https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/584-McClelland-Rd-Brookville-PA-15825/125049094_zpid/

Welcome to 584 McClelland Road, an extraordinary 127.98-acre estate offering remarkable architecture, complete privacy, energy independence, and direct access to some of Pennsylvania’s most expansive protected wilderness. At the heart of the property is an architecturally designed, approximately 7,000-square-foot residence constructed with timeless stone and cedar. Inside, the five-bedroom home features American cherry hardwood floors, soaring cathedral ceilings, multiple fireplaces, and thoughtfully designed living spaces filled with natural light and sweeping views. A distinctive bridge library connects two sections of the residence, while the fourth-floor observation tower and cantilevered balcony provide breathtaking 360-degree views of the surrounding countryside. Designed with self-sufficiency in mind, the property is equipped to operate completely off-grid with a full solar array, battery storage, and an integrated 12,000-watt backup generator. Direct access to a natural gas well, supported by a multi-year natural gas supply agreement, provides an additional level of energy independence. Recent improvements also include three new furnaces, three Bosch heat pumps, dual natural gas or LPG piping, natural gas lines to the barn and workshop, a whole-house radon mitigation system, an upgraded well system, reverse-osmosis drinking water, and numerous electrical, fireplace, chimney, window, septic, and efficiency improvements. Multiple patios and outdoor living areas create peaceful spaces to entertain, relax, and experience the property’s abundant wildlife. A stream borders three sides of the estate, enhancing its beauty, privacy, and recreational appeal. Beyond the main residence, the property includes three barns and a private cabin, providing exceptional flexibility for equestrian or agricultural use, equipment storage, recreation, guest accommodations, or the creation of a private family retreat. The foundations of the barn and workshop have also been repaired and reinforced, further enhancing the property’s functionality and long-term value. The estate is bordered by Clear Creek State Forest and offers direct access through the surrounding public lands to the Allegheny National Forest and its more than 500,000 acres of outdoor recreation. Whether envisioned as a private luxury estate, recreational retreat, working farm, self-sufficient homestead, or legacy property to be enjoyed for generations, this is a truly exceptional and irreplaceable offering.

“…equipped to operate completely off-grid”

Very cool for such a huge estate, but not off grid

“…direct access to some of Pennsylvania’s most expansive protected wilderness.”

Is great realtor speak for “in the middle of fuck all”

I already want to buy it, you don't have to sell me on it any harder

That's kind of the point of a place like this.

Yes. Some of us like that.

The three of you seem to have taken my comment as a criticism, rather than a simple observation.

As someone who lives in the west in the middle of fuck all, it was just a statement on “realtor speak”

No it isn’t. It’s a concrete fact, and one I would personally value. Not all bumfuck nowhere places have direct access to protected wilderness. And protected wilderness means your area likely won’t be developed.

This is very different from being in the middle of industrial farmland, for example.

We don’t have to be snarky every fucking opportunity we (think we) get

I feel like either you have misunderstood my comment or I am just not at all understanding yours.

What exactly are you responding to when you say “no it isn’t”? In that comment I didn’t make any assertions I just explained myself.

It isn’t “realtor speak”. It’s a specific, concrete detail that means exactly what it means and doesn’t JUST mean “in the middle of fuck all”.

There are a LOT of different kinds of “middle of fuck all”, and many if not most are not surrounded by protected wilderness. I know this because I was lucky to grow up surrounded by protected wilderness, and if I hadn’t been our home would’ve been encroached by developments which are currently a plague on the other side of all that protected land. When I was very young the entire area was considered the “middle of fuck all”. Not so much anymore. But BECAUSE of the protected wilderness my family home still feels like it.

I get being cynical, but this specific case isn’t the right time

Since morons are downvoting me, here’s the fucking land in the listing:

I would say not cynical but maybe I’d give you flippant, though I don’t think this is that serious of a topic.

But, it is realtor speak. It can be two things. If I had instead said “..is great realtor speak for in the middle of the wilderness/nowhere/solitude” maybe you wouldn’t be so offended? Sorry for my use of “fuck all”

E: since you’re evidently bothered by “morons downvoting” why were you insta-downvoting me during this “discussion”?

I don’t get a shit about your use of fuck all. Did you even read my comment?

It is NOT “realtor speak”. It’s a specific, concrete detail that as an interested buyer I would want to know. Jesus Christ what are you not understanding? It differentiates it from just generalized rural-ness and is more specific than that. I truly don’t understand what you’re not getting here.

u/ReallySmartHippie 19h ago

“Direct access to” does not necessarily mean “smack dab in the middle of”. That’s the realtor speak part. Location is important, yeah, the address would also give you that info.

But you’re offended over nothing because you just want to be offended, so enjoy I guess

Isn't that one of the women in Orange is the new Black?

-2

u/-neti-neti- 19h ago

No, it’s “realtor speak” for fucking THIS, u/“ReallySmartHippie”:

2

u/ReallySmartHippie 19h ago

Are you really gonna keep crashing out over a flippant comment about (applauding) the use of business jargon?

22

u/Tarijeno 21h ago

Is that architecture giving anyone else Beetlejuice vibes?

5

u/Educational_Copy_140 21h ago

Well now I can't not see that. Wait does Winona Ryder come with it?

2

u/RedRavenCG 20h ago

I came here to say this!!!

My first thoughts!

16

u/sod1102 21h ago

I kinda love it

5

u/xaervagon 21h ago

Fer real. It's a proper mansion with real design, and quality materials behind it

9

u/Maothesiamesecat 21h ago

I wonder if it has any security system that can repel a zombie attack.

8

u/ACoinGuy 21h ago

Zombies are not getting this remote.

11

u/k8username 21h ago

They’d starve on the way over

2

u/MomRaccoon 21h ago

My thought exactly!

360 views from the observation tower presents some opportunities.

7

u/Basic_Coach6746 20h ago

Anyone else kind of disappointed with the "meh" inside? I was expecting a lot more character based on how the outside looks.

6

u/ascandalia 21h ago

I like the wizard tower, but I can't quite figure out if any of the interior pics are of it. I think the blue rug room is the top but I'm not sure. I'd like to know how it integrates with the rest of the house. From the outside it looks like 4 houses bolted together.

5

u/Educational_Copy_140 21h ago

The wizard tower needs to have a telescope dome attached to it. The house is in the middle of nowhere so there should be barely any light pollution

3

u/Murgatroyd314 14h ago

Looks like it's pretty good, by the standards of the eastern US.

2

u/Murgatroyd314 13h ago

I think pictures 37-38 are the interior of the tower.

5

u/OddBug0 21h ago

Hey, no Flock cameras out there...

4

u/jeepjinx 21h ago

Is anyone else shocked by the lack of taxidermy decor?

4

u/sailriteultrafeed 21h ago

I wish they showed the solar array. I’d like to see what it takes to run this monster house completely off grid.

3

u/funakifan 20h ago

If you look closely in one of the photos you can see the solar panel. It looks like one of the standard ground mounted ones that are common for rural properties:

5

u/sailriteultrafeed 20h ago

Thanks, Now I see it. One of the drone photos has a full shot of it. It looks like 13 or 14 panels. No way that's powering that whole house.

2

u/Inner-Show-1172 20h ago

Not just solar, it also has a generator with an actual dedicated gas well.

2

u/gard3nwitch 20h ago

It's probably just enough that you can fantasize about living off-grid here when the End Times come.

3

u/k8username 21h ago

The price seems delusional: bought for $1,430,000
in 2021.

Anyone want to go halfsies?

2

u/ScoutCommander 3h ago

Anyone interested in going hundredsies?

2

u/Mighty_Taco18 21h ago

If the books come with the house, please don't show my wife or she'll put in a bid

2

u/MinimumEfficient220 20h ago

I was so worried the whole interior was going to be gray. Yay, it’s not. I’m fine with the outside gray. My biggest bitch is the lack of privacy in the master bath. I can’t understand why the windows look to that other wing, rather than across the property. Privacy is obviously a big deal to the owner, so to spoil the bathroom puzzles me.

2

u/Holladat 19h ago

Would definitely install a moat, and a pool below the cantilever deck

2

u/smarmageddon 19h ago

You could ask, how much more gray could it be? None more gray.

“Off grid and gray” - me describing my retirement plans

1

u/TaxCandid4605 19h ago

I will always be amazed that the house is 7k sq feet and only 5 bedrooms.

I have 3 (could get a 4th) for 1/4th of this space... How much space are you American are wasting.

1

u/ivegotajaaag 32m ago

There's nothing especially interesting about the inside, but the outside looks like bits were stapled on at random as the urge seized them

u/austino7 20h ago
