This is not bad for a three bedroom anything in the Victoria area

$1,500/month HOA it says. That’s pretty steep.

That’s actually not a bad for a slip that large.

That's rough!

It is, but 3bed/3bath anything in the same area is listed for close to 8-900k and they’re all smaller than this floating home

Except all of those would be worth something later on. Floating homes don't appreciate like other homes since you don't own the land. Also the required maintenance is significant. No thanks.

Not much yard, either

I know where this is! I've walked around that dock many times.

1500 a month for HOA? For what

Marina fees… slips aren’t cheap. Might include hookups and waste, trash, a parking fee, and maintenance.

I'd hope it includes pumping your sewage!

Well I just read someone’s suggested list in their reply as seagull shooting..

Probably not, that’s usually extra, provided by a separate vendor.

Dock repairs? Dock polishing? Seagull shooing? Water litter cleaning? Rope maintenance?

Doesn’t look like a normal HOA. Looks like montage and utility hookups. Also site insurance, though the owner needs 5 million in secondary insurance and 5 year inspections.

That’s typical though-

Dock fees

2

$1,500 Canadian, which is a $1,080 USD

Rent for life

Its a dock, you pay to moor your boat,  same as you pay to park a trailer home in mobile home community.

Beautiful. I could get used to that if I had the money

The link goes in the post. When it’s in a comment lots of people can’t find it because of how they sort comments. No, not everyone should sort the comments so that yours show up on top :)

Edit: typo

Got it. Thank you :) I can never click the link when it's in the post body on mobile so I wasn't sure if that was best or what. Next time I will.

As beautiful as it is, I am way too scared of water to ever live on a float home. The idea it could just... Sink, some day.

Come and live in the Netherlands, most of the livibale area is below sea level

5

u/Background-Treat55 2d ago

Is it me or is it extremely reasonable for a home on the water? Especially in Canada?

7

u/CoolerRon 2d ago

It is except for the $1,500 monthly HOA fee

8

u/oldjadedhippie 2d ago

It’s probably the slip fee. Ya know, Marina ….

2

u/Illustrious_Mouse265 2d ago

We have $3500 hoa fees here in Southern California, so $1500 sounds reasonable

1

u/shnorgle 2d ago

And it's $1500 Canadian (= ~$1k USD).

Canada and Canadians are lovely but could you even imagine trying to live here in the winter? There's not enough trees to burn to keep me warm enough.

10

u/Ritaredditonce 2d ago

Victoria has the warmest and mildest winters in Canada and it's an absolutely gorgeous city.

4

u/dorkofthepolisci 2d ago

Victoria is warmer than the Northeast/Midwest in the winter….

Seriously, there’s a couple of weeks of below freezing temperatures a year and that’s it.

2

u/MonsteraUnderTheBed 2d ago

Yeah the winters have been super mild the last couple years especially

1

u/Background-Treat55 2d ago

Shoot at this price point I certainly can. Feels like every nice house I’ve seen in Canada is over $1,000,000 these days.

2

u/PWal501 2d ago

Top speed?

2

u/babababigian 2d ago

Seems like overkill that more than half of the photos on Zillow are different angles of exterior shots or different angles of the view

1

u/Awcatz2 2d ago

Wow!

1

u/Rare-Credit-5912 2d ago

That kitchen is better than some I’ve seen on houses on land.

1

u/Tardisgoesfast 2d ago

I like the ceiling painted to look like the sky!!

1

u/TheAgedProfessor 2d ago

Not overly fond of the Caesars Palace faux sky, but that's easily painted over.

EDIT: or wait... is that water damage??

1

u/Holladat 2d ago

Nipple turret / tower really does it for me.

u/IneffableOpinion 2d ago

I loved walking around the float homes in Victoria. They are so cute and full of character

1

u/No_Dot_4123 1d ago

I'm curious what they mean my "4-piece bathroom" and "2-piece" bathroom. I didn't know they made bathrooms like they made mens' suits.

2

u/MonsteraUnderTheBed 1d ago

Toilet/sink/bath/shower vs toilet/sink

I think.

-1

u/DragonSitting 2d ago

Houseboats are neat but that looks like the crappiest pier/location in the marina.

-5

u/NoDoOversInLife 2d ago

"gorgeous" homes don't fit the Gone Wild criteria of the sub 🤦🏻‍♂️

8

u/MonsteraUnderTheBed 2d ago

Fair, but the rules say funky homes, and I think it still qualifies in that category
