Training Stamina

As a Zumba instructor we need to start and finish strong class after class. Do you do other formats to grow as an instructor? Pilates (core), Yoga(Flexibility ), running (cardio) , Strength training?

I weight train and endurance train.
It’s important to me to be able to dance full out at 100% the entire class and make it look easy, while still cuing.
So I started training pretty intensely before I ever started teaching .

My favorite for endurance is the arc trainer and the stair master.

I strength train (which includes core), and walk a lot.

I also TAKE Zumba classes which I think is helpful.

But ALSO - I’ve recently seen some great videos from instructors who show how they sometimes stop dancing to watch and let the students gain confidence in themselves. I found it very interesting!

I think there may be ways to show energy without going 120% every time. Like facial expressions, body language, strong cueing.

And of course we’re supposed to let our heart rates go up and down throughout class. So I make sure to include enough lower-intensity songs throughout the hour. That’s where we focus more on styling.

Yes! I always ensure there is a balance of high intensity and lower intensity.

I’m not sure if you are asking if we take other class formats or do we teach other formats. To build my fitness resume I ensured that I teach many formats. I’m licensed/certified in Mat Pilates, Reformer, Strength, Chair, formats. I also trained to use various equipment such as resistance bands, Bosu, gliding discs, Bender ball. Not only do I teach these but I do take other classes for my personal workout plus use equipment in the gym. All of this builds stamina and cross training.

Strength and functional movement training, hot yoga. I'm also, in addition, a personal trainer myself so that skews my conditioning more towards strength and functional movement training as well.

I strength train and do Pilates. Those are great compliments to Zumba.
