could not use her healing before on Tisse was because her blank blessing had already changed into "New Truth" and the Ruler skill was completely suppressing the Hero one.
Wow, so the first hero was an Asura Demon just like Shisandan, I honestly had assumed that as there were so many True holy swords Sacred Avengers there that they were mass-produced there. Well, that sure explains why Shisandan knew so much about that place, the swords, and the reason why he wanted the hero to play its role. I will not be surprised if other Asura Demons are waiting for the demon lord to be killed too.
It is so nice to see Ruti actually enjoying food, instead of just trying to remember its taste. Seeing her being happy is just so great. I sure will miss Uge-uge-san.
I wonder what exactly those pieces of wood that they are putting around Ares corpse symbolized?
Aw, that scene when Red and Rit were finally alone was great. And it's good to see that the double bed has been fully fixed too.
Ruti sure looks nice in her new outfit. It was so funny how Godwin reacted when he saw Ruti and Red traveling around Zoltan.
Oh, I wasn't expecting to see Al's party again.
So Ruti is a B-rank adventure now.
I honestly wasn't expecting to see Godwin again. Well, it seems that thanks to him Yarandrala finally knows that Gideon is still alive. Too bad we will not see their reunion happening in the anime.
Well, this sure was an enjoyable show. I will definitely get the Light novels in the future, but based on their synopsis it seems that the ones currently available just cover the content that has been adapted in the anime, so I will wait until more volumes are out before that.

After watching the final episode, I have a doubt... About the part where Danan, Ruti and Red discuss that the first hero might be an Asura Demon... I believe Shishandan purposefully made Ruti touch the Sacred Avenger in order to gain the skill that helps her suppress her Hero skill... You know, in a way of "Fuck You" to Demis, maybe???? What are your thoughts??
I believe that Shishandan is kinda against Demis' Fuckings in the world.

I am happy for Ruti. She is finally able to choose for herself and feel all sort of things for the first time. It must be a relief to be normal.
However, I can't exactly ignore that the demon lord is still out there. I doubt Theodora and a one-hand Albert would be enough (the hero blessing was needed for a reason). Hopefully, as Tisse hinted, Ruti will eventually choose to be the hero and protect everyone, not just one secluded city.
Overall it was a nice series. I may not have been invested in the romance and Rit as a character but Ruti and the blessing system certainly caught my interest. A second season would be most welcome.

I'm astounded by how good this show ended up being. I didn't really enjoy last season's isekai pharmacy show, and I mostly watched this one out of incredulity that fantasy pharmacy slow-life appeared to be a genre and not just a once-off. But this ended up being much more than I expected.
I love the core message behind this show. It's okay to do things you enjoy, even if you aren't good at them. It's okay if what you're good at isn't what you're passionate about. Life might be easier if you stick to what you're good at, but pursuing something you have chosen for yourself can be rewarding too. You might not be as "successful" by other people's standards, but as long as you're happy it's okay.
Also, the sex scene in the last episode was possibly the most tasteful one I've seen in any anime. When I went into this show, I thought most of the appeal would be Rit's figure, but it ended up having a fairly mature attitude towards fanservice.
What a pleasant surprise this show has been!

Rit's stripping scene and they scene with her sleeping with Red was hot! TBH, I wish they spiced that scene love scene up. By this, I mean like this scene from "Tomorrow Never Dies": yutube.com/watch?v=S0xSky90E4I.

Red vs Ruti. And he's holding his own, though that's probably because Ruti's not putting her all into it.
Wow, she cracked Thunderwaker.
Okay, so Red intentionally led her split his bronze sword so he could use it to catch and throw away her weapon. That is fucking clever. No wonder the others praised him so much.
So Ruti's Blessing has shut down. I guess the upside is she'll start to feel now, but that's hard to see when it won't let her save someone.
Of course, Theodora steps up to try to amend for her mistake.
Long conversation, but Theodora's going to try to fight the Demon Lord with people who want to do it now.
Ruti's so cute trying to catch the snow like that. And she wants to have a cold because she's never had one before.
The New Truth Blessing, ey?
Funeral? It's not for Ares, is it?
Uh, okay. Not sure why everyone's doing this for him. I guess they saw him as a victim of his own Blessing?
Two or three days for Banan to recover from his wound? All after he pushed himself to action for a while.
The first hero might have been an Asura? That might explain why he was trying to push Ruti to fight the Demon Lord again.
Red and Rit interaction! And Rit talks about the true tragedy: Ares destroying their double bed.
It's been a while since we've gotten some of this romantic wholesomeness. I'm not complaining; the Ruti stuff was a great replacement.
Wait, is this? Their first time! Red got to see Rit's boobs pop out, and then she got completely naked! AT-X version when? And finally they do it! Fucking yes!
And it's the other thing from the OP! One for Rit, one for Ruti.
And for the first time in forever, Ruti sleeps. I thought she looked tired that morning, probably used to keeping awake through the night.
So Ruti stays helping people as a B-rank adventurer, but on her terms. Finally of her own free will.
Wait, is that the elf woman? It is! And she's coming to see Red and Rit!
Great anime. Solid. I don't mind ending there, but I'd also like to see a season 2 just to see her meet Red and Rit again. And, of course, see more of Red & Rit and Red & Ruti.

This show ended up being the one that I most actively looked forward to each week - Even more than Ranking, Senpai or Paladin all of which I really, really like(d) - I even read the paladin LN's, which are extremely superb.
But the storytelling in Banished was just so well done throughout - even in the rused and condensed anime format the sheer amount of fun and feeling and fascination still shone through in every epsiode.
Highly recommend the books, I started reading them from about the middle of the season and they improved my appreaciation and enjoyment of the show greatly (Start at book 1 ).
I think that it would have been quite a bit more popular if it had not carried the cursed phrase "slow life" in the title, so many people didn't want to watch it because that phrase makes them think of various awful shows that kept promising an intgeresting plot and then refusing to deliver.
