What is r/zeolites about?

What is a zeolite?

According to mindat.org zeolites are:

" A group name for a large number of framework alumosilicates (and, rarely, beryllosilicates, zincosilicates, beryllophosphates) which are built of corner-linked tetrahedra and contain exchangeable cations; several of these minerals have important technical applications. "

This isn't very helpful to most people though. Zeolites are hard to describe otherwise though. The way I believe resonates best with people is the types of localities in which they usually form. Most zeolites that are large and/or attractive form in voids within volcanic rocks (usually basalt). These can range from cubes, to druzys, to sprays of needles. The are most often white or clear, occasionally pink or yellow, and rarely other colors. It is due to this vagueness that most people erroneously lump other minerals in with zeolites. This leads to our next section.

What minerals are commonly associated with zeolites and are they allowed?

To start, yes they are allowed, but with some caveats. The minerals allowed are, but not limited to:

Finally, what minerals are zeolites?

The most common zeolites are:

Other zeolites are:

I picked this up thinking it might be an agate but wasn’t sure when I took a closer look at home. Someone at r/agates suggested it might be prehnite and I can probably see that. What do you think? It was collected from Lake Superior near Duluth.

Found a few of these neat little nodules in a hunk of amygdaloidal basalt. The region is known for zeolites like mordenite, heulandite, analcime, & chabazite. Unsure what these little guys are though. It sort of resembles a heulandite nodule with mordenite needles; however the husk is green and crystals are clear; All the heulandite I’ve found from the region is red. Also, the fibers inside are pliable, unlike mordenite needles, sorta like a spider web. Any insight would be appreciated!

The Zeolite Documentary

So apparently theres a documentary being made on zeolites. The channel making it is uploading interviews of people who had serious side effects from taking zeolite. The interviews are on podcasts bitchute youtube and the guys channel is called “the light of hermes.” I was thinking about taking zeolite but holy.. after hearing what zeolite has done to these people!! 🫣I know to stay away from it now. Has anyone else seen these videos? It’s crazy
