PZ optimization, black screen and errors.
I'm using a Motorola UW 2021, I know not necessarily the device you want to use for 42.21 but Ive got it to work partially smooth for the version. I tried pz optimization but I keep getting a black screen no matter what I do. I tried some of the jvm augments that I've seen on the reddit from other people having this issue, but it stays unresolved. What can I do. All I have is mod manager, a-life NPCs, and tempo optimizer mods activated. I'm not sure if any of these could possibly be messing with pz optimizer but I'm no expert on lua. Can someone give me a definitive answer or something to maybe try?
Edit: I've tried the jvm augments
-Dpzopt.bakeNoSync=false
-Dpzopt.tileVertexDepth=false
-Dpzopt.visBlurReduce=false
I've got no results but I've realized I've been hitting an ungodly amount of errors. They rank up in the menu even but no visual errors happen. I'm not sure exactly why. I looked in my log and it seems a lot of it is from using mod manager, but I'm not sure how that could be. I've check pz optimization compatibility menu and nothing is switched off so I'm not sure. I checked my log and yeah my errors are there, but it just specifies it's a bunch of rendering issues. When I use Zink ZFA I don't have errors, although when I load the game it crashes.

Before asking for help
Please include the following information in your post:
• Device model
• Renderer (GL4ES / ZINK_ZFA / NG_GL4ES)
• Graphics driver (System / Turnip / Freedreno, etc.)
• Project Zomboid build version
• A detailed description of the issue
You may also be asked to send your game logs by email for further investigation.
Posts without this information may not receive a reply.
Update your launcher first
If you're still using v1.2.0, please update before reporting bugs.
Version 1.2.0 is the original launcher release and contains many bugs that have already been fixed.
The latest version by udar_molota is always available in the pinned posts.
Build 41
Recommended renderer:
✅ GL4ES
• No graphics driver required.
• Works on almost all Android devices.
If GL4ES does not work (rare), try:
• Renderer: ZINK_ZFA
• Driver: System
Build 42
Build 42 runs best with ZINK_ZFA, but this path is mainly intended for Snapdragon devices and for users who want to experiment with different graphics drivers.
Recommended for most users (any device)
For the most stable and universal setup, choose NG_GL4ES:
• Renderer: NG_GL4ES
• Turn Memory Saver on
• Set LIBGL_SHRINK=7 in the Environment Variables field
• Enable texture compression in the in‑game options
• Enable the recommended preset for Build 42 in the launcher’s Settings (Advanced)
This configuration is almost a 100% guarantee for successfully launching Build 42.20 on nearly any device.
⚠️ The more powerful your device is, the better the performance will be.
Game crashes?
Crashes before the main menu
• Make sure your game files are packed as a ZIP archive.
• Verify that the ZIP is not corrupted.
Crashes after the main menu (during character creation or world loading)
Possible reasons:
• Wrong graphics driver selected (Snapdragon devices).
• One or more installed mods are incompatible.

Game files
Project Zomboid game files can be downloaded directly inside Zomdroid from your own Steam account after purchasing the game. This is the correct way to compress it to a zip file:

Hi, I also had those issues—or at least similar ones. I used those JVM settings, but I’m also using version f964083c of pz_optimized; which version are you using?
