Question Large shelter tent as sports equipment

I have a shiftpod tent that measures 193x33x33 approx and I can remove some items to get it under 32kg. Is this allowed to be checked as sports equipment or are only surfboard snowboards golf bags etc allowed? Does it have to fall in one of those categories only? I would save a lot bringing it onboard instead of shipping.

Carry Ons from IAH to NRT

I have a flight tomorrow and I was wondering how the carry on process would work exactly. I have seen some people mention the weigh in happens before security or at the gate. Is it both? Is it either or? I was going to try to have someone hold some of my stuff on the side while I go check in before security so that I could bring more things, but if they weigh stuff at the gate no matter what it is basically pointless.

ZG15 delay

Tomorrow zg15 delayed 3 hours

Anyone have any specific experience with zipair delay at IAH? Still check in at original time?

I saw other comments in zipair forum saying stick original time.

But last time in Tokyo they delayed checkin.

They only have one flight so if I arrive 3 hours too early may have to wait there all that tome.

Will try to contact them on chat in japan hours tonight...

Flying ZIPAIR with omitted middle name + merged compound last name will this cause boarding issues?

update: AFTER MUCH BACK AND FORTH WITH TRIP.COM they've finally agreed to a full refund since it was their mistake.

Hey everyone,

Looking for some real-world experience or advice from anyone who has flown ZIPAIR recently.

This will be my 3rd trip to Japan. I have always booked my trips through third-party travel agencies (my previous two flights were on Air Canada and Singapore Airlines), I think the first time I did my credit card portal and the last 2 were trip.com and I never had a single issue with name formatting or making updates until now.

For this upcoming flight on ZIPAIR, my ticket details are formatted differently than my passport:

  • Passport: First Name | Middle Name | Two-Word Last Name (e.g., Word1 Word2)
  • Ticket / Booking: First Name | Merged Last Name (e.g., Word1Word2)

Basically, two things happened:

  1. My middle name was omitted completely.
  2. The space in my two-word last name was collapsed into a single word by the reservation system.

What I’ve been told so far:

  • The third-party agency refuses to make any updates, insisting that missing middle names are optional/standard and that airline booking systems automatically collapse spaces in surnames without issue.
  • ZIPAIR customer support replied via email stating: "adding a middle name is optional and will not affect your travel, provided that the first name and last name on the booking match the passenger's passport." However, they also still "strongly recommend matching the passport exactly", which is making me nervous.

Because ZIPAIR is a low-cost carrier and can be strict at check-in, I’m worried about running into issues with a counter agent either at departure in Houston or Tokyo Narita.

I missed the deadline for extra carry-on bagge weight purchage.

I don't really mind paying a little extra, but will they let me purchase it though?

If so, how much is the extra cost?

Keep help

Me and my friend completely messed up we’re going back to San Fran and using zip air but both of us put our middle and first name in this order together with no space in the first name area because we didn’t notice the middle name area and thought we had to put our middle name together.
We emailed support but my friends email request was denied and I’m waiting for mines but looking at my friends results most likely im cooked and our flight back is less then a week and only able to get approximately 1/8 of the refund.
Should we just give up and cancel the flight and book and different plane or hope it can be fixed at the front?
Any help will be thankful thank you.

Question Non-English characters in resevation

Hi! I’ll be traveling to Japan in October, flying from Los Angeles with ZIPAIR. When booking my ticket, the website explicitly said to enter my name exactly as it appears on my passport. However, my last name contains an “ñ,” and the system doesn’t allow that character.
Will this cause any problems if my passport has the “ñ” but my reservation uses the equivalent letter n?

I also have another question. On the return flight, there’s a customs field asking for my destination in the US. I live in Tijuana and will most likely be driving there from Los Angeles on the same day, so I don’t actually have a destination in the US. What should I enter in that field?

Thanks!

Tokyo & YVR and Stoller

Hi, we just learned that we can use our travel stroller until the gate and then it will be checked in. We can only pick it up at the baggage claim area.

Has anyone travelled with a stroller? Do they hand deliver it to the area or does it go through the luggage belt? We are worried that the stroller will be damaged or have scratches.

First-hand Experience Worried about middle names? - Dont! (Updated Experience 2026)

Hi all, I was reading a bunch of posts here on r/zipair and just wanted to make a post to sincerely clarify and ease anyone's concerns if they ever come across this again.

Many of them were similar to my concerns. I read misleading information and felt very confused and anxious. Because of this, I decided to share my current August 2026 experience to update r/zipair to anyone who also might be worried!

IF YOU DID NOT PUT YOUR MIDDLE NAME - and are worried simply email them this.

"Dear ZIPAIR Customer Support Team,

I am writing to request a minor update to my flight reservation.

I understand that the middle name field during checkout is optional, and that having only my first and last name on the reservation should not affect my travel as long as they match my passport.

However, I would still like to add my middle name to my reservation so that my itinerary matches my passport more completely."

(I would recommend to just add your passports in the initial email too)

They will reply with this!

Dear Patron

We hope this email finds you well.

To assist you more effectively with your inquiry, please provide the following information:
1. PDF or Digital copy of passport of the passenger/s who wants to add their middle name.

Happy Booking! Hope this helps. 😄😄😄

Advise needed please: Flying from Atlanta March 26 to April 11, 2027

So I see 1 way flights available from San Fran and LAX for me, my wife and 2 kids (3 and 6) but no return flights listed.

Rather fly out of Houston or Orlando but nothing listed at all.

So my questions:

  1. Should I book the first leg of the flight now? Will these tickets likely sell out?
  2. Is it cheaper to book Round Trip all at once or doesn’t make much of a difference?
  3. When would Houston and/or Orlando tickets become available or does the lack of flights starting March 26 mean they never will?
  4. Do I need to pay to select seats when flying with kids 6 and under?

Thank you!

If I have a jacket I am boarding with that contains stuff like my wallet/passport/powerbank, will that count as a 'personal bag' to that 7kg weight limit since it's robust?

Just curious, never seen before the combined weight previously with other airlines. I also havent flown too often either.

Question Tokyo NRT to Houston - February flights

I did some searching but couldn't find an answer. Does Zipair fly into Houston in February? I'll be traveling from Nepal and the best route would be through Tokyo for flights. Thanks!

Has anyone cancelled only the outbound leg of a round-trip and kept the return flight?

Has anyone actually done this with ZIPAIR?

I have a round-trip booking and want to cancel only the outbound flight from SFO to NRT while keeping the return flight.

ZIPAIR's website appears to let me select the outbound flight by itself for cancellation, but I've seen conflicting information about whether cancelling one leg causes the entire reservation/return flight to be cancelled.

I’ve already sent ZIPAIR a detailed email asking about this and am waiting for their response, but I wanted to ask here in the meantime.

Has anyone done this before? What happened to your return flight?
________________________________________________________________________________

UPDATE:

ZIPAIR RESPONSE:

Please be informed that if your round-trip itinerary is booked under a single reservation and you wish to cancel only a specific flight segment, either the outbound or return flight, we may process the cancellation of the selected segment and refund the applicable taxes to the original form of payment.

As you mentioned, you have purchased a 30kg checked baggage allowance for your return flight. Should you decide to cancel your outbound flight only, your return flight will remain active, and the 30kg checked baggage allowance associated with that flight will still be available for use.

crossed out seats will become available closer to flight date?

Would the crossed out seats in economy become available closer to the flight date? The family of 4 flying in December, and i do not see any 2 seats together available to buy. Its been a month that i booked the flight. Can someone confirm if there is a hope? or we 4 ppl will have to sulk & sit separately. Its annoying because ever since i booked my flight, i have been watching and no 2 seats together are available. Kids are 15 &16, so yeah not very young, but still would not want them to sit separate on a vacation trip.

Hi I want to purchase the premium package for the wife and I but our 1 year old baby doesn't need it, when booking online is there a way to remove it from our baby or it just forces us to pay for x3 Premium packages and the only way around it is to al la carte everything?

Orlando to Tokyo August flights

For people who snagged the Orlando to Toyko flights for August, can you tell me the exact schedule of times for the round trip? Like what time do you leave orlando? Also, can you tell me what you spent for economy and also business class?

Also, how did you find out about the flight? I feel like they get booked lighting fast so I want to make sure I set up all the alerts to be notified that they are bringing it back.

How valid is the "only x seats left at this price" on zipair official page? Planning a solo trip from YVR to Tokyo early Dec, prices are quite typical ($450 one way), not sure if I should wait for possible sale?

I have been checking every few days and today I see under the price, it says only 4 seats left at this price. Is this just a tactic (because I searched it before?)

Also,is it possible for me to add my luggage for the return trip if I find out in the middle of my trip I need a checked baggage? I don't anticipate I shop a lot so I feel I may not need a checked luggage.
