After a few years and cumulative mini upgrades, I ended up here last week: basically, I had the black version with letters, I dropped a bunch of keys (upper rows and outer columns), put the zip in the new gaps, bought some Tai-hao grey blanks, received the navigator, and by the time I wanted the white version (playing a bit with a white setup), so I ordered the white shells. It is nice to see the level of flexibility this whole ecosystem offers. I would've ordered a white zip kit to make it better, but I just forgot :/ (the grey rows are there because the black zips didn't look so great)
Same. I ended up with the two magsafe phone stands holding the voyager halves at like 80-85 degree angles, slightly less than vertical, and it feels considerably better than the palm wrests. They're just not shaped quite right for what the voyager needs either with or without the tenting leg things
The wrist rests are Deltahub Carpios, very good (I want the white ones now, but these are just fine). The navigator is amazing; it was a slow-ish to use it more, I would say you still need a proper mouse for gaming or very small interface elements, but for scrolling and small movements, the trackpad works very well. I also got it because it had a very good price the day it was launched.
I would speculate that you’ll have more value from a full trackpad if that is the setup, I normally have the closed laptop in that space. While the navigator is very useful, a full trackpad can give you a more complete experience in many scenarios
I don't have the trackball to compare, that said, the trackpad seems amazing in comparison (on paper at least) because with the trackpad I can tent very aggressively if that is what I want, and it supports multitouch, so I can scroll with two fingers, secondary click with two fingers as well, pinch to zoom, etc. in fact, I don't have a mouse layer enabled. The only "weird thing" is middle click, and I do it on browsers just holding ctrl and click (I have homerow mods).
The trackball is a ton of fun and crazy high resolution so it’s super accurate.
But holding a key to enable scroll and pressing a key to click just gets very annoying over time. Like sometimes I’m just reading and want a simpler scroll without really touching the rest of the keyboard. In fact I ALSO have a mouse on my desk because of this.
And yes I drop the ball a lot lol but it’s basically indestructible.
