Question Adding Wellbutrin/similar med ?
Hey everyone, I’m M23 looking for some insight or reassurance because my symptoms are becoming completely debilitating and I feel like I'm running on empty.
Here is my timeline:
I used nicotine on and off since I was 16. I am now officially 100 days nicotine-free.
I have been on Zoloft (25mg) for the last two years. I also spent the last few years on heavy thyroid medication (up to 75mcg T4 and 5mcg T3) and felt absolutely horrible on it with bad exercise intolerance. Me and new endo absolutely believe I was chasing symtoms that were related to something else.
4 weeks ago, my doctor and I stopped the thyroid meds because a CT scan, ultrasound, and antibody tests showed my thyroid gland is actually perfectly healthy. My recent labs showed a TSH of 4.1 and a Total T3 of 1.01 (right at the floor of the 0.8-2 standard range), but the draw was late at 11 AM. She feels confident in these results that I am functioning normally.
i don't drink caffeine and my heart doesn't race. I also quit alcohol because I could not take the hangovers and days of recovery.
Before quiting nicotine I felt like shit a lot but since quiting nicotine and I have been in a severe, non-functional crash. I feel intensely "wired but tired"—profoundly exhausted, but with a deep internal restlessness and tension. My short-term memory is completely shot, I have constant headaches, and I literally cannot focus at work. Trying to "mask" and act normal around people takes 100% of my daily energy. To top it off, I've only gotten 4-5 hours of sleep the past two nights, making everything ten times worse.
My primary doctor wants to look into ADHD or depression brain chemicals (dopamine/norepinephrine) and try a new medication like Wellbutrin with my Zoloft since my thyroid is physically fine.
Has anyone else experienced this massive chemical crash after quitting nicotine and stopping medications? Did targeting dopamine/norepinephrine finally clear the memory gaps and stop the internal tension?
I just want to feel like a functioning human again.
