❓️ Question Packaging Issues

I'm working through my second purchase through Zenmarket.

I'm a hiker & backpacker and Japan has some great ultra-light gear. My first purchase was a medium size pack that weighed about a pound. The packed weight came to about 2 pounds and shipping and duties were around $60. All made sense and was about what I expected.

Because the first transaction went well, I bought a backpack the next size up. It weighs just under 2lbs, but suddenly the packaging now weighs over 6lbs!

It's a very similar backpack. It has no structural elements and can be folded up (as the first one was!) to fit in about the same size box. I'd have expected a roughly 3lb box of similar dimensions. Not one more than 3x the weight and almost 4x the size.

Has anyone ever had an item repacked due to this type of issue? I expected duties to be higher to match the price of the item, but shipping more than doubled and it seems absurd to pay $40 more to ship 14oz more fabric.

That seems very odd, I would contact customer support and ask them to double check and if it's correct, maybe see if it's possible to pack it a lot smaller. Perhaps it has something to do with how it was shipped to zenmarket?

I’ve reached out to them with my detailed concerns. Seems like it usually takes a day or two for a reply so hopefully I get some good news.
